Edited by: Krikx on 02/02/2010 18:15:17 You can do what I did. I am a Gallente pilot with heavy drone skills and great armor tanking skills.
Steps: 1) Spent 1 week moving into WH hub. Getting ships in and getting all setup. 2) Joined corp member in a class 2 or 3(don't remember exactly) with my armor tanked Myrm. Corpmate had Drake. 3) Warped out several times because I couldn't take the dmg. His drake held up w/o problem. 4) Spent more time recalling drones then fighting. 5) Left with my head held low. 6) Spent a few days getting all my ships out of WH space. 7) Started training for t2 sentries and passive shield tank Myrm. 8) Quit carring about WH and moved to 0.0
Lessons learned. Gallente are less then ok for WH space. T2 Sentires are spectactular for PvE. My Ishtar now has a great passive setup as well. Never looked back I like my new home and still love my drone boats.
Edit: I heard a rumor that EW draws a lot of hate from sleepers so there are reports of people dropping a jammer on their drone boat just to make the sleepers mad and keep agro off the drones. May work with Target painters as well. I never verified, I just jumped ship.

Ishtar doesn't seem that great for sleepers.
I can get about a 650dps passive tank with all lvl 5's. You still run into a drone problem. Only difference now with the ishtar you don't have room for the Omni's in the mid slot for extra tracking like you do in a Domi. I'm not sure how well the Garde 2's will hit sleepers without the tracking. Then your left with Heavy 2's again, which once webbed are never going to make it back to you in time before they pop. You don't have an AB because of the passive fit to orbit with the drones.
The 650dps tank might be enough for 3's with the reduced sig radius and orbiting the drones to increase the tracking penalties. You're much smaller and faster then a drake then....but sleepers like to web a lot.
Plus the T2 hull is costly to replace if you aren't paying attention well enough to scan.
Over all I ssay if you want to solo WH's train for Drake. If you want to make crazy amount of isk in WH, train for RR Domi and get a good corp that does 5 and 6's.

Originally by: aetherguy881 People are too afraid of losing their drones. Yes they shoot at them, but this isn't normal mission running. It may be a hassle to pull your drones in more than once, but they provide plenty of extra DPS that makes the sites much more do-able.
Ever thought of flying an ishtar in there?
Oh and it's not about being afraid to lose them. If you are flying a drone boat they are your only or primary DPS. They aren't just extra DPS that make it go faster. With travel time you are actually able to do DPS maybe half the time pulling them in constantly. That is why so many drone users use Sentrys for sleepers, the DPS is better then and they can be pulled bakc in quickly. Losing a couple of drones not only cost you money but depending on what your drone bay looks like it could mean a lot less DPS too.
I recently got disconnected in a anomaly and by the time I logged back in I had 3 less Garde 2s because they got popped. Because of my setup I didn't have replacements for the Garde's so that cut my DPS by almost 300. So I had to go back to station to replace them. No granted it was my choice to fit that way but it's an example of the drones being more then just extra DPS. thats the equiviant of a drake losing 4 of it's launchers.
And do not take this as a drone user whine post. I don't think sleepers or drones need changed one bit. I love my drones for other aspects of the game and would rather be gallentte for many things instead of Caldari. I just know sleepers aren't something my ships shine at. No big deal, just learn to adapt. |
