well I'll be.... it works! mode 2 or mode 0, they both work EDIT: thank you -------------------

Excellent. It is confirmed then, the case with all the "D3DERR_OUTOFVIDEOMEMORY" messages in the logs are due to memory fragmentation, due to the large memory footprint of some display hardware, and the increased size of the game resources in Exodus. A change of memory mapping policy will fix this. But be aware that we may still have some issues, for some of you the win98 compatibility mode didnŠt change anything. Thanks for your help

I downloaded the patch on one system...and it was done by the time I got home at 6pm. Then I go to apply it and it says "Corrupt file" Kicked me out and I cannot access eve and don't know what to do about it.

Mines not a crash, i actually played fine this morning (in exodus), mined a bit, then server lost connection and i had to re-login. Only now everytime i select my char the screen goes black and nothing happens. Its not lag, i ve let this screen opened for over an hour without it ever entering the game. Tried many times, rebooting, compatibility. I dont know if ive corrupted one of the game files?

Edited by: Shadowbrother on 25/11/2004 04:31:38 Sallyanne,
If you right click on the eve icon you use to launch the game there is tab that gives you the option to change the compatiibility mode from windows xp to 95/98
I went with 95 and it fixed the problem for myself and curious about the pref.ini file/folder myself, wanna see if that workaround will fix a couple of other games i have bugs with/wont work in xp
hope this helps
*******edited for spelling since i too tired to think and am at work and had no sleep since ya'all brought the servers up at 1am melbourne time and i was havin too much fun dagnammit :-P******* Member of the Fix Alliance |

Edited by: Balsak on 25/11/2004 06:43:12 Sallyanne the prefs.ini is file that should be in the cache folder which is in your eve install folder. If you did a fresh install and haven't gotten passed the EULA screen the file might not have been created. You can sort of get around that by clicking around at the bottom of the eula screen and the using your task manager to kill eve.
If that doesnt work then create one and paste the following in save it and then try and start Eve:
buffersize=80 debug=0 decimal=. desktopHeight=768 desktopPrimary=0 desktopSetup=1 desktopWidth=1024 digit=, dynamicTextures=0 eulaagreed=694477693 eveampGain=0.572164948454 evevoiceGain=0.55 host=0 inputhost=localhost masterVolume=1.0 memoryMapping=0 messagePeriod=200 music=play network=0 networkAdvanced=0 newbie=0 password=:: port=26000 rebootReason= rebootReason= rebootReason= rebootReason= savepasswords=0 texelalign=0.0 uiampGain=0.4 username= username=

yahoo messenger (YIM) seems to be affecting the stability of the game. If u are finding that the game hangs on the splash screen and you are running YIM in the background, try turning it off.
Other bandwidth hungry progs may have a similar effect, such as steam and bt clients.
The game works fine for me, unless i have YIM running.
hope that helps.

*Sighs* Maybe some one can help me with this. I had to install the whole build...when applying the patch, I can log into eve but have no scroll wheel to accept the Terms & Condidtions. Well when I try to do the whole build...it gets stuck on resfacetextures.stuff and won't let me get any further. I have tried since the launch to do this patch and it just won't work for me. All I want to do is play Eve....
