In an age of darkness...
At a time of crisis...
When the winds of lag sweep across the galaxy...
In this era of woe, few are willing to take a stand for justice.
Few will fight to right the fiscal wrongs that afflict mankind.
Few are willing to walk the thankless path of tax collection.
We are those few.
We are the IRS.
These are our logs...
And so begins the ninth installment of the critically acclaimed Taxman series. (Goddamn I've been doing this for awhile.) Other chapters being Taxman I: The Taxman Cometh, Taxman II: Amarr Safari, Taxman III: Attack of the Blob, Taxman IV: Rogue Agent, Taxman V: Back in Black, Taxman VI: Voided Ledger, Taxman VII: Kingdom of Vlad, and Taxman VIII: Vlad in the 25th Century. As always thanks to all of our readers for the comments and feedback we have received. For those who do not enjoy the audit logs, please go get cancer and die (in-game).

Audit Log - Prologue - Weeks following the ICE audit have been busy. Nice change from the tedious boredom of cowering criminals. Roam Mito. Enforce mining law. Impound ore and punish the guilty with the Battle Badger. Tally up the Coveters. Relaxing honest work. Way it should be. Note the habitual criminals. The unrepentant. Possible tax offenders. Possible future audits.
Still, find time to keep up with the probing skills. Hunt the occassional wormhole. Try some Gurista cosmic sigs. 400mil shield booster in hi-sec. Gotta like that. Hit L5 missions for the Navy for the first time. Turns out we can solo them in a Drake. Nice. Easy loyalty rewards. Easy ISK. Gotta be careful it doesn't become a habit though. Shouldn't be a problem though. Can quit anytime we want.
Hanging in Vuorrassi, chain running my sixth L5 of the day. Rogue Spy arc. Drone battleships. Hate no bounties. Finishing first room and a Dramiel warps-in. Funny. Usually happens the other way around. Whatever. Not like I was gonna waste time looting. Finally start up a convo after some techincal issues.
Dram pilot is one Jesslyn Daggererux. A filthy Gallente trollop. Figures that frog-trash would stoop to ninja-ing hi-sec missions. But... turns out she apparently knows me. And not from being a previous victim either. Weird. In fact, seems to be a fan. Huh. Had been searching for WTs and mistook our mission-running Drake for a carebear... Erm. Yeah... well... it's not exactly what it looks like. It's kinda... well... Important part is she was wrong! Quickly change the subject to her war. Kinda remember doing something like that before. Before we started chasing the green mission fairy. Apparently her target is Venture Alliance. One of the criminal syndicates we had been looking at. Hell, had already pushed thru the vote for it a week ago. Coincidence. And then she pops the question. To join the IRS...
Had a recruitment post up for a week and not a single sincere applicant. Now one warps in on me. Uncanny. Her record looks good. Sly trickery and ballzy kills. True she flies that Gallente crap instead of a decent Caldari ship. But she seems competent enough. And been awhile since I've had a wingman. Winggirl. Whatever. She's hired. Won't even bother doing our normal paranoid API check. I mean she seems nice. What could possibly go wrong?
Split the cost on the war dec. 24 hours and we are back in business. The way the IRS should be. A Duo of Death. Always two there are, a master and an apprentice.

Because he is a good Caldari. Very Upstanding Citizen (tm). There is no reason why he should not acquiesce to using the right tools for the job however. For a long time eschewed the missle-chuckers and their non-symmetrical ships and weird angles, recently I've found that drakes make acceptable platforms for mayhem (Now, where did I put those missile specialization skills?)

Audit Log 20100217.1746 - Venture Alliance. Had been hoping for a leader named Rusty and a Swedish murder machine. No such luck. Instead a hundred odd thugs of the lowest grade. Miners. Mission runners. Filth. Sent the usual letter of past due taxes. For the usual 100mil amount. Funny how it always works out like that. Get no response. It's always that or the rant of innocence. Not much for imagination those criminals. Fine by me. Just means it's audit time.
Seen VENT about in BCs, a few BSs, the odd recon or two. Pfft. Won't even break a sweat. Especially with my new trusted wingman -person. Whatever. Apparently she has even done a bit of background work on them. Novel concept. Gotta try that sometime. Venture POS in Vuorr and one down in Amarr space. Seems to know a bit about them. Quite a bit. Convenient. Thug MO seems to be cowering in station or POS bubble all day. Joy. Bit of research on my part figures out why.
Jesslyn's old corp, Private Nuisance, is at war with VENT. Think she mentioned something like that before. Wasn't really paying attention at the time. Honestly, who listens to their babble anyway? Regardless, looks like Private Nuisance gave them a working over yesterday. Figures the hoodlums are a bit gun-shy now. Try sitting in belts or on gate in a Vexor. Nothing. 8 of them in system, and nothing. Right. Another "bore them to death" audit. Never works though. Justice always prevails in the end. Always.
VENT outstanding taxes and fines stand at 100,000,000 ISK.

Not quite. I don't know how many times I have to say it, but I really am just a mediocre pilot. I have about half as many SPs as battleclinic thinks I should. And 25% of those are in Science & Industry skills. There are other pilots far more worthy of that title than me.

