Anyway, The view from outside Goonswarm is pretty weird. The perception is fairly toxic and there are threads upon threads of "MOFG THE GSF SUX BAN THEM" as well as "STFU PUBBIE SCUM HATE WILL GANK YOU LOLOLOLOL". I'm actually not interested in that. I'm actually interested in the reality. GSF members, could I ask you. What is it actually like in your alliance? The few Corps/alliances i have been part of have been a lot of fun, with some great camaraderie. A few good events etc. With the size of your alliance, i'm sure you guys have some awesome anecdotes of stuff you have done. I'm just interested. (If you don't like GSF, please dont rage here. Make a new thread please?)

I'm constantly broke because the whole isk-for-newbies thing is a lie. Being broke is also why I spend most of my time on my knees attempting to siphon miniscule amounts of isk out of rather non-miniscule, hose-shaped objects. But I get by, I guess...one day at a time.

But heck, I have a couple of spare minutes, I might as well write up a few lines about how life really is in Goonwaffe. So my name is Father Snuggles and I've been with the Waffe for about 8 months now, I believe. Upon joining, I learned that the corp and the alliance itself if in a fairly straightforward military hierarchy, but I guess that makes sense what with the huge numbers. Upon joining, assuming you're joining as a single member, not with a corporation, you are assigned to a regiment (like a squad in other corps), there are 4 "regiments" in total, "Alpha", "Sigma", "Rho" and "Omega". I was assigned to Alpha and was told I could advance to other regiments depending on my skill and k/d-ratio and while I believed this initially because of most of the more experienced guys I had heard of were in Rho, it turned out I was just being trolled because there is no real measure of skill or k/d in goonswarm, as is public knowledge. (alas, I didn't have this figured out in the beginning) Each regiment is divided into 3-4 battalion-sized units that are divided by timezone to make the organization easier and allow for a better projection of activity. US-battalion, Euro-battalion, Ociania-battalion and so forth. So each regiment has a european, american, etc. unit. Living in germany, I ended up in Euro-battalion and, as battalions get to choose their own names for a more personalized feel of the whole goonswarm-experience, ours is called "European Goonion". Battalion commanders are chosen by competence as well as social skills and appointed by the council of goonswarm, which, in turn, is headed by the chairman of the council, The Mittani. (This is also where the chinese-themed propaganda poster "Chairman lmao" came from, by the way) The battalion commander of European Goonion (which, we just refer to as "The Unit" ourselves) is a guy called Dominionix who is this massive irish-sounding dude with a deep baritone voice and he works as a complaint consultant for a rather large maritime research corporation, so he knows what he's talking about. He is pretty much constantly angry and not a very friendly guy over comms, but as long as you stay out of his line of fire (and most of us do), you're fine. Then there's Tomytronic, Domi's top-lieutenant and enforcer. He pretty much is in charge of day-to-day operations and keeps everyone toeing the party line. He's also the one in charge of battalion reimbursement so you don't want to **** this guy off, which, unfortunately, I managed to do within the first weeks of being in the unit. I mentioned my affectionate love for a TV show called "The Wire" and he just completely trashed it, saying it's vastly inferior to shows like "Entourage" and "Nip/tuck". I haven't seen either of those, so I'll probably try to watch them to get back onto his good side, but being yelled at over a personal preference by one of the most important guys was pretty hurtful. Tomy is also in charge of all the battalion-newsletters (we get one for each month) and sends them out punctually on the first of the month, except in cases where the 1st is on a sunday of national holiday, in which we get our update a day early. Our reimbursement program, by the way, is one of the most renowned ones in goonswarm. Each battalion has their own approved fittings for ships and gets a certain allowance in tech-money from the council to pay out to its members. This guarantees that each battalion has an overview of what their members can and should (!) fly. Some battalions dish out waay to much money for Machariels and such which is a complete waste if you ask me. We get a reimbursement bonus if we specifically train for ships that are asked for. Currently I'm training for the Hyena, which is going to be used in a new battalion-doctrine (because of the new target painter being introduced) and that'll almost net me 5 million isk in profit per (!) lost hull. Every battalion is overseen by a regimental inspection officer that is appointed by the council to make sure everyone runs their ship nicely and not in a fashion that wouldn't really work with the alliance's direction. Our oversight officer is a chick called Ivana Twinkle. I think she's croatian or something, but I can't really place the accent. She's pretty hot too since she posted a couple of pictures of her job as a waitress in a beach club. (and you just know they only choose the hottest croatian chicks for that job ;) ) She's kinda the good soul of the unit that everyone goes to when they got yelled at by Domi. She built me back up morally when Tomy completely crushed me in my first week and even gave me a free T2 fit hurricane (that I couldn't fly back then, but I had something to live and train for) Then there's deadtear, who I think is from finland. He's pretty much a veteran having been in the game for a long time, but oddly never got into a position of responsibility. I'm not entirely sure why, but I think it's because he's happy at his level flying with regular line members. I can't really see him in any role of leadership of capital piloting. Deadtear is the kind of reasonable, friendly dude that would step into a verbal conflict and mediate with arguments of reason to calm the waves. I'm pretty sure European Goonion would end up hacking itself to pieces over petty bickering if it weren't for him. Deadtear and Tomy are pretty good friends, which is weird, because Deadtear took me under his wing immediately while I think Tomy absolutely despises me.

