I will be getting Cruiser 3 tomorrow. I would like to get into missions and maybe a little pvp.
For missions, I was thinking of using either the Thorax or Brutix. And for PvP, Thorax.
How should I fit them? Are those ships good choices for the purposes I need them for? I have looked at different load-outs, but I need a better explanation of everything rather than just pictures of what people use..

Hi.
For missions fit an active tank, probably armor with an armor repairer and mission specific armor hardeners, you can find damage profiles for all the NPC factions here: http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=TankingGuide.
Spare low slots should be used for magnetic field stabilizers to boost your hybrid turret DPS or possibly a cap power relay to boost cap recharge so you can run your armor rep for longer.
Med slots, should be used for firstly an afterburner to increase your mobility and then fit cap rechargers to further increase your cap recharge. Possibly add a web or tracking comp to help you deal with smaller ships.
Best choice of guns would probably be dual 150mm rails on a thorax and 200mm rails on a brutix, try to get named if possible.
Rig can be either cap control circuits to assist cap stability or aux nano pumps to increase the efficiency of your armor repairer.
For PvP probably go with a pure buffer tank. Fit the biggest plate you can some energized adaptive nanos to boost reists a damage control and some magnetic field stabilizers.
Med slots should be used for a propulsion mod(preferably a microwarpdrive) and E-war, you'll need a point(disruptor or scramberler) to stop people warping away and you'll probably want a webifier to slow them down.
As for the guns go with medium blasters(probably electrons) and use faction ammo.
Rigs should be either trimark or resist pumps or possibly weapon rigs to further boost damage.
Hope that covers some of the stuff you wanted to know, if you need to know more you can make an account on battlclinic and PM me there.
