Since the biggest news in Eve is player-generated, it's only fitting we have player-run news agencies. Yes, we have bloggers out there, but I'm talking about creating a new "job" in Eve: The War Correspondent.
These guys will fly cloaked ships and have frapps installed, be able to get through any gate camp, and fly through and record the epic battles for sovereignty as they are taking place.
This is currently just a thought, but the more I think about it the more I think it would be a fun undertaking.
My thought is that eventually most alliances will mark these correspondents with a positive rating. Obviously not all alliances or fleets will treat them as such, so the correspondent should expect hostility from all sides of a conflict.
I'm not sure if there's a market or even an interest in getting video footage of real eve battles, so I thought I'd post the thought here to gauge everyone's response.

Interesting, but I'm not sure they're exactly what I'm talking about. If they had video to go along with their articles, that would be really cool I think. As of yet, I haven't seen any up-to-date video of actual news unless it's created by a corp that was present at the battle.
My emphasis is on the footage, and flying through the battle as it is taking place, evading both sides all while getting great battle footage of real-life in-game events.

i think it would be nice to get independent news and analysis of the null sec goings on. too often the reporting is a lot of propaganda bull**** on CAOD..
I think it would be tough to do though on a consistent basis.. there's just too much going on with not enough people willing to do the reporting. i mean really... why would someone want to do this unless they were getting something outta of it..?
good luck though.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [GNSTR] |

Considering the ISD team has routinely showed themselves to be complete morons (as well as not reporting on matter in a timely fashion),and since CAOD is seriously bad posting, having people flying around frapsing the major conflicts would be nice for those that aren't involved in them.
Alternatively, someone just needs to make a request of the CSM to get CCP to kick ISD in the arse and make them somewhat useful

Unless you have some kind of inside information I would think it would be hard to be at the right place at the right time

Well, the idea is very similar to real life embedded reporters. People sign up (or one of their alts) to be a correspondent, and they follow a tip, or if they are a part of a big alliance or corp, they go and record. If they don't want to give away their corp's movements they don't have to until after the battle takes place. Also, it's not hard to find out with a little snooping when a large battle is about to take place, especially if there is a war going on.
I guess my thought was it could be a thing to do if you don't get blown up in a battle and don't have any more battleships, so you get your cloaking news-ship and fly around recording things. Or you could set up an alt specifically for this type of job, and with minimal training you can fly a fast scout ship and fit a cloak on it. If enough people were interested, CCP might even pay ISK for footage. That's how markets are created, if there's a need. And as the game evolves over the next few years they'll want more recent footage of battles. I thought I'd start the ball rolling with a network of correspondents that is player driven.
Hell, we can finally start putting those holo-reels to use!

Well since CCP is asking alliances to let them know about big fleet battles ahead of time so they can reinforce the node the intended target system is on, perhaps ISD or any other news agency could deal with CCP to be tipped off about these reinforced systems so they can be on the spot, ready to report on the action as it happens.
Either that or they do what real world reporters do, build up contacts within the alliances that will tip them off when something is about to kick off.