Audit Log 20100218.2103 - Some days. Some days just turn out that way. VENT hugging their Vuorrassi tower. Bored. Lounge about system in a Vexor. Boring. Trying to bait their Drakes. They're having none of it. Boredom. God just kill me already. Get a call from Jesslyn. Running a combat sig and needs help. And she was busting our balls for the L5? Unbelievable. Start heading down towards hoodiehead space. As if it wasn't enough of a hassle. Sigh.
Apparently finishes two more parts of her escalation before I even get there. Next part is in nullsec. Hmmm. Something says this is bad. Whatever. Start heading that direction as she refits her Dram. Jump and there's a solo Cynabal in pirate red. Yeah. Know how this is gonna work. MWD back towards gate. Cyna unloads. 425s. Hits about as hard as I thought. And his shields are only slightly dented by the gate guns. Scanner clear. Which isn't a good thing. Jesslyn still undocking. Already halfway thru my 1600 plate. No way she's gonna make it in time. Bite the bullet and jump... Right into the Vaga and Diemost waiting on the other side. Just as I figured. I hate competent pirates. Welp. If I can make it back to gate the Cyna will probably have bailed. Wait the timer, overheat MWD and go! Burn towards gate. 12km, 10, 8, locked. 6km, web and scram. 5km, quarter armor. 4km, hull. 3km. Go little Vexor go! 2600km... Damn. Spam warp the pod. Just as Jesslyn comes flying in. Pirates bail both sides of the gate. Jesslyn able to scoop loot. Hmmmm. Limp home in a shuttle. Think that escalation can just go feck itself.
Reship in Hageken with another Vexor. The pinnacle of cruiser construction. VENT still tower hugging, so random patrols here. Spot an illegal miner. Flying the Legion of Boom (LOBL) flag. Tangled with this group of idiots before. Traded a Merlin for their Wolf. Played with a Cane. Wasn't bad, but mouthy little biatches. BM the can and continue patrols. Next set of belts find a Maelstrom out at range. Also LOBL. And it's Locutus Lindsey, the Wolf pilot we popped a few days back. Trap eh? Well I'll take that bait. Back to can, impound, and then warp to the Mael belt. Think you can take a Vexor? Slam the MWD, Mael lights us up. At 50km the arties unload on us.

Audit Log 20100218.2103 - Cont. - First volley blasts shields. Second volley dents armor. And by then I'm on top of it. Drop the drones and go to work with ACs and neut. Mael launches warriors. Only damage we're taking, but enough to be annoying. Set the Hobgobbie to work on them, big boys stay on the Mael. sit back and relax. Call in Jesslyn's Vexor to watch the show. Mael shields breaking, we're still at 2/3 armor. Then a LOBL Drake warps in. Crap. Overheat guns. Drake locking me. And so is Jesslyn? And she's launching drones?! Biiiiatch! I knew I never should of trusted that fecking lying frog whor-... Oh wait. Light armor bots. Erm. Thanks. Mael into armor, drake hitting with Scourges. Good, at least they're not HAMs. Maint bots repping they're little robotic hearts out. Damage still stacking. Mael into hull, I'm at 1/3 armor. Mael buckles and implodes. 1/4 armor and turn on the Drake. Let loose with the ACs and shields shred. LOL. Failfit. Satisfying explosion and we're still at 10% armor. Love those little armor bots.
Start checking wrecks. Armor bots got me back up to 3/4. Concord timer for LOBL coming to an end when Locutus Lindsey comes back in a Wolf. Heh, like that's gonna work any better. Wolf at belt zero a good 200km off. Eye a can and warp. She had the same idea on the wrecks. Pass each other just as Drake pilot comes back in a Moa. Along with LOBL Domi and Abbadon. Heh, too bad timer is up for them. Tackle and unload on the Moa. Pops as quick as you'd expect a range Moa to. Just in time for the Wolf to finish warping back. The next plate in a 6-course meal of carnage. Start chewing away when Abaddon drops light rep bots on the Wolf. Guess we know our next target. Only drags out the Wolf's death. But not content with it's stupidity, Abbadon opens up on Jesslyn. Apparently still flagged from repping me. Nice. Now she's in the fight too!
Jess swaps to a Cynabal. Gotta love the swiss-army Orca that always seems to follow her around. Abaddon tackled. I finish putting the Wolf out of it's misery. Time for another meaty BS course. Both of us ripping into the laserboat when the LOBL Domi decides drone repping the Abaddon is a good idea. Oh god could this get any better? Down to 1/3 armor, Jess at a sliver of shield. Domi will be a tough plate. But Abaddon first. Under the guns so not taking damage right now. Keep pounding away, rep drones making no difference at all. Abaddon into it's last shreds of armor when the Domi bails out. Doh! Didn't bother pointing. Thought he'd be stupid enough to stay. Dammit!
Or not. Here's Locutus Lindsey returning yet again. Third time's a charm? Hurricane this time. Abbadon explodes just as locks finish on Locutus. Know she's AC-fit. Swoop out to range. Drones chomping away. Cane decides splitting fire is a good call. ACs on Jess, drones on me. Couldn't be a worse choice. Jess has Barrage and falloff. My guns and web only good for skeet shooting drones. Hurricane dies a pathetic whimpering death held at range and explodes.
And then silence. Drifting in a sea of wreckage and abandoned drones. Holy shiite. Did we actually just do that? In buffer fit cruisers? Think we might have audited the wrong alliance. LOL. But... nice as it is, doesn't make a difference on our current job.
VENT outstanding taxes and fines still stand at 100,000,000 ISK.

Audit Log 20100218.2103 - Addendum - Night passes slowly. Can't sleep. Still amped from adrenaline, alcohol, and boosters. Decide that some work might actually be in order today. Gotta do something to justify the salary we don't get paid. Check the fabulous non-consenual buddylist. Hit up some locators for a VENT hoodlum named Cytlight. Apparently lurking down in the slums that pass for Minnie space. Haven't been down that way in awhile. Grab a Hurricane to blend in with the locals and roadtrip. No luck. Docked up. Lovely.
Head back home. Stop off in Amamake to chat with good friends in Mugen. Catch up on old times. And notice the buddylist again. Magnum Milspire, VENT crimeboss has been blinking on and off like a strobe light for the past hour. About every 5 minutes. And from what Jesslyn had been saying, he was working on a POS down in these parts. Yooh system. True Sansha Large Tower too. And it's getting close to mandatory sleep hour. Every 5 minutes? Close to DT? Oh. My. God. Later Mugen!
Pulse the MWD every jump. Go! Go! Hit system with 30 minutes to spare. Milspire in local. Warp to planet. Scan enroute. Please be taking it down! Please! FF still up. Dammit! Hit planet and there's Milspire. In a Bustard. At zero. Land right on top of him. LOLOLOLOL!!! Light him up. Lucky I brought the Cane. Scram and disruptor. No built-in stabs for you! He tries engaging his logoffski drive. Fecking wussy. Take it like a man. Hose him down with EMP, pod emergency warps. Check the wreck. True Sansha Large Beam Battery. No doubt for all the cap ships that will POS attack in hi-sec.
Decision time. Get a probe launcher for vengeance? Or a hauler for the Beam? Fiscal responsibility wins out in the end. Besides, might be some more unanchored gear at the moon. And there is. Neuts, generic beams, some ECM. Not a single thing online. It's a POS-mod buffet. Course if I had been 10 minutes slower I might have been scooping up a billion ISK faction tower. Oh well. Tally it up. 190mil with the bustard. Audit complete. One shot, one kill. The IRS way.
VENT account shows a credit of -90,000,000 ISK to be held against further transgressions of the tax code.
(All thanks to the Concord Carebear Protectorate's non-consensual buddylist. Since they've nerfed every other successful tactic and ship I've ever used, hopefully they'll nerf this one too. Free intel is BS.)