Basically, if you need fitting advice or pointers on how to fly any specific ship in the game, you go to him. Occasionally, he'll even take you out himself for a couple of flying lessons. After I was capable of flying a hound, he volunteered to bridge me around in his deadspace-fitted Sin. He's also the guy that get's to approve hulls for your reimbursement profile. I'm currently approved for all minmatar T1 frigs, assault ships, interceptors, the hound and the hurricane. I'm currently working toward being approved for the Maelstrom, which is one of the most important ships in our Alphafleet doctrine. Then there are a couple of guys that run the counter-intelligence team for our battalion, mephistophelesse, Emmerik and Rikard Stark. Ironically, they're all german and, with the battalion being led by a pretty much all-anglosaxon cabal, that was the last thing I expected to see. They're the guys that you don't want to joke around about intel, capital ship movements, etc. because you'll be purged pretty quickly and blacklisted from the entire CFC. Also, every battalion has their own posting-commissar. I'm not sure if this is public knowledge, but Goonswarm is pretty serious about posting. There are no internet colloquialisms, memes, or image macros allowed and your posting is kept under pretty close scrutiny by one of these guys. Ours is a guy called Lord Xander, who was chosen for his exceptional posting over several years. You don't get appointed into a position like that for nothing. While he's a relatively nice dude, he's what he calls GÇPstraight-edgeGÇ£, which I've never heard, but it's basically abstaining from alcohol and drugs and stuff like that, so it's pretty hard to be around him sometimes since he get's pretty preachy and condescending towards people that even talk about beer or weed. Sjinta is, i think, the rl-wife of Mister Vee, but I've never heard her over comms, so I'm not sure if I'm being trolled here. She runs an alliance-wide lottery where you have to submit My-Little-Pony-related fanfiction (it's a bit of a Goonswarm in-joke, I don't think they're serious about it) so she's one of the more well-known people in Goonswarm. She also runs the regiment's capital construction program. (we only have one per regiment, because one per battalion would be too complicated in terms of supercap construction, I hear) Ironically, she hates everything about actually flying supercaps, so while you'd see the fruits of her work crapping out titans fairly quickly, you'd never actually see her go near one despite being talked into it by Vee. Mister Vee is easily the second-best FC in Goonswarm and while his friends get to call him Vee, line members have to adress him with his full title until they're experienced or important enough in the alliance. I've been on quite a few fleet ops led by him, but I don't really appreciate his style of leadership. Everything needs to be hopped-to immediately and there's a generally militaristic atmosphere on comms once he logs in. You have to use words like GÇPaffirmativeGÇ£, GÇPnegativeGÇ£, GÇPclicksGÇ£ instead of kilometers, GÇPten fourGÇ£ and so on. I'm not really opposed to concepts that promote fleet discipline, but the way Mister Vee enforces it is maybe a little too much. He constantly gets angry over people breaching comm silence and then goes on minute-long rants in his weird russian accent. Someone once said he's the rl-brother of Shaddoo, but that makes no sense whatsoever and I know for a fact that Shaddoo is from Portugal. Isphirel is our battalion treasurer, which is funny because in yiddish his name literally translates into GÇPhe who gets drunk while naked at a cash registerGÇ£, but hey, that's goonswarm for you. He works all the spreadsheets and makes sure Tomy doesn't pay out too much cash or pays out to the wrong people that may not be approved for certain shiptypes. That's pretty much my five cents, if there's anything you'd like to know outside of this, feel free to drop me a line. Right now I have to get back to my hangar because Mister Vee sent out another jabber broadcast in cyrillics that we have to put into google translate first. Something about Delve or so, I don't know. Russians...

