It kinda IS all about the veldspar... I haven't done the math, exactly, but it appears that the overall yield from mining Veldspar is more effective in terms of profit than the other common ores.
Maybe I'm just imagining it, but it would appear that Chribba is entirely correct.

You have to realize that there was once a time when Trit was worth 1.5 ISK per unit, Isogen was 100 ISK per unit, and IIRC, Nocx was 300 ISK per unit, Zyd 3k per unit, Megacyte 5-7k per unit. Veldspar didn't become the best high sec ore until after around the time the drone regions were added in. Whether this was because of the influx of high end minerals from the drone regions, or because of the massive amount of tritanium needed to keep cap ship builders happy during the series of wars that followed, nobody can really say. Just realize this:
Chribba was saying it was all about the Veldspar back when Omber was king and Jaspet was worth mining in low sec for. Thus, a lot of us older players think he's insane. Also realize that Chribbs doesn't sell his Veldspar. It just sits there in his hangar. I fear the day he tires of EVE and decides to dump it all on the market.