Dear Raging WT,
I am writing you to inform you that I disagree with your assessment. Your alliance is unwilling to fight a 1 sided war. One sided for them, that is. All while sitting in a POS bubble or station and smacking. It is no different than any other, target, only to such an extreme amount that one would have to assume the concept of fun is forgotten. Anti Audit Log 2010.02.21.1527 - These were the Best of times and the worst of times.
Another pirate came a calling today, and an ugly stiff as a board one at that. He was incognito as a taxman from the Empire, and smelled as if he had not known the comforts that empire space can provide, showers, bathrooms, and the sweet smell of home built by family. Pirates never understand the core concepts of family, maybe because they had troubled lives or one to many trips through the cloning bays have diluted their sense of unity. The family is a haven in a heartless world. I still ponder why they all try the same con, was I born yesterday, must have been. He claimed we owed millions in Isk, but had no real documentation to back up this claim. We pay our taxes to the empire and have always had a good relationship with them. They know we are on the up and up.
So we tried to reason with him but Pirates do not understand reason, just violence and games. The kind of games that get them killed. We are a peaceful folk out here in the dark cold depths of space. We wanted nothing more than to live our lives and work hard to make ends meet.
We were surprised however when the mail arrived and they had War Dec'd us. Pirates that follow rules, must not be very good pirates in the end. So we did what we do every time these bastards come calling. We gave them as few targets as we could, left them to be bored and playing with themselves just a few clicks off the station. As far as pirates go this is the way they fight. They play station games and dock for hours on end.
We are just simple mining folk out here, we do our best to stay out of the nonsense and pitiful feuds of the verse, but will defend our homes from s****in any color, shape, and size. We know the meaning of friends and of family and we stick together through thick and thin. We help one another, we teach one another, and most of all we care for one another. We will defend ourselves and be nice until it is time to not be nice. We are united and we always will be.
The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking one another out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together.
We will not pay, we will not fall, we are untited.
The Venture Family

Mate, if there's one constant here, it's that people trying to "write themselves successful" in the middle of a taxman thread tend to come off, at the very least, a bit sad and whiney. And usually, as comparatively poor writers. Combat rule #1 is, do not fight on ground where the enemy has the advantage, yes? Well, he does this stuff better than you. You've lost a comparatively small amount of isk, sensible move is to take it on the chin and move on.

Fun read! Actually got into Eisenhorn and the W40K books as a result of doing the audits. Just kinda meshed well. Never really thought about it, but probably pulled some inspiration from that, and from Mitchell's Ciaphas Cain as well. Also a bit of Morgan's Takeshi Kovacs. And of course good ole pulp noir.

Audit Log 20100219.2228 - New day. New punishment for the fiscally irresponsible. POS attack with Private Nuisance. Never really been one for this crap. Dull and monotonous. Lacks the instant gratification. But kinda hard to pass up killing a large faction tower. Should be a nice financial hit in the end. And might even draw out the hoodlums to defend. One can only hope.
Grab the Domi and some Gardes, form up in Yooh. Already a few Private Nuisance here. Ravens and Geddons, even some navy versions. Trio of Guardians too. Well prepared group. Deploy the sentries, sit back and wait. Just figured out their corp ticker. PRKS. Classy. At least they didn't use a period in their name. Not surprisingly, they're a rough crowd. Anuses, farm animals, and family members seem to be the topics of choice. Gonna be a long siege.
Grind down the shields. Bet for stront? No takers. Especially if VENT is stupid enough to fit Large Beams and have everything offline. Into armor when PRKS start getting excited. Apparently hired an obvious VENT spy. And he's coming to help. Poor dumb bastard. Shows up in an Abaddon at range. Slowly putters towards the group. PRKS giggling away like school children. You'd think the Curse would give it away. But keeps on coming. Lamb to the slaughter. 20km and the PRKS unload. Fight is short and one-sided. Corp kick the spy and PRKS seem rather proud of themselves. Then all hell breaks loose.
Concord. Apparently one the geniuses decided that shooting the spy's wreck was a good idea... after they had kicked him from corp. Fine for him due to personal aggro. Not so good for the non-aggro'd energy transfer chain. Guardians fall one after another like dominos. Unbelievable. Utter and complete fecking fail. PRKS stop giggling. Then burst into full on laughter. Bloody idiots. Really glad I brought a generic combat Domi instead of something with RR.
POS finally dies after a bit more pounding. Only VENT contribution was to send down some alts to watch. Pitiful. Can't even be bothered to defend a billion ISK investment. Speaking of which, how do we enter this in the ledger? Meh. Did 10% of the damage. We'll take 10% of the credit.
VENT account shows a credit of -190,000,000 ISK to be held against further transgressions of the tax code.

Another day in the grind. Protecting the inoccent from more pirate scum. They gloss themselves up calling it 'justice'..but i know what they are. Rotten to the core.
Reports come in. More solo rookie pilots ambushed. Ive had enough. i'll show them what justice means. Report comes in. Raven attacking the POS at range...coward. Move into position. Another ship warps in. Its a VENT battleship. Good distraction. I uncloak and thats it she doesnt know it yet but shes already dead. Thats what happens when you get ****y. Chalk up another kill. Justice is served.
Once more out in the cold dark void. Reports coming in ...Vlad is in system. Good. Hes in a hurricane...looks lost. Im already in position.Once again target is already dead. Overconfident. Yes. Blind to the trap. Yes. The attack begins. I decloak with my wingman. Jammed, scrammed and webbed. Hes already going down before the reserves warp in another good day. Chalks up another kill.
Local seems busy...as per standard filled with enemy alts. let them watch. Vlad has come back for another beating it seems. Learn the hard way he must. Very well. The fool broadcasts his location in local. Unwise. Within moments his Vexor is trapped and going down. I feel pitty for him. Easy prey. But theres no room for remorse. Not in the darkness of the void.
Better Luck next time....