Russians... Thanks a lot. It actually was a very interesting read. I can see why GSF has a lot of really committed members. I think we demonise too much so its a refreshing change to get knowledge of the nitty gritty and to realise that the guys/gals in GSF are just the same as the rest of us, trying to have fun. Thanks for taking the time to give a rundown, and some anecdotes.

For example: We have a jabber channel called gs_isk. 200-300 Dudes sit in this channel discussing general economic stuff about EVE. How to make ISK, how to trade, how to market manipulate, how to speculate, picks to invest in etc. Now, other people might have similar areas to hang out in, and there are even in-game channels to facilitate this. However, it functions quite differently when you are all in the same allied alliances and have common goals. The end result is something that has the power to move any market in EVE. (Note, this doesn't always work out well for us) It's one thing to do something in EVE well, it's quite another to do it well with 200 other dudes able to do it well and support you also.

Now that piques interest. The economics of the game is a very cool part of the experience, and having like minded people...awesome.

When I first started playing, I was working overnights as a baker, so I joined up with the EU Alpha squad like Father Snuggles, which wasn't a great fit. Nice enough people, but just not for me. Luckily, around the same time I moved over to a daylight job, so I joined the Alpha US battalion, which everybody calls Theta. Theta being short for the groups full name, Delta Theta Delta. The theme, if you haven't figured out, is like a fraternity, which really fits the battalion's mindset pretty well. To put it frankly, it's a space frat house. There's the same fairly strict hierarchy you'd find in the militaristic European Goonion, but a decidedly different bent to it all. New members are called, unsurprisingly enough, pledges. I had been playing for a month at the time of a switch, enough that I wasn't really a newbie, but that didn't matter. When I joined up, I was automatically a pledge. It's the same for all new members, whether they started playing last week, or back in 2003. You're a pledge until you prove yourself and become a brother. There's a bit of light hazing that goes on, nothing real serious. Pledges are expected to do some boring, menial tasks for the brothers, usually stuff like salvaging their wrecks for a ratter, or hauling in an industrial for one of the Sigma mining ops (Sigma being the 'carebear' battalion of goonswarm). Most of the stuff isn't so bad, just a little dull, and usually the brothers will throw some pretty good isk your way. Still, you're looked down on, and it's not really fun to be a pledge. So, obviously, you want to become a brother. Unfortunately, the only way to become a brother is by running the gauntlet. The gauntlet is basically this - one of the brothers tells everyone he's running a 'slosh op', which basically means you've got a blind stinking drunk and/or high right before. Next, you get on mumble and they yell out what sort of fleet you're flying, and give you a half dozen ships that'll be coming along. Then you've got 5 minutes to grab that ship, fit it, and get to the meet up point. That doesn't sound too hard, but you're wasted and new, it can be VERY easy to forget important things like "Ammo". Or "Weapons." I sort of cheated on this, because Khurem (one of our veteran FCs, although he mostly does JUST slosh ops now) called for blackbirds, and I had one on hand. Anyway, now this drunk and confused group of pledges get orders barked at them to go somewhere, then go somewhere else, and then kill something. Usually this means flying deep into enemy territory (IRC being a favorite) and getting into a fight. If you get on the killmail for whatever you and other pledges ganked, you're a brother... if you also manage to make it back alive. If you DO get killed (like I did), you have to fly back out, by yourself, and bring back your corpse (which I did). Then you're a brother and allowed to boss around the other pledges. Delta Theta Delta kind of has a bad reputation in Goonswarm, for three reasons mostly. First, we're 'bad' posters by Goon standards - lots of memes, lots of **, lots of goatse. Second, sometimes the hazing gets out of hand. Rho is known for being really nice to their newbies, so they REALLY hate on us for being so damn mean to the pledges. Plus, sometimes the pledges do stupid and/or dangerous things on brother orders - Kyle Myr, a fellow pledge, once bumped a titan out of the POS because Alikchi ordered him to. Third, we pick on Sigma a lot - like I mentioned before, Sigma is very carebear orientated, so we like