If a pack of items is draged into a hangar, the item is displayed at the bottom of the list. If you want it stacked with items already in the hangar, you should rightclick and select "Stack all"..
There should be a feature that allows the hangar to be set to "automatic stacking".. this can be a default setting.
This makes it easier to recognise items as they are always stacked but also improves the database as most people have unstacked packaged items in there hangars...
For special purposes the hangar can be set to disable automatic stacking. Mostly for logistic purposes..
There could also be another option "Stack This Item Only", to aid the logistics departement.

Very nice idea, but dont hope implementing it, because peaople here are for stange reason agains any (incuding resonable) automatization.

So what happens when you need to unstack something using the Shift + drag method to separate one or more from the stack, do you have first unset the auto stack feature on the hangar?
Stack all seems easy enough to me, why complicate matters when you want to reverse the process.

czert: it is not that we dont want to make things easier in eve. but auto stacking would make it worse for many people.
a few examples:
- splitting fuel stacks in your fuel bay to avoid going into a 2nd siege/triage cycle
- preparing stacks to hand out to pilots for refueling/refilling ammo.
and that all to safe the op 2 mouse clicks (right click -> stack all)
so what do you think will annoy more people in the long run?

hahahaha. I have bad news for you. Currently in eve is lot of players like me, and some of them leave eve, because they find eve to rokie-unfrirndly.
Did you notite that majority of my proposals will make game easier ONLY to new players, with practicaly no impact on older players ?

I dont see any problem, as OP writed it can be turned on/off - so no issues with manual spliting (and for this can be oprtion too to set manual ignore manual spliting), and if combined with auto stacing in ship cargo space - it will save lot of mouseclicks, especialy if looting :).
And adding automatick repack all items (of course - on/off) (and automacitacly repair them if needed up to set price) - will be nice automatization too,