Audit Log 20100220.2102 - Boredom. Day starts as usual. VENT hiding in their tower. Me sitting watching them. Dull. Terribly so. Bounce a few times to tower at long range trying to bait out some heroes. No takers. Sigh. then get a call from Jess. Apparently some "friends" of hers are popping a tower in wormhole space. Wants to know if I want to join in. Riiight. That sounds like a really good idea. And how the hell does she know so many people? I mean honestly. Most of the people I know we end up shooting. Violence. Best and final method of social interaction.
Anyway, load up the Domi and head out. I mean what could possibly go wrong? A few jumps towards Jita and there we are at wormhole entrance. Rest of gang apparently already inside attacking. Convenient. Follow her thru and... all clear. As it should be. Align and warp. Unknown gang at a tower should be fine, right? Wall of ships! Ravens, Apocs, Domis. All with drones out. Typical tower assault. Drop our sentries and join in. Pfft. As if there were anything to worry about. Get a few bombs dropped on us. Solo bomber wasting his ISK. Can't even break the drone shields. But at least it breaks up the monotony. Half hour later and the tower is reinforced. Feh. Was hoping for no stront. Oh well. Gang packs it up, head back out. Back to stalking VENT.
Hit Vuorrassi. About 10 VENT in system. Hiding in tower and stations. Switch to the Cane. Camp the stations. Finally pays off. VENT Drake at range. And it cloaks? Brilliant. Warp to can nearby. No luck with decloak. But another Drake undocks. It's Kiera Spyder, no talent roidsucker with two kills to her name. One of which against her own alliance mate. Easy meat. Guess we'll take her then. Warp back to station. And VENT gang warps to cloaked buddy. Scorp and a bunch of drakes. LOL. Fail trap timing. Reckon we can still take the station Drake. Overheat the ACs and go to work. Roidsucker locks back. Point, web, HAMs. That's... unexpected. Gang hits station. Mmmm. Time to get some range. Pulse the MWD. MWD? Oh. Crap. scrammed. Roidsucker not quite so fail. Gang locks. Scorp jams. Drakes fire. Pull the drones, cross the fingers. Dock? Dock? Goose. Warp out the pod. Feck!
Hit Oimmo. Swap to the Domi. Unbutton the collar and slam some Exile. Biatchez gonna pay! All of 'em. Back to station and they're all gone. Even the wreck. Feh. Bounce about stations looking for targets. Exile clock running out and finally get a mark. Another Drake. Chadwick Lamar. Jesus, could a name get any more "victim" than that? Lock and unload. Idiot actually fires back. VENT fishing for another kill, eh? Never works out well for the worm though. Drake already into armor by the time VENT blob arrives. Satisfying explosion. Start locking next target and jammed. Sigh. Pull the drones and wait. Reps fairly well. Check the loot. All crap. Wait. Looks like we got permajam. Bah. Dock.
Quick rep. Jump back out. All gone. Once again, even the wreck. Feh. Tally up the day.
VENT account still shows a credit of -190,000,000 ISK to be held against further transgressions of the tax code.

I'm curious, though. I note that VENT have been carrying a 190m credit balance on the IRS ledger for some time now. Doesn't the willful destruction of IRS property during the course of a lawful audit count against that credit balance?
I would think it should, but perhaps there are esoteric elements in the tax code with which I'm not familiar.

Audit Log 20100221.1954 - New day, new justice to enforce. Except VENT not cooperating. Still holed up in their tower. Of course. Every day, all fecking day. Well time to get them out of it. Grab the all-purpose Vexor and head out. Try some tower drive-bys to coax out targets. No luck. Check the stations. No action. Hang on the gates. Utter boredom. Sigh. Even Jess not available. Apparently off getting herself podded in wormhole. Brilliant.
Bounce around Vuorr aimlessly. Then get a call out in local. Sultry VENT minx, Mia Lang. Claims she's in belt 4-1. OMFW! Nothing. Cloaked? No. Turns out the bimbo can't even get her location right. Whatever. She can come to me. Yes, come to Vlad. Wait. Wait. Waiting. Screech of decloaks!
Rapier and Falcon. Reknowned sodomite, Ozec, in the junkship. Shrill little VENT martinet and brave L5 mission leader, Cmdr Khaine, in the tinfoil jammer. Decisions, decisions. Feck it. Kill em all. Launch drones, start locking back. Jammed, but drones off and away. Another uncloak. Mia in a Manti. Lovely. Then screen starts filling with red. Six Battlecruisers. And a Hype. LOL. Guess they're really scared of a Vexor. Got warriors all over me. Still permajammed. No idea what the hell our drones are doing. Shields gone. Chunks of armor blasting away. This... doesn't look so good. Speed is non-existant even with MWD on. Double rapier web at the very least. Kill MWD to drop sig bloom. Mmmm. Probably shoulda done that sooner. Torps hurt. Drake missiles incoming. Into hull. Come on drones, take a recon with us. And... pop!
Warp the egg. Feh. Drones couldn't pull it off. On the plus side, at least VENT came outside for some sunshine. Reship to the Ninja-zu. Check the belt, everything gone. Just like last time. They're efficient salvagers if nothing else. Oh well, only a Vexor. VENT back in their tower, stroking themselves in local comms over their valiant victory. Mighty.
Jess finally comes strolling back into system with her shiny new clone. Great timing. Trade stories of ship losses. Make matters worse, audit about to end soon too. Well ain't gonna end like this! For I have a cunning plan. Tomorrow. Same belt, but in a Domi. When VENT shows up, trustworthy Jess warps in with her RR Domi. And then we kill them all... and stuff... What could possibly go wrong?
VENT account decreases to a credit of -170,000,000 ISK to be held against further transgressions of the tax code.

