I want to get better at PvP and in my previous failures, I find I have no way to learn from what I did wrong for the most part. So I figure what better way than to record my fights and watch them later?
I tried out fraps and the wegame client, but they lag my game up to the point where it is unplayable even in the lower quality recording modes.
Lowering my screen resolution isn't really an option as EVE is cluttered enough as it is
System Specs: AMD Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.4 ghz ATI HD 4890 2(2x2 gB) ddr3 1333 Plenty of free space
I honestly didn't see a lack of system power being an issue here but I could be wrong I suppose.
Would lowering game detail help here maybe? Does anyone have any suggestions or something I might have missed?

TBH, you have to play with fraps and eve settings sometimes.
Also, I think there may be some background programs that will lag you to hell. I once downloaded bitdefender, tried it, liked it, then hit fraps one day and deleted it shortly afterwards. So you may want to test your recorder with some other progams on and off.

If you have a slow drive Fraps will drop the fps to compensate for the delayed writing to disk.
For optimum performance you should have fraps write to a separate disk than that EVE uses, switching off the audio recording may also help.

Though my drive array shouldn't be slow, I did not try this. I suppose I could have played with it a little more before asking for help but I figured I would see what you all use and how you did it.
I will try killing all background processes to see if that helps. Also, I will try dropping all detail and graphic settings down.
So what does the EVE community use for recording programs?

Set EVE's Present Interval to "Interval Immediate" so that vsync doesn't interfere with Fraps. Next, when you set an FPS in Fraps that's what it slows your framerate down to. If you hit CTRL + F in-game you'll have your FPS monitor (or you can use the one w/ Fraps). If you set Fraps to record at 30 fps, that's what your actual FPS will drop down to. Setting this to 50 increases file size but also increases your actual FPS. You could also go with a custom setting that will allow you to have playable FPS. Just play around with it..
Remember that most EVE vids are sped up, so even at 25 FPS or so, sped up the video will look fine.

I can't recall b/c I haven't read fraps page lately, that when you record at 30 fps, you don't actually slow the gameplay down to 30. I know the easy test is Control F, I just thought fraps takes however many glimpses of whatever is going on in the screen per second. If you're really lagged in game regardless of fraps your image will still look still and if your not it will record at 30. Either way I record at 30 and it's fine for game play and videos. However on my older pc with a crappier vid card it really lags it down to like 11 fps recordable, this pc handles the 30 fine. It's a gt8800 nvidia or something. ------- LTI(new) 9Lives UTS! WB2A!

Edited by: zaneyard on 10/02/2010 01:08:25 I can play fine at pretty much max settings at 1920x1200 without any lag, aside from the stupid clouds of **** that lags supercomputers. I only notice a framerate drop when I activated Fraps' or wegame's recording function.
I'll try that Vsync thing later but I don't think i have Vsync turned on at all.
Can anyone confirm/deny the Fraps slowing down thing?

triple post lul, but for those who use fraps, the framerate you record in makes your game reflect that framerate. moved record framerate up to 60 fps, game only lowered to 60 fps
