I admit it. I tried Star Trek Online. And I even had fun for a little bit before her true nature was revealed to me. I... I didn't mean to be unfaithful. It just happened. I don't know what came over me, it won't happen again!
I promise to fly a faction fitted CNR into lowsec in ritual self-sacrifice to make ammends for my crime!
tldr; I was dumb enough to try STO. Bottom line, STO sucks, Eve rocks!

Still waiting on an epic space adventure mmo with storyline depth and more breathtaking fights and more groundbreaking integration between space combat and events on the ground, in space stations, and aboard ships. Until then EvE will just have to do. > WHILE SIG<AWESOME DO LOOP there is no escape from my crappy sig. |

Oh, god, what a terrible game...
And, y'know, it's such a SHAME! Star Trek has been, arguably, the most maligned franchise in gaming history, just rampant with crappy games, and this is just the latest insult. The real shame here is that it's perfect for the MMO space if done right...
I don't know what's wrong with Cryptic. I played CoH for five years and it was amazing, but lately it's just the same crap as every other MMO. What a waste... --- Fergus McRae

This goddamn game sucks. If a better space game ever comes out, it'll die deader than JFK.
STO is absolutely NOT that game, not by any stretch of the imagination.

Several people seemed to think that about STO before launch. It must suck to be them right now.

I played X3:terran conflict. But seriously, whil graphically its pretty good, gameplay wise... it couldn't be any more frustrating to control without a joystick, (and who has such a thing laterly) and BORING.
Not to mention the AI and path finding is horrible. Never tell ships to cover your own ship cause they will crash into you and damage/blow you up as collision does a hell of a lot of damage.
I heard a story of a person sitting in a station buying and selling the same thing just to grind up faction standing for hours, only to be blown up when he was allmost done, because the station blew up on him.
What happened you ask? A capital ship got stuck in the antenna array of the station and because its shields regenerated faster than the station itsself it basically BUMPED THE STATION TO DEATH.

I actually liked the space battles of star trek online. (Ground combat's meh). Nothing better than flying a Defiant and taking down BS sized ships with it.
If you could do that with the agent missions in EVE, I'd be a happy panda.
It's main drawback for me was the lack of content and it seemed more like a single player game that you could play with friends than an MMO.

Got a buddy pass from a pal and honestly, it's no more an MMOG than BF2142 is. It's purdy and kind of fun but it's as shallow as a redneck's bath and the ground combat is almost painful at times.
That said, i really do agree with what you say about ship combat - in many ways it's much more of a tactical game and many elements of that, combined with the already wonderful EvE, would really make this game even more fun.
Overall, I'd give it a 4/10, and the whole time I was playing it I kept wondering how much less fun this would be without the IP it's based upon.
At least the original SWG was an awesome sandbox, STO is a heavily instanced themepark and little more. .

Except the endless amounts of clicking you had to do, the space combat was better then eve. Not graphically, but constantly having to adjust shields or hide your weak side, manuever into line of fire of your targets weak side, launch boarding parties, etc etc.
I am on the STO Forums constantly #$%@^*& at cryptic for what they put out. I was so looking forward to finding something to break my eve addiction..... now I only have SWTOR to look forward to.

Mr. Owl...
How many frigates does it take to get to the center of a carrier?
