After High School, I called up ITT also. For me however, living in Houston, I had 2 schools to choose from, longest drive was maybe 45min.
I went there cause I was interested in game design...anything having to do with creating a game, I was all for it, and of course, they were too. Seemed that they had "all" the answers. Anything I wanted to learn, they could provide....Pffft!!
They took me on a tour of their school, which wasnt a school at all, it was a freakin office building that they had turned the 1st floor into a school. It looked like crap and I wasnt impressed at all.
The lady who took me on the tour was very intimidating and wore smelly perfume, you know, one of those types who must spend hours getting ready for work piling on the makeup and stuff.
At the end of the tour, she took me back to her office and wanted to show me some videos of the school too. I played along and agreed to watch them. I could NOT believe the BS I was watching and moreover, I couldnt believe they actually made it. It was like a longggggg commercial. Everyone that was in the video all had smiles and they made it out to be some sort of big family. To me, it was completely obvious the people in the videos were actors, BAD ONES.
I couldnt take it any longer, it was such horsepoo, I turned the video off, went back to her office and said I didnt want to watch anymore. I want to know, right now, what is it going to cost me for a 2 year degree.
She couldnt even answer that simple question without going thru a bunch of more horsepoo....ohhh, you can get grants, loans and not have to worry about paying a dime till after I graduate, yadda yadda. I couldnt get a straight answer from her at all until I sat down and "looked" over some papers she shoved in front of me along with a pen. I didnt even try to touch the pen at all, yet she kept saying, just sign there and we can see about getting you some grants so the tuition isnt as much.....
Again, I finally told her I was running out of time, whats the cost. I could tell she was getting upset that I wasnt some sort of robot (eh hmmm, military) and did what I was told....Yes, I actually have a brain and use it, thank you very much.
After about 2 hours of being there, FINALLY I get a price quote of $35k...
After picking my jaw up off the floor and subtly laughing, I stood up and said, no thanks, theres no way im paying 35k for this school. She tried and tried and tried to get me to sit back down and fill out the paperwork, showing me a piece of paper of past graduates who went on making over 100k a year. Again, I wasnt born yesterday lady (is what I was thinking), I can go home and type up some names on paper too, this proves nothing to me.
Still trying to be as polite as I could, I said I wasnt interested anymore and reached out my hand to shake hers and SHE WOULDNT SHAKE IT. I am not kidding. Its like, when she finally realized she wasnt going to get me to sign anything, I was wasting her time and she practically turned her nose up at me.
All of that showed to me that ITT was simply another business, nothing more. Once it was obvious I wasnt going to be their customer, all the "niceness" went out the window which proved to me, right then and there, that she obviously would get some sort of kickback (bonus) if she got me to sign the dotted line.
I sure am glad I never went into debt for that. That would have been a 35k mistake.
Since then, I have run into a few other people who actually did go there and they all say the same damn thing. IT WASNT WORTH IT!! And one guy who is friends with my buddy went there for the whole 2 years, graduated and guess what....He is currently working at Dominos trying to pay off his 35k mistake. He said he has applied at many many places and they all turn him down. He did say however that he did get a job right out of that school using their job placement counseler but that job paid him slightly better than minimum wage.
ITT = waste of time and money. A 10th of all I earn I keep for myself. |