Audit Log 20100319.1722 - Bloody hell! Couldn't have a worse time for a monitor error. An entire month gone by without justice. Return to find life in shambles. Our brilliant plan missed. Jesslyn bailed like the filthy untrustworthy lying scamming vile backstabbing flea-ridden Frog tramp she is. No loyalty whatsoever. So we disappeared without a word for a month. What of it?! CEO perogative. Nerve of some people.
Start piecing things back together. Corp wallet practically empty. Drained by auto bill pay. Illegal mining as endemic as it ever was. And VENT still lurking around being criminal. Well first things first. Replenish the wallet. And one of the favorite ways to do that is impound illegal ore. Make a good run of it. Plenty of ore. Occasional recalcitrant criminal punished. And even bump into VENT a few times. They get special attention.
Still crowing about their manly kills. Yet strangely forgetful of their losses. Well. Remind them. Make our presence known. Build up their emorage. Flip the cans. Harass the mining ops. Invade their missions. All in preparation of what's to come. For two weeks we pursue them. Then it's time.

Audit Log 20100330.2209 - Welp. Second day of second audit, and VENT is back to their old tricks. Sitting in tower still stroking themselves over the Vexor kill. Unbelievable. Apparently this oh-so-successful plan is the brainchild of their demagogue leader, Cmdr Khaine. Stunning impact of which is to somehow cause us crippling economic loss via a no-action audit. Point out that lack of production and mission running is probably hurting them more. Leads to predictable results. Crude insults and petty meanness. Lovely. What is it about criminals that they always flock to their worst specimens? Whatever. All it requires is patience. And we are nothing if not patient.
Tedious mind-numbingly boring hours pass. Practically want to claw our way out of the pod when we finally get a hit. Named Abbadon. Hypons, raw new recruit and bucking young gun for VENT. Aka Easy Meat. Swap to Helios and start running probes. Result. Swap to Arazu, hit mission... only wrecks. L2 wrecks by the looks of it. Well crap. And then he comes warping back in. In a salvage dessie. Feh. Yes? No? Screw it. Justice is justice, kill is a kill. Go for the proximity decloak and bump. Drop drones. 5 second timer never seemed so long. Locking. And he warps. Well feck. Burnt that target. He knows I'll be hunting him from now on. Over a freaking dessie too. What a waste.
Back to Helios to lurk. Work the directional. Try to find something. Anything. Just to end this boring hell. Recheck Hypnos' mission on a lark. And he's there. In a Harby. Quick check local. 4 other VENT. Roidsucker Kiera Spyder and her three minion alts. Trap likelihood? Middle to high. Domi time. Over to Oimmo to swap, jump back, and let's do this! Except he's gone. Again. Sigh. Gonna be another of those audits.
VENT account shows a credit of -120,000,000 ISK to be held against further transgressions of the tax code. Freaking audit costs.

Audit Log 20100331.1446 - Give and take. It's the nature of audits. A rhythm. Like a rising tide that eventually drowns the criminal in his own inequities. Such is the way of the taxman.
Day starts out just like the last. More smack from inside a tower. Typical criminal lack of morality. I blame their poor leadership, parents, and society in general. Basically all the things we'd be better off without. Wander about. Run locators. Find the stragglers. No luck. All dock and hide. Even try utilizing our super secret prober spy. Stealthy methods like sitting right outside stations in a Heron. Undocking right behind them. Constant combat probes. They will never suspect us. Not that it matters. Don't find a damn thing.
Back to Mito and the criminal hideout. Try some Vexor bait. No takers. Finally track one down to Oimmo 5-1 station. Our favorite victim Chadwick Lamar and his Drake. Except he isn't alone this time. Three others. Second Drake, Cane, and of course a Scorp. Never engage without ECM figgotry - VENT motto. Quick bio checks. Only one looks competent. Akuma Nei, second string sergeant and general lapdog to the VENT "elite". Most likely organizer of this little foray. Pretty sure he's in the Scorp. Mainly cuz he's parked on the ass end of the station, 170km off undock. Subtle. Could ship up, but would probably just scare them off. Let's see what fun can be had with the Vexor.
Chadwick undocks. Lock him up and... he docks. Okay. Not often I get BCs docking from cruisers. Aww, who am I kidding? Happens all the time. Wait a few and he undocks again. Lock and... he docks. Right. Try patiently explaining in local how this is supposed to work - undock, fire, let me aggro back, call in his buddies. Got it? Ok third time is a charm. He undocks. Don't even let him fire first. Just hit him with drones and slam the MWD. Skim the station getting distance off undock. Akuma warps in, followed shortly by other two. 3 BCs and a BS for a cruiser. Gotta love it. Recall drones, cross over top of station. Smile as the BCs flop about. Approach doesn't work so hot with a big ass station in the way. Doesn't seem to block missiles too well though. Speaking of which, armor taking some hits. Plus a pack of drones all over us. Pfeh. Can stretch this. Will warp out in hull. It'll be epic lulz! Quarter armor. Hull. Align. Align. More hull. Please align? Warp!... In a pod. Foot meet mouth. Note to self, faked heroics not as cool as real heroics. And Chadwick even got most damage. Sigh. Hubris thy name is Vlad.
Warp back, BCs still there. Dock and reship. Domi time biatchez! Undock with itchy lock finger. Just in time to see the last BC warp away. Figures. Vexor wreck is still there though. Unlooted. Idiots. Always take the trophy head. Victory is meaningless without it. T2 Guns and Ogres survived, good. Pack 'em away and chase to Vuorr. Gotta get me some payback. Get a nice case of blueballs instead. Half hour of sitting on gate, while these scrubs grin smugly like self-satisfied little kittens. Feck! Hate that shiite. Grumble, dock. Grab a bite to eat. Muse on how this audit is quickly taking a nosedive into suckage.

