I have been thinking that it would be great to add a few more T1 frigs and Cruisers to each race? T2 and even T3 is great and have been welsome in the various expansions for the game but I also think that it is time to add more T1 ships.
With existing T1 frigs and cruisers there setups have been done to death. I would love maybe 2 new frigs, 2 new cruisers and 2 new battlecruisers to be added to that game. This would really shake up the game and make it even more attractive to new players.
What you guys think?

Take it one step further............make the new T1 ships only able to be flown by the characters native race. No cross training possibilities. That would be something that would make things stand out a bit.........as it is now, its all really just a homogeonous blob, anyone can fly anything.
Make racial choice mean something other than the stats on a birth certificate.

New ships are only available though available use and roles, trying to add new ships without these roles has not been a good idea, which is why every ship I have designed has been fullfilling little niches that been overlooked.
Currently Frigates can fufill every current subcaptiol role aside from gang booster, cosmos platform (no ship as roled into this, however its possible every ship can do this) and logistics.
Cruisers have no interceptor role, however its mostly part of the 'assault' platform. They to also do not have a gang booster or a cosmos platform, the logistics is partially covered.
Cruisers with a gang role isnt nessecary thats overstepping into battlecruiser boundries. Which is that classes niche and doesnt need to be stepped on remotely close sized ships.
Frigates however can benifit from all three being added however the chances are well see them interated as tech 2 ships not tech 1s as your asking.
So in order for us to get any new tech 1s well have to invent new combat systems and new roles to make this involves making new mechanics overall which is MASSIVE work more work than adding new ship models. Pre-order your Sisters of ≡v≡ Exploration ship today, Updated 27JAN10

I kind of agree with this idea. I like that EVE is very flexible and that you're not locked into a certain thing when you make your character, but it would be nice if race meant something besides your picture. I'd rather see a small bonus to flying your own race's ships--just enough to encourage it instead of encouraging cherry-picking various ships from the four main factions.
As for the main topic, I agree with this also. I think more ships would definitely be a good thing. I'd also like to see more ships not designed by the four main factions, like ships designed by various corporations. Things like science vessels, exploration ships, dedicated salvage barges, etc, would be nice. Look at ORE ships for an example. I don't see why virtually all ships are designed by one of the four main governments or their affiliated corporations rather than independent corporations just designing their own ships to suit various needs.

Limiting anything to race is silly, as is a percentage boost to 'racial' cruiser types, however small it is. Flexibility and freedom good, limiting or defining characters based on what was/will be an arbitrary charcreation choice bad

This same discussion comes up in every MMO at some point...should race matter. Those that want their 2oz fairy paladin to tank for a group. Those that want special bonuses for flying ships designed by their own races. Basically people who want there to be an impact of choice...and those that argue 'balance' issues and cry when their Caldari pilot doesn't get the 10% energy turret bonus in his Executioner.
Balance = blandness. Blandness = mass appeal Mass appeal = $$$
"Anyone can do anything." Has there ever been a bigger break from reality than that statement? Just because it's a sandbox doesn't mean everything has to be the same.
Genuine pilot diversity would be a welcome change...though I will say that it will NEVER happen...just as it's never happened in every other game.

It's not just balance issues; it's forcing a new player (or old players retroactively) to make an important character decision literally right as they're starting the game and have no idea what's going on. It's obviously common, but it seriously needs to DIAF. It's the equivalent of having to choose what type of car you're going to drive for the rest of your life at age 4
Quote: Balance = blandness. Blandness = mass appeal Mass appeal = $$$
Imbalance is bland, it leads to FotMs and carbon copy ship fits/character builds. Balance promotes characters choosing what they learn to prefer, rather than what's "best".
Quote: "Anyone can do anything." Has there ever been a bigger break from reality than that statement? Just because it's a sandbox doesn't mean everything has to be the same.
Everything's not the same. Pick a random group of PvP pilots and their skills and character focus will be plenty varied; their choice of ships are different, character skills are varied, as well as skillpoint levels and specializations. You can do anything you'd like eventually, but

luckily you can train into other ships in eve.
every race having the same number of ships in every class is just -_-; boring!
amarr needs a torp bs, gallente could use a bc worth a damn, Minmatar should have quite a bit of stolen amarr tech, think they would have a webbing tracking disrupting recon or something. laser drone boat maybe (yea okay I just want a laser drone boat, I talked about it before)?

