Does it feel like a much bigger accomplishment? :)

The Hawk is widely perceived as being one of the least useful ships in the game.
So was Drake and 3/4s of Caldari ships but that does not make it the truth.
I was merely stating that that was the reason for his being flamed.

That's an unfair generalisation, and I feel offended :(

1) very few people ever pay 2) if they want to pay they've something in their ship which is many times worth of possible ransom, so it's just better to blow them up.
it leaves most of the time only the pods, you don't drop implants anyway.
and in this particular case, hawks might have some mediocrely priced mods so you want to blow them up unless they offer like 25mil+

I will disagree there. Part of the whole ransom is a negotiation. I was doing a WH in a Drake a while back and was tackled by an Inty, then a Hyperion came in. Took him a bit to get my shields down and while he was blasting away we were chatting. He wanted a 50Mil ransom for my ship and I basically said 50Mil was unreasonable because of insurance and the price of the mods. I offered him 20Mil and said that was the out of pocket cost to replace me ship after insurance. He could take the money and be happy, or he could blow me up and get 1/3rd of the 20Mil if he got luck with the mod drops. 20Mil later he was happy and I still had my ship.
Ransoming isn't dead, it just requires a bit more patience and social engineering then people are willing to put forth.

This is why you fit a ship scanner. If you find out that they have faction/officer mods, you can ransom them appropriately. ----------

Edited by: BeachParty on 12/02/2010 18:03:37 I was taking a short cut through low Sec. on my way to grandmothers POS in a Faction Cruiser. I was totally minding my own business when out of no where I was webbed, scrammed, jammed, popped and podded. I would have payed a ransom but none was offered. I am mystified why someone would ever take the time to scan me down form a gang corner me in a belt and then just kill me? Time for another clone birthday party.
P.S Most PVP Pilots in low sec. are not Pirates, why has no one figured this out?

i stopped ransoming and refusing any ransom proposal. blame the people that didn't want to pay and told you to stop paying ransom.

its not the people who wont pay the ransoms fault, its the fact that the ransoms not worth paying, its risk vs reward so so many people have experiences of ransoms not being honoured so they wont pay.
then factor in the fact more tech 1 ships nowadays are basically free to replace after insurance. on a battle ship your looking at maybe 30-40 mil anything smaller 10-20 mil that's for the cost of the mods, nobody is going to be willing to pay more then half that as a risk. and given most have had at least 1 experience of a ransom not being honoured most wont take the risk for something like 10-20 mil which can be replaced in a few hours.
so from both point of views its a win win until a pod comes into play.