Audit Log 20100331.1446 - Cont. Few hours later. Return rested and fed. Blame the Vexor on low blood sugar. Certainly wasn't overconfidence. Never die cuz of that. Confidence is our badge, a measure of our righteousness. Our purity. It was definitely the blood sugar. Throw a Vexor in the cooker to build up later, grab the Myrm, head out. Only three VENT active. All in Vuorr. Can take them all if need be. Bounce around stations looking. Finally find two. Correction, find three. One just logged in. Undock, wait a few secs. And there he is. Arbane, communal fluid dumpster for VENT and also the Cane pilot from earlier today. Which coincidentally he just happens to be in now. Nice! He tries aligning away. Naw biatch, you gonna stay and play. Lock, point, web. Still got EMP loaded, but he grazed the Vexor with 425s so probably shield tanked. ACs and drones rip in hard. Well maybe not shield after all. Locks back, and he's definitely got the 425s. Flip on two of the reps. Move into close orbit. Wanna see him up close as his AC-boat dies to my ACs. 30 seconds, he's already into armor, and then two VENT undock.
Pair of Tengus. Akuma again. And Sheenra, another of their slatternly drag-queens who competes with Mia for our attention. Usually a Logi or ECM skank, odd to see her/it in a Tengu. Could still be rough. Third repper on. Glance back to the Cane, already deep into armor. Tengus unload. No HAMS. Just heavy Furies. Cuz that's always the best choice against afterburnering BCs. At least if you're an idiot. Another 30 seconds and the Cane drops. Like a 5 ISK hooker. Fitting given Arbane's position with VENT. Quick loot check. Mostly named crap. Figures. Turn back to the Tengus. Armor guage already pegged back to max. Mmmm. Looks like we can tank them on one rep. Neither has a point on us. Reckon that means overtanked Tengus. Nice as they'd be, just a waste of ammo. Especially with Logi-girl around. Pack it up and head home. We get to grin this time.

Audit Log 20100401.2211 - Early morning hunting. Barely any VENT awake. Even fewer targets. Hypons out and about running missions. But blitzing L2s so quickly can't get a bead on him. Depression. Call it a night to get some sleep. Hit station and VENT Scorp warping out. Akuma. Again. Quick tally of local. Mmmm, might be a possibility. Throw out the taunting remark, swap to the Myrm. Undock and they start coming in. Akuma's Scorp and drag-queen Sheenra in a Falcon. And they're docking to catch me at undock point? Interesting choice. Probably means Torp Scorp. A few secs and out they come. Go for the Falcon. Jammed before we can even lock. Gonna be like that, eh? And looks like Scorp is ECM cruise as well. LOL. I overestimated them. Thought it'd be smart trap. ECM + station never works. Kick on the reps, lean back, and see how this plays out. Pair of Drakes join in. Full rainbow of missile types. Yeah, that's smart. Tanking on two and half reppers and not even Exiled. But still permajammed. Sigh. Couldn't get stuck out here if we tried. Watch some vids, browse forums. Check back to make sure cap boosters filled and running. Finally getting low on 800s. Dock. Reload. Call it a morning.
Few hours later, awake rested and refreshed. Spidey-sense tingling. Hmmm. Send out our super secret spy first. And looks like they're camping our station. When we're not even active. LOL. Apparently lead by none other than their supreme commander Cmdr Khaine. Such a brilliant tactician. Got instas of course. No way we can be trapped inside. But have a better idea. We'll just let them camp an empty station all day long. April Fools.
Evening and finally decide to grave them with our presence. No more station camp. Pity. Wanted to warp out from under them. Start scanning about as VENT rallies themselves. But... not at tower? They're camping the gates now. Interesting. Bet it wasn't an idea from VENT leadership. Amusingly they camp every gate except lowsec. So effective. Decide to sit back and watch. Witty VENT smack ensues. Khaine tries hamfisted attempts at psychological warfare. Painful to read. Embarrassed for him.
Give them an hour of ranting and then show how ineffective their camps are. Zero warp to gate, jump. Gate camps not too effective on the inbound side. Need to have tacklers on the outbound. Idiots. Still, no point to this. Too many VENT huddling together. Have to wait for numbers to thin. Cloak at safe, grab some food. Return to find VENT gone and inactive. Chatlogs show they had some fun while we were away. More of the puerile smack we've come to expect. Such a classy bunch.
Run locators for stragglers. All docked. Try secret spy on Hypons. Only finished missions. Feh. Looks like the Fool is me today.

Audit Log 20100402.1919 - The criminal mind is a baffling thing. It continually whines about stations. Yet that is the only place they blob and bait at. Just doesn't make any sense. Course if they made sense, they wouldn't be criminals.
Day starts off as usual. Hunting with no results. Obvious secret spy yields even less. Maybe try some Vexor bait again. Dock in Oimmo to swap and get VENT visitors. Akuma and Sheenra, Scorp and Falcon. How original. Gonna change it up this time though. Domi instead of the Myrm. ECCM instead of web. Undock, drop Ogres. Wait half a sec and they once again try the unique "undock the ECM on top of the target" trick. Target the Falcon, overheat the ECCM. No wait, turned it off. Arrgh! Stupid tiny overheat button! Lock, point, drones away. Get off one volley from the ACs and jammed. Feck. Scorp seems to have a few changes. Less jamming, hits a bit harder. VENT BCs warp in. Get the overheat sorted. Keep trying to retarget Falcon. Jams clear. Locking. Falcon warps. Dammit. Non-consensual bubbylist says more VENT incoming. Screw this. Pull drones. Tank a bit. Dock. If only we had overheated from the start. Coulda made all the difference. Oh well.
Hours pass with more fruitless hunting. Blobs on gates or in tower. Herd thins in the evening. And then some station bait again. Sure I'll bite. Trusty Domi again. Will do the ECCM right this time. Akuma and Sheenra in system so have a pretty good idea what's coming. Undock, engage. And looks like we were completely wrong. Sheenra in a Scorp now. Guess the Falcon took too much of a beating. Hehe... wait. Akuma in a Phoon. Plus another Phoon. And now a Mega warping in. Oh not good. Pull drones. Hit reppers. More thug BCs joining the fray. Cap bottoming out. Neuts! Shiite. Overheat the injectors, time the reps. Armor denting down. Jammed repeatedly, but shooting least of our worries. Overheat tank. Armor bouncing back and forth. Love the Exile. Nudging hull. And dock.
Phew. Too close. Typical VENT smack ensues. Classy as always. Takes two attempts to insta out with the Pilgrim. Then we're clear. Criminals clear out for the evening. Try hunting Hypons again. No luck there either. But one day, one day he will be mine.

