Just started a couple of days ago, love the game and ive learned a lot, but really I do not like people who come and steal my stuff, not bothered that much by it since the pirate who looted me got cheap stuff, but my question; is it possible to enjoy the game without venturing into low system secs ?
kind regards

If you plan on being a hardcore industrialist/market person, then highsec is definitely fun. This works in low/null sec as well.
If you plan on running missions in your entire Eve career, then you will quit in a couple of months.
There is no substance to the mission running, and it solely exists to fund other habits or get shiny things from the LP store.
If you REALLY REALLY love to shoot at NPCs, then your best bet is going into wormholes with a corp. That has its own dangers, though.

Yes, and don't believe the hype. The people that are trying to lure you there just want to kill you. LOL. Killmail *****s the lot of you!
Skip lowsec and go for 0.0. Lowsec space is a wretched hive of s****and villainy. Not quite hisec, (that's carebear!) not quite nullsec (I uh, I don't *like* politics! errr something... yea, that's it! )
Lowsec: Because being a big fish in a small pond is just more rewarding!

A lot of people do play this game as a trading sim and apparently find that quite rewarding. EVE's market is huge and almost entirely player run so I can't see why that wouldn't be engrossing.
But that said PVP is a lot of fun and I think merely avoiding it is a waste of your sub :D

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Enjoyment of the game have nothing to do with sec status. You have to find your passion in eve, and if you can enjoy it entirely in high sec, then that's ok.
However, I would strongly advise you to try out low sec just to see what it is like, you never know if you will have fun there unless you go there.

No.

Enjoyment is a personal opinion. I used to enjoy carebearing in HS, but once you've gotten to the point where you could likely do missions faster than a macro can because you've done them so many time, it can become stale. ---

3 years playing most of the time in 0.0 / HiSec, only time I was in lowsec was to cyno (which happened twice) and to travel through
Lowsec is under rated imo, more people should go there and I will finally explore it :) FIRST!! |

Edited by: Joe Censored on 03/03/2010 00:54:25 It depends on what you are trying to accomplish in the game.
If you want to be a little slave asteroid miner without being bothered, then yes high sec should be fine.
If you want to be a market trader then you could be happy staying in high sec for some time.
If you want to kill NPC rats at belts, then you will need to head out to low sec or 0.0 to find the good ones.
If you want to be a pirate then low sec again is where you likely need to be.
If you want to become involved in the larger fleet battles, taking space from your enemies, and in general the more advanced PVP aspects of the game then you will need to head out to 0.0 space.
All depends on what you are trying to do. Though on your first adventure into low sec, I recommend you avoid Tama

In a small frig that can get away, maybe even with a cloak, you should be fine if you stay on your toes.
If you fly solo into low sec in a larger ship, such as a BC or BS, you are asking for someone to take all your lootz!
Generally you only fly with "all your best stuff" into low sec or 0.0 when with a gang of friends. Safety in numbers. Once you get more experience with flying without Concord to save your butt and learn the area, you will better understand what is risky and what is not almost instinctively.

Isn't that the truth. I consider a T2 fit BC a throw away ship, a T2 cruiser an annoyance if lost, and losing my 2 bil isk T3 a very bad day you will see me log off from
Most likely though I would assume the OP is more tolerant of losing T1 fit frigs and maybe cruisers.

You signed up for a year and then asked if its possible to have fun in the game
Oh and you can have fun in highsec, but you can have that AND the fun in low/nullsec, so dont limit yourself.

The people replying and saying nope mostly likely dont know how to read thier map stats, use a d-scanner, watch local and all the other things that make flying in low sec safer than flying thru Jita.
Most of low sec has ALOT less people than high sec. I will take you out to low sec anytime you want and prove this to you.

Of course it is, but it all depends on what kind of player/person you are and if you wish to experience all of the game or not. There are many aspects to Eve, high sec and what it offers is but a small percentage. On saying that, if you are of the right mind (didn't say sound mind) then you can get by in empire high sec for many years.
I knew a guy who wanted to do nothing but mine, he was flaming mental though!

Everybody enjoys this game differently so you're not going to get a straight answer for your question.
If you want to exprience eve combat and this is where you find enjoyment, you won't find it as fun in high sec. Yes, you can do it and enjoy it, but low/null sec combat is far more engaging and enjoyable... for me at least.
If you want to mine the common ores, and don't mind making isk slowly, high sec is just fine for you and you'll enjoy the game.
If you don't mind doing just level 4 missions, you'll be fine in high sec.
However, anything that generates more isk, also costs more and is more dangerous to do. Low/nul sec is where I enjoy the game. It's just not for everyone. Some people take a lot of pride in each ship they purchase... I purchase my ships with the intent of putting them into combat.

Mammoth isn't for mining directly, it's a hauler to move your goods/ore etc...as tempting as the large cargo bay is to mine into Industrial ships are quite terrible for this role. Hold onto the Mammoth though as it is a good ship for hauling, just remember to never carry too much/ all your possessions in your T1 hauler as they can still be killed in high sec quite easily.
If you are going to mine solo and get into manufacturing your own goods I think the best place to start would be in a mining frigate while training up for a mining barge, jettison your ore and pick it up with your mammoth(cans last roughly 2 hours in space before they vanish). This procedure does leave you open to pirates or griefers etc but look for a nice quiet system to go about your business to reduce the risk of them messing with your jet-can. Your container will always be a white icon on the overview, if its yellow it belongs to someone else and taking from that can will give them the right to shoot you without concord intervention. Unfortunately I'm not a miner/industrialist myself so maybe someone who knows this path can give you some better info.

Sure you can enjoy the game, I had a great time in highsec when a new ingame friend told me he was leaving the corp I was in for *gasp* a 0.0 alliance. I stayed in the highsec corp until I had about 3m sp then dove into 0.0. It took a little while and lots of learning things the hard way, but if youre looking for a challenge the rewards in the end far outweigh the trouble.
So simply put, fun is relative. I was having fun in highsec, and now I am having more fun in 0.0, and hopefully i'll never leave. But as it stands ignorance is bliss, drain all the fun out of one aspect then move onto something else... -----------------------

Do yourself a favor go to lowsec and learn to survive there, You shouldn't be losing pods or much of anything to be honest with you if you're careful and plan ahead or atleast know how to make a safe spot you'll be fine. A lot of players refuse to go there and so it builds up some mystical super death zone image in their head. I joined up into a fleet of wh/0.0 players we were in the rens area and couldn't find anything to kill in a wh.
I suggest we go to amamake and believe it or not half the fleet dropped out. Don't be one of those dudes.
