Originally by: Malcanis In all fairness, despite Bellum being as usual, shall we say somewhat inclined to overstate his case, he does make one extremely good point:
A reworking of the trade, industry and mining mechanics is both long overdue and urgently required. Quantum Rise was supposed to be the expansion that delivered these reforms but instead it became a bugfix expansion. No complaints there, but a real Industry expansion is much more necessary and will benefit far more players than T3 frigates or whatever.
Good sir, do you have a newsletter? I would like to subscribe to it.
It should also be mentioned that an overhaul to mining would probably be good at hindering mining macros. ----------

For once, Bellum, I agree with you. /me cuts himself
I am not particularly looking forward to WiS or DUST, either. But CCP is an evolving business, and their direction makes sense from a business viewpoint. Sure, the EVE player base may become more WoWesque, but we are still years away from becoming Hello Kitty Online. In the end, a larger community may lead to more RL ISK for CCP, hence more devs, and a better-functioning dev team.
CCP's quantity-over-quality initiative as of late has a lot of the vets frustrated, but it is part of the ever-shifting balance that is game design.
Time will tell regarding whether EVE is dieing, Incana sucking, and DUST fragging. Stop posting.

in keeping with their importance these would properly be referred to as Dust Mites as it's only in the collective that they might matter.

I'm just hoping after WIS, DUST, and planetary interaction are launched we get an expansion that should basically be called:"EVE: We fixed stuff". I don't see planetary interaction or WIS to be any easier launch wise than Dominion. We'll be due in for a bugfix expansion...

Yeah I have this massive idea for flushing out scientist job into a full field profession and not even one comment bleh I dont expect anything tbh on improvments they're very slow at picking things to improve and then cancel themw when they dont work out in the end, you see them try stuff and they're afraid of doing soemthing that would become irreversable or worse never used. I guess I was kinda hoping it would be an expansion that wasn't also paired with "EVE: We also broke stuff"

Originally by: Bellum Eternus There is a phrase- "perception is truth". Right now a lot of Eve players that I've been talking to have the perception that CCP's main focus at the moment is delivering products that are outside the main focus of Eve Online. That is to say, while each of these may improve Eve with respect to more players and more recognition outside of our niche interest group, it's not apparent what CCP is doing to improve the core gameplay elements of Eve.
No, T3 frigs don't count.
So what info do we have about what CCP is working on with respect to the core elements of Eve gameplay? Stuff like mining or industry or market improvements? PVP improvements, game balancing, improving lowsec. You know, important stuff that the core players of Eve care about.
Inquiring minds want to know.
If you don't have an external layer, then you cant have a core can you?

Edited by: Mecinia Lua on 11/02/2010 05:40:34 To remain competitive EVE needs to break into the area of planetary and station environments.
STO is unbelievably broken from what I've heard, much like in the tradition of SWG an unfinished product was shipped and they are counting on players to stick around and wait for them to fix it.
CCP has been working on incarna for at least 5 years off and on. That means they have the potential to release a very polished Incarna from the get go which could attract more players.
EVE is probably middle aged at this point as games go. It is the only MMO of its generation that has continually had an increase in subscriptions. Incarna should help in this manner, there are folks who log into EVE just to chat sometimes because they miss their friends. The Incarna environment should help move these to the station environment rather than in space hopefully reducing lag system wide.
DUST is a separate game that can affect outcomes in EVE and I think vice versa....after all if you shoot down the transport ship or bombard them from space it will affect the other game, if you hold space but the other side holds the planet that probably would have an effect too.
I know many would prefer more work towards eliminating lag. While certainly something has gone wrong in the Dominion programming (probably someone accidentally reverting it to older code through an outdated code map or portions of the improvement reverted to older code)there is really only so much you can do about lag. Given the size of fleets and computers in a battle it is impossible to eliminate lag, we simply don't have the level of technology required nor is technology evenly distributed among all the people of the world.
Personally I think we should have more ships and more ship models. I'd also like to see mines brought back for 0.0 warfare. I don't agree with the each ship has to have a unique role, I'd like to see some minor variations on the same theme to increase choice and options :).
Thoughts expressed are mine and mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect my alliances thoughts.

I can see why people are fixed on CCP fixing the lag.
But Dust and Incarna have really nothng to do with CCP's (in)ability to fix it ASAP.
It's like having two construction teams adding two new rooms to a house while also having a water leak in the garden. Even if you shifted all the construction workers to fix the leak chances are they would only get in the way of the plumber.
Originally by: Naomi Wildfire Yeah, Star Trek Online shows it (in a very bad way), but it would be really cool to have EVE and DUST work together in ONE client.
Imagine: There is like 1 populated Planet to be conquerd in each system. You need to fly there and "land" on it but your opponents are trying to avoid that. A battle in space starts to prevent forces to land on the planet, blue or red. Meanwhile the forces already landed are trying to fight for the sov on the planet.
I think i would absolutely love that.
Yeah it would be pretty nice if fights in space (and blockades) affected resources and troop reinforcements and other aspects on disputed territories in DUST. While DUST outcomes affected considerably the flow of ISK and production/resources for capsuleers with interests on the planet.
Not to mention being able to actually order a nuke (with all the costs and standing implications related to it) is one of those little things I'm looking forward to the most as a capsuleer. |

Bellum, you may end up liking WIS if it ever gets here. your current playstyle of sitting in lo sec waiting for targets could transition nicely to waiting in the bathroom to mug somebody when their **** is out..
then you could post multiple threads how ccp need to make station bathrooms more attractive to entice ppl in etc..

Well, "Hope springs eternal in the human breast" but then Alexander Pope never wrote new code into an existing core framework otherwise he might have said "Undetectable errors are infinite in variety, in contrast to detectable errors, which by definition are limited."

I'm looking forward to Dust 514 and Incarna. While the lag monster can be annoying it seems that CCP is trying to fix this issue and lets face it its not exactly easy in a game like EVE to deal with something like this.
Dust has potential but my hopes for it actually being a good game are not high. Its CCP's first shooter and having alot of the tech work done in China is not a good thing in my book. I'm just hoping it will be decent enough so for a while at least I will be helping out my EVE character instead of just playing another shooter which I do now anyway.