Audit Log 20100403.2214 - Day runs as usual. VENT hiding in tower and station until their numbers build up enough so they can huddle in groups. Typical criminal cowardice. Try using the super secret spy on stragglers. Turns out the spy has been burnt. Shocking! No idea how they could figure it out. Sure there's that whole contract thing, but still... it's supposed to be a secret. Whatever. In any case, day passes dull and uneventful.
Finally pulls towards evening. Thinning of VENT numbers. Culling time. Hypons out and about again. Abbadon as always. Try a few probes. Hit? Hit! Swap to Pilgrim! Cross fingers and warp. Scan enroute. Still there! Land 10km off. Still dealing with two frig rats. Heh. Biatch, you are mine! Uncloak, drones, lock. Got you! Web, point, TD, neuts. Victim tries throwing drones on us. Please. Not even T2. Make short work of them and then back to Abaddon. Some choice insults and mewling in local comms. Makes it all the more sweet. Lean back. few minutes later we have ourselves a wreck. Miss the pod, but got the lewt evidence. Dock, drop, smile. All in a days work.
Warp back just in case. Unbelievably he's there again. In a Harb. Cuz that will work so much better. Line up an approach. Then he makes the challenge. Seems the Harb is his badass PvP ship. No doubt. Unlcoak 2km off him. Standard procedure. Standard results. Too easy. Emorage ensues. Truly, I love our job. Then start the ultimate blow. Convince him it's VENT's fault. No support, no backup. They left him to die. A few hours later, he's left the syndicate. Another soul saved by the power of violence. Epic victory.

Seems I forgot to finish this up.
Audit Log 20100404.2033 - I must admit, sometimes we are surprised. VENT trying something new. Mission-running. Ravens and Drakes of course. Along with Phoons and Canes. And Basilisk support. Doesn't smell like a trap at all. Not in the least. Sit cloaked and watch for awhile. Then off to hunt stragglers. Some guy named after a hirsute fish in lowsec. Worth investigating. But no luck. Cloaked up like a filthy coward. Sissy. Bounce about after other targets with similar results.
Back to Vuorr. And looks like mission time is over. Only a pair of thugs in local. Both sitting in tower. Of course. In Drakes. Of course. Grab the Ishkur and try baiting. Only get more name calling from inside a bubble. Sigh. Try sitting in a belt for a bit. Nothing. Pointedly tell them I'm in the belt. Still nothing. FFS. Call it a night, head to station.
Checking inventory, switching ships. Then notice a criminal docking up with us. That craven little sodomite Ozec. Seems he slithered into system along with another thuggish twit. 4 on 1? Sounds about right for VENT odds. Well let's see what they got. Undock the Myrm. Only takes a sec for the deviant to follow us. In a Tengu? Oh my. Let him aggro first and it's on. Point, drones, guns. He's got Scourge Furies. With no web. Do they ever learn? Doesn't have a point on us either. Overtank much, biatch? Response takes about a minute to arrive. Drake, Drake, oh and look, another Drake. Pull drones, unlock targets. And tank. All three reppers running. Armor bouncing back and forth, but steadily heading south. Stretch neck and keep counting. Still dropping. This is one long ass minute. Nearing hull and there we go. Into dock. Followed shortly by shrill squeals of outrage from Ozec. The typical aspersions on our manhood. Yeah. Kinda lacking in credibilty there buttboy. About as worthwhile as the promise to keep me permacamped inside. Insta out of the impenetrable camp. Off to Oimmo and call it a night.

Audit Log 20100405.2109 - New things aren't bad when they're done well. VENT can't seem to do anything well. Hence their new things generally turn out poorly.
Start day with the usual tower check. Cowering inside as always. And looks like Akuma has found himself a new toy. A Cynabal. Interesting. Start up some banter in local. New ships show up. Scorp, cane, some frigs. Some start orbitting for no reason. And then a sudden announcement from the communal fluid dumpster, Arbane. Seems that they are going mission running. They are all going mission running. Right now. All of them. Mission running. Yes, we get it already Arbane. You're going mission running. And your insistence does not seem odd in the least. Thug squad warps to Oimmo gate.
Oh wait. One got left behind. And it's Akuma in the Cynabal. Who seems to be afk and lost his orbit target. And is heading outside the tower bubble. Onoez! you're so vulnerable Akuma! Puh-leez. Like we would really engage on a tower even if it weren't an obvious trap. And he's heading off-plane. So even if we were foolish enough to bite on this, we couldn't since there is no way to setup a warp-in on him. Pondering the utter fail of this when a Drake warps in at range off the tower. And cloaks. Fail. Fail. Fail. They couldn't screw this up any worse if they tried. Probably because they'd fail at that too. Not even worth watching this anymore. Hop thru to Oimmo and wave to the tools sitting on gate. So terribly bad.
Rest of the day is uneventful. Concord notice. Audit ending in 24 hours. Pfeh. Take a break, come back later. Even fewer targets around. Bounce around Vuorr, d-scanning with the Pilgrim. Thug leaves local. Was Calintus, one of their quiet creepy types. And if they leave one direction, they'll eventually have to come back. Only question is, which way did he go? Oimmo or Hag? Leave it to luck, flip a coin. Hag it is. Gotta refit with a long point though. Feels like forever but finally get sorted. In position 2100m off gate and cloaked. Love that. Close enough to jump, but just out of decloak range. Recons were made for this. (At least until the Concord Carebear Protectorate nerfs them now.)
Waiting. Waiting. Patiently waiting. God I hope this is the right gate. Still waiting. Has been like 6 minutes already. Fecking ridiculous! Just about to quit. Gate flash. Calintus hits local comms. Yes! Knew it all along! Always trust in lady luck. Decloak, drones, hot the point. He's so toast. Unless he's in a Drake. Those be can annoying. Adrenaline pumping, waiting for decloak. Just don't be a Drake. Don't be a Drake. FECK! It's a Drake. Well no guts, no glory.
Burn towards him point, drones. He tries to rabbit towards gate. Web and neuts. You ain't going nowhere biatch! He's figured as much and turns to fight. Moment of truth, he got a point or not? Nope. Crap. Heavy tank then. This is gonna suck. Shrug off his Scourges with the repper. Not much of a problem there. But not making much of a dent on him either. Any hardeners should be dead by now, but still not seeing much of a change. Lovely. No new thugs in local. Scan looks clear. Guess we just sit back, wait and see if he breaks. Slowly chewing thru 800s. Slowly chewing thru shields.
Ten minutes later and he's still sitting in peak. And we're down to one cap charge. This ain't happening. God I fecking hate Drakes. Pull drones, align and warp. Stupid fecking drakes. Dock, refit, reload, and most importantly. Go sulk. Fecking drakes.

