This is the reality.
While lvl 4 missions are a piece of cake once you got your ultimate battleship, earlier levels of missions are harder and trickier.
I came to this conclussion after starting a new char and play some "noob" missions, I was used to the "hard" lvl 4 but oh crap.
Reasons:
- lvl1 must be done with a frigate/dessie (gate restrictions). And these are fragile ships. New wave of NPC and oh ****!!! red shields/armor after 10 seconds. On lvl4/BS your boat damaging is much more predictable/paced down.
- laughable dps (yours) compared to damage needs. Need 10 minutes to take down some ships/structures. Some lvl2 missions can't be completed unless you bring a friend with a support cruiser.
- NPC jamming on lvl2 and lvl3 missions. You know what, theres not enemy jamming on lvl4 (another proof of the dumbing down of lvl4s).
In conclusion, its easier to die on a lvl1 than on a lvl4. And sometimes its even harder/more time to complete it. So..... discuss

Did you know that Level 3 mission were once only completable in a Battleship and Level 4s required an entire gang? ------------------------------------- The system issues man. |

Try a level 1 mission in an Assault ship: it is much easier to die in a level 4 than a level 1.

if you are paying any attention at all in a level 1 with a dessy they are loleasy.
in level 2s 2 hardeners and a med rep should permatank just about anything. if it doesn't kite the rats a bit and bamf easy!.
although if you are nubish it is just easy to die anywhere tbh.

So you compare level 4's in a pimped BS vs a standard fit frig/destroyer in level 1/2's?
Well with an equally pimp fit frigate they are just as easy as level 4's, if not a lot easier.

Myself, I found other problems with lvl1 and 2 missions....I could survive most of them without special effort in a Thrasher or Breacher, trouble was they didn't make enough money to get out of the Thrasher or Breacher and on to better ships fast enough.
I can see what you are saying though, the early missions are tougher cuz the ship you are in likely in isn't that good..... and also after doing lots of missions in bigger "frontline" combat ships, I can see also how suddenly going back to running speed tanked frigs could feel like you never had done it before.
Mostly, I think I would just call the lower level missions annoying rather than difficult....either way I am in no big hurry to go back and fly them again, not even with my "noob" alt toon I am training.

I started a new char being bored, and wanted to expirience the thrills I had when I was 2 weeks old.
It was boring. Very boring. LVL1 and LVL2 missions are SO easy knowing how the npc's behave, and me skilling the PROPER skills and PROPER fittings. Dead easy.
If you do lvl4's the lazy way (Domi/sentry , CNR, Murauder) I can imagine you had some issues learning again. If you however actively did lvl4's, going back to the lesser ones was too easy..

I started missioning fresh out of the gate with my noob character in his civilian fit ibis. I think it took me about a week to get it blown up.
The only L1 mission I remember having any kind of trouble with was WC. One of the pockets has some pretty serious dps for a little frig or dessie.

When I first began playing EVE, I would agree with this. I had no real idea.
Now, it have a Hookbill, with Frig 3 (training frig 4 as we speak) and I've loaded to the 9's with fun stuff. Speed tanking and sniping with missiles, I solo'd L2 Blockade and only had to warp out once, because I was mining in 0.0 with my main and had to warp away from a Rat spawn.
L2's have been fun and challenging! Take some time, read, ask questions in noob corp and you will prevail. I might even take my frig into L3 and warp out, just cause I can.

I was using a Jaguar just to run level 1 missions (only ones I had due to -3.0 standing to the Amarr faction. TOTAL OVERKILL and it wasn't even pimp fit. Some of the sites don't allow access to tech II frigs so I ran them in a standard punisher pvp fit with no issues.
The easiest way to run these missions is blitz the mission triggers. You rarely take and damage before killing the trigger. ~ Soar Like a Penguin |

Destroyer or Assault Ship will eat level 1 missions for breakfast. You can get into destroyers quite quickly - it's less than a day of training, and you use the same weapon systems you would be using for frigates or assault ships.
There's plenty of ewar in level 4 missions - just because you don't notice it doesn't mean it's not happening. Every Guristas mission involves ECM. Every Serpentis mission involves damps.

Kestrel does every lvl 1 and 2 without problems Interceptor, Pirate frig or Assaultship for added ease.
The Problem isn't the ship or mission difficulty.. the problem are your skills. If you hop into a lvl 4 in a BS without enough skills, you're BS will die and probably faster than a Frig in a lvl 1

Some gates don't let AF's in for 1's... Get a worm. 5 light drones and standard missiles. Turn on the AB and orbit out of the rats range chucking missiles while the drones tear things up.
Very few 2's or 3's have gate restrictions, so just get a good cruiser of some sort (pirate, HAC, T3).