to make fun of them. But they also make a lot of isk for Goonswarm, so they have lots of friends. Blawrf, for example, is from Sigma, and from what I hear he's already a billionaire several times over. Basically if you don't like bros, you probably won't like Delta Theta Delta very much. The presidents (yeah, there's two, dunno why) of Theta is Thecrate and Spookydonut. Thecrate is like the Godfather of Theta - if you want something done, she knows people who know people. She's also trans, which sometimes we make fun of, but not in a serious way (if you ever see the stations named Thecrate Sits To Pee, well, now you know why.) But basically a great person to have at your back. Spookydonut is, well... something else. He's the returned character of somebody who was in Goonswarm back it first started, but for some mysterious reason left. He's came back about a year ago, and is in charge of Theta, but nobody is allowed to know who he is, and the brothers who DO know aren't tell. I've heard all sorts of theories on it, from him being Remedial, to him being Karttoon. But basically he's one scary ********, and handles all sorts of logistical . Fly through a jump bridge with a fully loaded freighter, and not warn him first? Spookydonut will have you 'accidentally' set to red and have your freighter blown up. Basically, whoever that mysterious dude is, don't ** him off. A couple other important dude is Ender Capital G, who is in charge of 'training' the pledges, which basically means hazing them as mercilessly as he possibly can. You can't run the gauntlet without his say so, though, so if he tells you to go mine for an hour in an osprey, well, better get to mining. Dude loves to torture pledges with mining challenges, mostly because he hates miners and wants to make everyone else hate mining as much as he does. There's a bunch of other dudes, but I'm getting close to the word limit. Basically life in Delta Theta Delta is getting bossed around by older members, getting drunk and murdering a random stranger, and then getting drunk and getting to boss around younger members, all while making fun of Sigma. Welcome to Goonswarm, I guess.

I don't actually know why I was put in Sigma but it sounds like I got a much better position than Snuggles. Sigma is very relaxed and everyone here is very helpful. Sigma must not be as large Alpha because we really only have a few Euros and mostly Americans (that means Canadians too). Our Supreme Leader is rss_pitts, who is never without his Sirhan Blixt. He doesn't talk to me very much, but from what I can tell he's a good guy. After Blixt comes Aryndel Vyst, DaiTengu, and Mori Kaal, all of which generally seem to be good guys. I think I make Vyst mad every once in a while, but he seems very forgiving as long as I don't make the same mistake twice. Vyst seems like the angry sergeant from the movies that only acts mad to keep you in line, but actually wants you to do great things. Enough about the leaders, you want to know about the daily grind, right? Well on most days the older members actually ask me what I want to do! It's a really odd reverse psychology thing, I think. Lately I've been on a mining kick with RedlegSA, who is the Sigma Director of the Mining Laser. He's in charge of everything mining. He even directly oversees refining, to ensure that the Sigma refining squad is doing their job properly. Every once in a while I want to do some pvping. When I do I'm usually told to talk to Webb Mordock, but everyone calls him the Scourge of Delve. I was told he earned that nickname the hard way. I also am directed to M3rB3ast, the Drake King, I'm not entirely sure how he got that nickname. There are also a lot of other guys that form the Sigma Hit Squad. Cpt_Johnny is their leader and I hear that he's ruthless. One of the things I forgot to mention, that I happen to think is really cool, Sigma is the only regiment with its own mascot! Our mascot is the Goat. I think the other regiments are jealous of our mascot. Sigma is also the only regiment that openly welcomes homosexual members, and this occasionally brings us some ridicule from other squads, but we're okay with that. Even though I'm a newer member of Sigma, I'm encouraged to help out other new members. There have been a few that have joined after me that are showing some real promise. Colon V and Ray Blast are full of potential. I see them going places in Sigma and maybe even being moved up into GoonSwarm Federation leadership. Most importantly though, I wouldn't even be in GSF if it weren't for some of the greatest regiment-mates like fol2ty8, Tinal, and :goatdrugs:. Basically all of Sigma really. We really come together to help each other out. It's good to know that not all of Eve hates us goons!

