I currently run 2 chars to run lvl 4 missions. One is in a cruise raven and the other is in a permatanked dominix. I am trying to decide whether to upgrad to a cruise CNR or a torp golem instead of the regular raven to continue duoing with. I have the proper skills to fly both well. Just looking for some advice. Thanks

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of threads on the first page of this forum, and the second page, and probably the third, and the fourth, and..........so on, that address this question very well.
Do a little bit of reading.

Well, the advice regarding the Torp Golem will raise some interesting points which you can take account of when running missions with the dominix as a duet.
The main issue is that a Torp Golem has a maximum range of about 45-50km, and you don't want to kill valuable stuff outside the 40km range of your tractors. This would imply that you can drop the Drone Link Augmentors and use railguns instead, for example.
For missions where the NPCs start a long way away or orbit at 50km+, you'll want to use the Cruise CNR. So get both, fit them for purpose. Torp Golem for many missions, Cruise CNR for the others.
When flying with a marauder, I've found it's useful to have the marauder fitting three tractor beams, with the Dominix bringing a T2 salvager or two.

Erm, Torp Golem with max skills and implants can hit out to 68.9km...

I use cruise CNR + sentry Domi and it works very well for me but if I could I would use torp golem (still need AWU 5 and have T2 cruise but no T2 torps atm) so I could fit the golem with 3 tractors and have 2-4 salvagers on the domi along with a couple of RR/energy transfer.

68.9 is just eft, in reality your looking at a 60km range. I think i've managed to hit something at 61km once or twice but it is just dumb luck over 60km if you do hit them

My question is this... Why are you using two combat ships for missions? In my opinion, you'd be better served having one salvager and one combat ship. Sure a Golem can salvage while fighting, but since you're using two accounts, this advantage isn't as large as it would be for a solo player (unless you're using two Golems!) Personally, I think a CNR for one and a salvage ship for the other would give you the best combination.
However to answer your question directly, the best combat partner for the domi would be the golem.

I just found that setting my drones to assist on my raven pilot and then just letting my domi salvage is pretty effective. The added DPS from the domi pilot seems to speed things up a good bit.

running 2 chars mission is dumb. maybe try 2 ACCOUNTS. well to the skill question. only "where is the button?"-people cant fly a torp golem. if you are with them better use a CNR. if you have enough IQ to find a agent which suites your golem i just can say:
TORP GOLEM! TORP GOLEM! TORP GOLEM! TORP GOLEM! TORP GOLEM! TORP GOLEM!
ps: if not try out a tengu

I use a repping Domi and a torp Golem and works real well. Set Golem with deadspace booster and MAX gank fit. Set domi with med and large energy reppers and medium tank (stray aggro) and the rest drone helping modules. I find it great. I then have a flight of Ogre 2's to add to the mix which helps real nice and the golem is safe being continually repped so can tank like a mother.
My two cents - also to the dude who says 68kms with torps *cough, cough, bullcrap, cough cough* - as another folks says 61kms with max skills is the best i can get. Pull my finger. |

The 68.9km with torps are the numbers that EFT gives me. I admit that I am currently unable to pilot a Golem (need to get AWU V), so I've been playing around on EFT to find a fit I would like. So is EFT plain wrong, or is that sort of range with torps just useless? Sorry for derailing the thread....

ah eft max is 58km best hit is at 40/45km CNR run misions faster golem is overrated.

The issue with the Torp Golem is not really with the range of your torpedos, since afiak most rats will be within max Golem torpedo range, but rather the range of your tractor beams which will have a max range at 40km with the ship bonus, beyond that the golems effectiveness drops since either you have to move to kill your targets or you have to move to get your salvage rather than just sit still, chew your targets up with torpedo's and swallow the wrecks with your tractor beams.
A standard raven or CNR has a max 20km range on its tractor range so you will more than likely have to move around quite a bit. This is where the Golem shines in mission effectiveness over the CNR/Raven.

I run the same set-up as you. I am going the golem route. For the tractor bonus and lower t2 ammo costs.
If you blitz missions, the cnr would be more useful.

Of course the best is have both cruise CNR + torp golem so you can switch out depending on where the enemy spawn/orbit and use the golem for full effect in damsel, etc.

61km against a stationary target, with an EFT range of 67.4
Missile Projection V, Missile Bombardment V, ZML1000 +5% missile velocity, 2x Hydraulic Bay Thrusters II, and Javelin torps with red flames painted on the sides to make it go faster.

Dont use 2x. Use 1 Thruster / 1 Fuel Cache for maximum distance.. 2 of the same are slighlty worse due to the stacking penalty.

Yeah, go with 2 Hydraulic Bay Thrusters, lose like 1km range but the extra speed is great, always been wondering why people chose 1 of each

something about our torps accelerate in the same amount of time and mine go faster.

Use your sentry Domi to run missions semi-AFK in one window, and use a CNR/Golem (depends on whether you're blitzing or salvaging) in a second window to run separate missions. You'll end up with more income that way.

I used to dualbox missions and loved the idea of having a dominix + golem/CNR... Until I realized how to properly gankfit the golem and found the domi just to be a cumbersome brick of dead weight warping around.
Nowdays I prefer to solorun the golem and just sit it out with the 2nd account, salvaging the wreckballs with it in a catalyst while the golem is in warp back to station.