What about a secondary racial ewar cruiser? The bonuses would need to be smaller than those of the recon counterparts, but having the bonuses only apply to the race that designed it would make things more interesting. Secondary ewar seems far more popular all round anyway so it shouldn't upset many people.
So the minnies could get a cruiser with a web range bonus. Amarr would get a like a rudementary nos/neut ship. Gallente would get a ship with slight disruptor/scram range bonus. (I can see this being used WAAAAY more than any damp ship actually fitting damps). Caldari can get... oh... errm... extra ECM range as opposed to ECM strength of the blackbird? :S Not sure.
Another thought is "ships of the line" with bonuses only applying when the ship is in a gang (making the ships fleet only ships rather than solo ships)? What about logistic frigates?
Just throwing some ideas about. -------------------------------------------------

From a backstory standpoint, the thing I never understood is why faction ships were usable by the other faction. if I am in the Caldari militia,I think my higher-ups would frown on using a navy domi. freedom of choice is good and all that, but I would like the fact that I chose Caldari to mean something besides the fact I look like a zombie. __________________________

I really agree with this! There should be a lot of t1 frigates and cruisers, even if some are similar to each other. There really aren't that many ships in this and game and some new t1 ships would be cool.
Plus it would give you guys more models to base new pirate and t2 ships off of! :)

I think a tiny boost for flying the ships associated with your race is hardly silly and would promote less FOTM pilots. If you get a bonus for your native ship classes, no matter how small, then the game is more likely to have a better cross section of races than currently. I mean, how many thousands of Achura exist because the base stats were 100% better than any other races stats... oh wait, you're Achura yourself, so you're a min/maxxer too.
How many Achura PVP'ers do you see actually flying Caldari? Not that many I'd wager. People grabbed the race for the crazy good PVP stats and then moved right into the PVP FOTM ships, which has swapped from Gallente to Minmatar to Ammar and back to Minmatar in the space of two years.
Someone is bound to say that this will just promote FOTM races instead of ships, but I'm going to head that one off at the pass now: I really don't think that all the 03-08 players are going to suddenly start over just because of a slight racial boost, and the FOTM ship changes with every single patch for the past two years so having FOTM races wouldn't do anyone any good by the time the character has enough SP to be decent.

Somewhere in the fan fest vids or in a blog after there is mention of T3 frigates to be introduced in the next or following expansions. Just thought I would throw that in there :)
As for more T1, there really is no point... maybe a logi BC but I can't think of anything else that could be added.

I'd rather the devs look at the stats, and find the 1 frig per race that isn't being used, and "retire" it from the game. They'd instantly become collector items, and allow CCP to deploy a NEW frigate with NEW models, that's balanced for current game play. I know the cost of modeling is high on a per hour basis, but it really WOULD make eve feel more "real". Ships being retired because their role is taken by a newer ship. It's quite logical.

Yes, it is silly. In-game terms, all the eve races are human, the differences are cosmetic and societal, neither of which has any alteration on your brain's ability to push the buttons and pull the levers. Out of game terms, we don't need characters herded along specific paths based on their charselect choice, the freedom to train is fine just the way it is Quote: and would promote less FOTM pilots. If you get a bonus for your native ship classes, no matter how small, then the game is more likely to have a better cross section of races than currently.
No, it's going to have a worse cross-section. People will roll whatever has the leetest ships when they made their character, rather than now where players can actually choose their characters based on backstory and aesthetics, which is about as close to random as you can get Quote: I mean, how many thousands of Achura exist because the base stats were 100% better than any other races stats... oh wait, you're Achura yourself, so you're a min/maxxer too.
My current character happens to be a 1.2m SP trading and leet posting alt with 20 charisma, but nice swing at the ad hominem; my mains are a brutor and a deteis Quote: How many Achura PVP'ers do you see actually flying Caldari? It will lead to FOTM races, just not for the vets. New players will be directed in corp chats and by friends who already play to roll whatever's 'the best' at that point in time, just like what happened with the Achura. Heck, it'll probably still be caldari that'll be fotm, considering most everyone does missions at some point and Caldari ships have only been the best at that since...forever?
Sure, there'll be some jumping around on what's best patch to patch from PvPers, but they'll probably still pick what's best at the time and hope it won't be nerfed _____________________ Horrors! Demons in the deep! |
