So i've been flying in an interceptor a bit with small gatecamps, but the problem is when a ship with a cloak jumps. I just horribly suck at it, and while the corp members don't really have a problem with it since i'm new, i do want to get better at this asap :)
So is the following correct to do?
=> Fly around the gate at normal interceptor speed => Zoom out and look at gate from the top => ship jumps to your side of the gate => ship decloaks for a second => hold ctrl to block overview a bit => double click on ship and just go full speed => ship go into cloak => activate full speed and MWD in the direction i was aligned when clicking on it => hope i decloak the ship
Is this the correct way or am i doing something wrong? For example, better to stay still at gate and only activate speed when i spot him? Any other tips?

Edited by: Marko Riva on 01/02/2010 13:32:50 sit roughly at the centre of the gate but far enough from it so you won't get blocked by it Have MWD on before he jumps through remove everything from overview that isn't a a non-friendly ship/pod so your overview should be empty, hold control and keep clicking on the empty space on the overview when he uncloaks you'll try to target and approach purely due to your maniacal clicking, as he cloaks you need to hit your "max speed" triangle next to your speed dial. realise in which direction he'll probably be aligned to (could have figured that out beforehand by looking at his possible exit gate/station, and adjust a bit for his movement
Bingo
p.s. Make SURE your intie has enough targeting range, most have issues with that, especially if you realise that an over heated point on intie is 36km

Depends on type of cloaker. MWD fitted Sub Cruiser Cloaky Ship ... forget about it. You need at least a very fast Interdictor to get a chance. If the cloaker is experienced, he will not align to a point wich direct leads to planet/moon/Stargate or wich is direct in your approaching path. Remember not only you can zoom out. The cloaker will do it too .... I do this practice even with my blockade runner. And they never catch me during jump in. Remember there are at least 3 Dimension in Space LOL

both of the above posts are correct. Marko has the tactics down, but even when everything is in your favor, the cloaky still has a very good chance of escaping.
that said, make sure there's a damn bubble on the gate; without one it'll be even harder to catch anything with a decent align speed.

These are all nice ideas and methods, however for the smarter players you will notice a button near where your ships cargo button is, which gives you a tactical overveiw, you can use this to find someone on a gate when the hit cloak. - Emperor

It's so easy for a cloaky to evading the decloaking tactics that even a cloaked Hulk can have a very good chance of avoiding detection if the right moves are utilized. I know, I did that myself against a Drake and Manticore in 0.0 when they tried to decloak my ship. I evaded them long enough to call for backup and wipe them out (they were trespassing on our turf).

I always move my screen so the cloaker is in the middle of my screen and then I try to figure out 1) if he's pulsing MWD to get out of a bubble and 2) which direction he's going. Then I double click ahead of him to get the decloak. |

Slight addition to the tips listed: I found it helps to have a deones orbiting you while you MWD to the location. Gives a little better chance.

To be honest mate there is not a lot u can do- it's more a question of luck.
Here are some things u can do:
1) If your in null sec bubble the hell out the gate using hics and dics.
2) If u have drones, keep them put. When someone apprears but cloaks send the drones to assist someone in a straight line with u at 1 end, your target in the middle and your mate at the other.
3) Whether your stationary ormoving burn at best speed in the direction of your target (this means zooming out and moving your ship on a course straight in line with the cloakers location.
4) Generally try and 'swarm' on the target location.
-All this is in an attempt to hold the target before it can warp of and then try and bump the cloak off. As I say, u will have to be lucky and very fast!
5) Where the oppertunity arrises bombs can be used, but with obvious draw backs.

Very important and mentioned above (but it can pass overlooked) is NOT to use the overview to lock and do NOT have anything up but enemies (filter everything else out). It's too slow / laggable and you will generally not lock anything like a frigate or smaller by using it. It's hard enough by using the main view already.
A corpie of mine could even lock interceptors, but he had the reflexes for that and also a mega-connection with zero.zero lag.
The typical mistakes:
- use the lolverview - not hide brackets and the other slowing down stuff - web before scram - fly straight to the guy
Finally, there are more tricks everyone do that are grey area, tricks that many do and are bannable but usually not reported, and others that are circumventing the bannable ones and never reported. - Auditing and consulting

I agree that your chances of bumping the cloak works best with drones. But let's not forget that you always have comfort in numbers. The more people you have in fleet at the gate, the bigger the likelihood of successfully bumping the cloak off.
Here's a better idea:
Have at least six frigates that can move fast and arrange them in a 3-dimensional plus-sign formation on the gate. Don't forget that a jumped ship via stargate generally appears at about 20-35km out from the gate. So adjust the formation accordingly.
one on top one below two on the sides one in front one in back
Have another ship carry a fleet of drones (Warrior II for best speed) so that when a ship does jump through and cloaks, send the drones to cover the frigate that was closest to the cloaked ship's location. At least one of the other frigates should agree to converge with the other in case the first attempt misses.
Also, have an interdictor bubble the gate while having a cloaked scout on the other side of the gate to give warning.
Don't let all of the frigates break formation at once in case another cloaky appears.