WIdot was once an alliance allied with GSF but we merged with GSF because apparently they really liked how often we show up for fleets and how many expensive capital internetspaceships we had or something like that i'm sure when we start posting in a thread/enter a local with alot of chat going on we have a tendency to post THIS IS NOW A WIDOT LOCAL/THREAD/NOUN and we have a slightly different sense of humour from Goonwaffe and the SA gang. personally i have a sense of humour more akin to something between 4chan/reddit but then again so does about half of TEST/GSF. the srsbns pilots are usually bittervet supercap/cap pilots or high sp subcap pilots annoyed that theyre too poor to afford a carrier to move their ships from deployment to deployment (lol poor people lol lol) WIdot is mostly comprised of much more experienced pilots and we dont allow newbees to join very often [read: never] since most of us are terrible at helping newbees thanks to being impatient and bitter and we wished that we were as clever and witty as our alliance mates. we do help new pilots to the corp become aquainted with GSF and WIdot policies/forums/authsites and answer questions as much as we can (though if you start sperging about jabber being confusing to set up i swear to god i will kill you myself) uhhh thats about all i can think of atm though im sure other WIdot'ers like Ivan Ward can add to this

I've been in WIDOT for a minute now, and it's home. I get to bittervet rant about Supers and how my lowly dread isn't used for crap, I can FC when and what I want to unless a STRATOP comes along. Like Tusen said, WIDOT has it's own identity and subculture that is similar to our fellow Goons in many ways, it's one of the reasons WIDOT the alliance was so closely allied to the Goons. The leadership is mellow and likes to help each other out. Hell, we even offer to help each other out in real-life situations when bad stuff happens, like someone losing power and needing to buy a generator because of storms in the midwest. We have our internal strife and clashing, but that's what happens when you plant a ton of hyperactive ADHD Alpha males into one room, fights occur. Getting anything done has always been easy in both the old alliance and now the corp, and there's plenty of advice/information if you want to try some new venture in EVE for yourself. Also, the redhead posts are amazing, as are Arancia's tattooed chick links. /drool. I'll be in my bunk.

Knowing this, my sole reason for disliking goonies are really the blobwar they provide. Ofcourse you/they can't jsut deny a few 500 players to fight for good fights but you bring what you got to the table. I have nothing, but been watching you do this to alliance after alliance, but never been involved directly myself. Until now, and I have to say, it kinda makes me sad to be on a fullscale war like this, because most of hte people I used to hunt while solo roaming is now blue or blobbed up against me. My favourite way of PVP in eve is currently gone unless I would chose to part ways with my corp and alliance. (Also adding a few stupid carrier losses doesn't help moral for my part :P) I'm sure the community is awesome in goons just like any alliance, it's just for the "outsiders" having a xxx pound round comming at you, you can't do **** to it but only hate on it's simple existance, "Untouchableness" from the outside. (Making new words am I?) I love PVP in any form, but as teh addict I am, I need my dose of certain fun to be happy, and while carriers are fun to lose, I do enjoy blowing peeps up myself too :D Anyhow, don't touch my Blawrfy or I'd have to call your parents and force you to stop!
