Edited by: Imperator Ceasar on 28/02/2010 11:51:52 In the next year or so, I see huge issues with balance of power where AAA, Atlas, IT alliance and etc are concerned. Here is a way to fix long term power issues and for CCP to keep Eve an interesting and ever-changing place:
1) An alliance can sov as many systems as they want, as is the case now;
2) An alliance can choose 3-5 constellations that become their CAPITAL SYSTEMS, made so by clicking a checkbox on the TCU, and either;
3) Once every 12 months a "galactic storm" runs through Eve disabling TCU's that are not the "beefed up" capital TCU's, OR;
4) TCU's that are not capital TCU's have a 12 month life expectancy, after which time they go offline and require unanchoring and transport to a repair facility where they will require 2/3rds the original cost to repair and redeploy again.
This will allow Sov to "reset" in a way that would keep large alliances in check to an extent without CCP having to institute major game mechanics changes to quash power blocks that gain so much power that they threaten freedom of empire or somehow bring a large imbalance to the in-game play for average pilots.

No, that's ******ed. The reason the big alliances hold alot of sov is because they're just that, Big. Dominion has already ****ed up the sov system so you can't actually hold sov in all of your systems, but that doesn't mean they're not yours. If game mechanics get messed up, you work around it.
Try joining an actual nullsec alliance instead of theory crafting as an upset IT pet, and maybe you'll grasp basic game mechanics and reasons for the large scale NAPs and wars.

Maybe he mentioned them because being a theory crafter with no experience, he assumed the greater blob was the one that looks bigger on the influence-map heh
e: Or it's because he's an upset little IT pet and he's still mad about their supposedly high rent costs, this is attempt to get something for free and with no work.

Edited by: Kronos Hopeslayer on 28/02/2010 14:26:23 This is the same arguement I see in other MMO's where the casual players try and find a way to force the hardcore players through game mechanics to make it an even playing field. Sorry, but if you want 0.0 sov, and all the benifits that come with it you'll need to put in the effort to take it and hold it.

Alliances have a built in feature that prevents them from becoming "all-powerful"... humans.
Human empires collapse after they over-expand. Happens every time, even in Eve.

No kidding, Baron - it's amazing how when people dont like an idea, they get upset and toss insults about instead of debating the idea on it's merits. People could be right, in the end, that alliances become self limiting because they eventually implode somehow.
In the meantime, those of us who dont have 20, 40, 60 or 80 hrs a week to devote to a game get the raw end of the deal... that's all I'm saying.

Yet,, you're using "gay" as a negative adjective like a 16 year old... Hypocrisy much?

so do most people that play this game actually. I'm enrolled full time at school, play probably 2-3 hours per day, and double that on weekends and I still maintain a social life and good grades. Stop crying. If you can't handle the commitment necessary for conquering 0.0 then don't play.
In reality, you can (and like I said, most people, the grunts of 0.0, do). You just want things to be handed to you.

Debating the merits of an idea requires that the idea has merits. Yours has none. It's simply the whining of an empire carebear that want's something without having to work for it. Further more your idea would change nothing as the large alliance would squash out the presence of any small alliance that tried to move in.

People that do not understand how humans work/play should not be allowed to post on this forum...
Limiting anything that has to do with numbers of x within alliance/corporation can be simply circumvented with making a second or third or however many alliances/corps you require to get around the numbers problem.
And thats just one thing...

i dont event want to know how many of your threads about this i have seen, in general, or here, or on caod or or or, almost daily i see you whine about the bad bad big alliances... and i believe in one of 'em i mentioned before: there is no way of stoping people to work together, actually thats what a MMO is about.
to counter your suggestions the powerblocks will split up in several alliances, which then each hold 3 to 5 constellations.
your suggestions do not make any sense.

I agree. People seriously, the guy is just telling people about his idea. If you don't like it just say so. But please do it intelligently... from reading these posts my first reaction would be to assume you're all a bunch of 15 year olds who have never.... well I'll just leave it at that. This is Eve. Try and make it a more intelligent place. Take some time to reflect on how you treat people.

i think that's a bad idea and here's why: it's terrible
if the sov drop isn't announced beforehand, it just benefits powerblocs who can call in sick whenever the cheesy 'galactic sov storm' approaches if it is announced beforehand, nothing bad will happen because everyone will have prepared for it
oh, and not to mention that alliances will just form one-man alt alliances to claim additional capital sov systems, making it the most easily circumvented mechanic ever _____________________ Horrors! Demons in the deep! |

THE RESET IDEA has a lot to do with ISK too - huge financial reserves should be equalized with a Sov reset and paying to upgrade or "repair" TCU's & blockade units or outright replacing them at full market price.
Nice ninja edit.
A big alliances of old players will always have more liquid isk and more income than a small alliance of new players. Dumbing down the game to "equalize" the playing field as you suggest won't actually change the wealth distribution in game and the big alliance will still generate more isk than the small alliance.
Your biggest mistake is assuming that simply because an alliance doesn't hold Sov it doesn't hold a system. A small alliance that tries to move into a system that a large alliance claims, but doesn't hold Sov in will be exterminated by a massive blob that the small alliance will have no chance of matching.

Originally by: Imperator Ceasar In the next year or so, I see huge issues with balance of power where CVA, AAA, Atlas, IT alliance and similar large alliances are concerned.
CVA & AAA, plus IT (BoB) have survived for a long time, yes, and good for them.
Other alliances, huge power blocks, vanished without a trace.
Have a look at this sov map from August 2007: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/Verite/20070809.png
Just two years ago: http://go-dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/verite/20080301.png
Now: http://go-dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/verite/20100301.png
These power block coalitions come and go. There is no need for any new game mechanics.
