That said please view this: Eve Learning curve.
That image makes me twitch every time I see it because it makes no sense at all. Time spent playing as a function of gaming skill?! What?
Agreed. And sniped. _________

Don't you know players have bets and contest to see who can collect the most corpse for the day, week, month, etc...
So, ganking you and podding you is nothing personal. It's just business as usual.

Originally by: Kalos Beila Something you have to remember is that EVE is a world where the players make the game. Literally. Everything about this game that makes it popular to anyone, puts it in reviews and makes it keep winning awards is the content made by players. The corporations, the alliances, the massive fleet battles - not just the items crafted by players (which make up the bulk of items on the market).
More than any other game I have seen, EVE is run by the players. The gameplay is emergent and only appears when in the presence of a large community of other players. So pardon us if we seem a bit snobby but you see, we built this game. Made it what it is today.
Ive been in many corps and alliances. Ive been torn down by a know-it-all FC. And you know what? Ive learned from it. I didnt quit. I didnt give up. Mind you, I have raged and suspended my account more than once, but I always left knowing Id be back with fresh air in my lungs and ready to take on the next challenge.
The defining quality of EVE is its steep learning curve. That weeds out the teeny-bopper lvl 80 night elves whose AD-HD prevents them from playing games that take more than 10 minutes to master. If instant gratification is your thing, go play some Runescape, WoW, STO or even farmville for that matter. The other pruning mechanic in EVE is its community. Novel strategy and wits are rewarded with not dying. Being careless, making assumptions or otherwise "thinking youre safe" gets you killed. Everyone dies but the clueless die more than others. This is designed to teach you a lesson.
Dont blame the community or the game for not seeing that theres a lesson in there.
The CEOs and FC's who have insulted me the most when I started are now some of my best friends in EVE. They taught me the tough lessons that forced me to HARDEN THE **** UP.
... Youll hear that alot here and theres a reason.
This is a sandbox. Theres no minimap with a compass that always points toward bad guys. Theres no automatic levelups. Youve got to take care of everything on your own; your ship, your character, your fleet, your friends. There is no non-pvp area where you can sit side by side with your sworn enemy without fear.
Learn from some veterans and harden up and youll enjoy yourself. If not, go play something else. Not to be insulting or anything but some people really cannot play certain games. You may be one of those who is unable to play a game that requires long term thinking, planning and effort. Sometimes EVE can feel like a second job and thats not for everyone. I wont encourage you to stay if youre a burden on the community and the game isnt enjoyable for you. By all means go find something that pushes your happy button every 5 seconds and rewards you with achievements and romanceable NPC's.
This, indeed.

Edited by: TraininVain on 25/02/2010 19:24:04 The tone of replies tends to match the tone of the original post.
The guys getting told to go back to hello kitty online are generally dewy-eyed drip-nosed whingers who aren't don't really like what EVE is and/or guys trolling for angry replies by pretending to be the above (4/10 btw. Not massively original but at least you're being a bit meta- about it).
Don't come on the forums acting like a ****-head and you generally get a pretty reasoned response generally.
If anything I think the mods should adopt a similar policy and start banning people for being prats.

I was watching one of the fan fest videos where an artist was doing a ship sketch. They took suggestions from the crowd on a name for the ship, some guy made a forum like comment where the name of his suggested ship design included the word "fail". That was an embarrassing one to watch, I was not the one drawing or the one making the foolish forum comment.
It is sad to see some people who act the same trollish way in real life as they do on these forums.

My suggestion for any online game is that if you want to enjoy the game, don't read the forums.
Although, as far as game forums go, this one is among the best I have seen.