Audit Log 20100406.0502 - Last 24 hours of the audit, and VENT got us some new targets. Atomic Knights (ATKN) joined their syndicate. Think we've impounded their ore on more than one occassion. Easy meat.
Search for targets. Possible Osprey in Vuorr. Not ideal, but better than nothing. Same luck as yesterday though. Bad. Docks up before we can find it. But there is an ATKN Hookbill. Even better! But Pilgrim would be a bit overkill. We'll go Merlin instead. Best to add insult to injury. Hop around trying to locate on d-scan. He's moving. Finally narrow him back down to station. Sigh. Always on the station. Another ATKN thug in local. Looks like a Onyx. No worries. Warp in. Time for justice.
Instead we get an f-tard orbiting at 70km. He's faster and better tanked, and he's keeping range. wTF? Point out that we'll never be able to catch him so he'll have to come to me. Finally gets a clue and timidly slinks towards us. 50km. 45. 40. 35km lock and fire. He rabbits. Overheat and burn after him. And there's the Onyx. Thug spike in local. Blob for a Merlin? A Merlin?! VENT Vaga warps in. Un-fecking-believable. Align and warp. So utterly disappointing.
Bounce around for a few more hours. Hang out in lowsec for a bit, see if they'll follow. Nothing. Quick peak into Oimmo. D-scan. And there's a familiar name in the P8 belts. That born victim Chadwick Lamar. Retriever and Badger. Heh, too easy. 5 other VENT in system. Probably a trap, but what the hell. Even if we lose a Vexor, still come out ahead. Back to Nalv. Swap ships. Insta past the pro-pirates station camping. Hit gate, jump. Still on d-scan. Warp to bookmark.
And belt is empty... Feck. Scan again, narrow. Got him. Just changed belts. Warp. 30km off, not moving. MWD, lock, drones. Bump the Badger, point the miner. Shreds in seconds. D-scan clear. Point hauler. Both down in less than 20. Scan still clear. No trap, just stupid. LOL. Nice 33mil to add to the ledger. Scoop evidence and warp. Drop Vexor off in Nalv. Saunter back into Oimmo to gloat with our mere presence. Eye the station and there's Akuma. In the Cynabal. Again. What is it with this guy? A mid level thug and he's the only one that can bring the fight. Fine biatch. More than happy to add another kill to the tally. Dock. Domi-time!
Exile? Nah. None of their BS pilots around. Handful of the new ATKN meatshields. Won't be prob. Undock. Looks like we added fluid dumpster's Cane and a pair of Drakes. Piece of cake. Drop the Cane, work from there. Lock, drones, point, ACs. BCs unload. Mild damage. Hit both reppers. A meatshield undocks in a Tengu. LOL. Onoez! They gonna PvE me! Whatever shall I d- OUCH!! WTF?! Proper fit Tengu. And this time Scourge Furies working really damn well. Shiite! Shiite! Shiite! Pull drones, unlock, overheat lows. Tengu volleys streaming. Armor vanishing in chunks. Bouncing in and out of hull. Come on baby, stay alive. Two more reds warping in. Not good. Half hull. Low slots burning up. Dock? Dock? Quarter hull. Burnouts across the board! Dock you biatch!
... Holy shiite. They killed my unkillable Domi.
VENT account now shows a credit of -235,000,000 ISK. And Concord timer only has 16 hours left.

Audit Log 20100406.2322 - Wake up late. FFS not the day to oversleep. Check clock, 4 hours left. Cannot let this audit end on a loss. Especially a Domi loss. Hop out in the Pilgrim to look about. Nothing. Wander. Still nothing. VENT keeping a low profile. Making us suffer. Bastards.
Dock back up. Pull the new Domi off the oven. Building ships with impounded ore. Gotta love it. Start refitting. Run about grabbing modules. Finally done. And just in time, VENT numbers actually building up for a grand finale. Really grand. Over 12 in system. Not gonna be able to take that on. Check the clock. Less than 30 minutes left. And then smile... We have a cunning plan.
Slam some Exile. Undock. Akuma there. Akuma is always there. Damn Akuma. Cynabal as usual these days. Pull some aggro. Fluid dumpster joins in a Cane. Tank a few minutes. Dock. Undock. Malediction and two Drakes join in. And then a Crow. And the Crow is even their idiot syndicate boss, the one and only Cmdr Khaine. Oh yes. Pull aggro and dock. And wait. And wait. And 4, 3, 2, 1... CONCORD sanctioned action over. But the audit ain't. Still got aggro on you biatchez. Just the 6 of you.
Undock into a sea of VENT ships. Most of whom can do nothing now. Start locking Khaine's Crow. Start up the reps. Scourge Furies hitting, Hurricane and Cyna opening up. Khaine pulls into tight orbit and lays on the point. Purr-fect. Finish lock, hobgobbies, ACs, and then scram and web. Speed and trans drop to zero. Time to die you idiot tool! Crow blossoms into a fireball. VENT sits stunned. Yes, that's right. I just killed your valiant leader out of hand with a Domi. And think we'll leave it at that. Pull drones and unlock. No use giving them even a fraction of a chance at another Domi kill. God knows they never gave us any. Just let those balls get nice and blue. Lumber over to Crow wreck, look inside and cringe. Standard launchers, a blaster, scram, and an unnamed T1 microwarp. Because dogfight Crow is best Crow. Such utter fail. Pose next to the wreck for a few moments. Listen to little Ozec's whining pleas to pull aggro on his Phoon. Smile. And dock.
Such a great way to end an audit.

Epilogue - Weeks later and things haven't changed much. Jess came crawling back to us. They always do. VENT getting kicked around again. They always do too. Probably more so now. End up having their Vuorr POS popped and labs taken. Feel a small amount of pleasure at watching it die. But at the same time pity. VENT will just keep having this happen over and over again. The pilots are decently skilled, but so ignorant of basic tactics and fittings. It's their leadership really. Decide to offer our help. To teach them to be able to defend themselves. It will be our greatest triumph. To turn criminals into decent citizens. But.... I am rebuffed. They are still butthurt. Can only sigh and walk away. As VENT continues in it's inexorable slide towards failure, victimization, and dissolution.
