Well, today I was refitting a new ship, and bought an afterburner off the market. I checked the price and thought it was 180,000 (was probably mistaken and have petitioned to make sure I was wrong). Low and behold I just spent 180 mil for an afterburner.
This is just plain rediculous, and there should be a cap on the max price you can put a good up for on the market, when the average market price is -100000000000000%.
Please everyone pod him at will!

Isn't the market window plain enough with VERY obvious and highlighted text to show how much you're paying over the odds/under the odds?

When you went through the buying process the UI tells you how much you are paying varies as a percentage against the average price didn't you notice all those 0's.

Here's an idea that might help:
Move most of your cash to your corp's account (or to an alt's account). Keep only enough in your wallet to cover operational expenses. When a scammer tries to get multimillions isk for something worth merely thousands, you won't be able to afford it. The transaction won't work even if you didn't read the "overpriced" warning popup.
my 2 cents,
Estelle, CEO of "Chez Stan"

Is it even possible to scam someone by providing them with the full and correct information?

It's not that anyone actually condones anything. It's simple common sense.
1) You go to buy something on market
2) Unless you have range set to station only, you will see the best price in Solar System and Region.
3) You click buy button and a screen pops up.
4) On this screen it tells you how much the items cost. How much it cost versus the regional average. An if you are smart enough to look further then station only you can adjust the window from lowest price to highest.
In closing there are at least 5 to 6 features in effect to prevent you from making this kind of purchase. It's up to you the player to use them. If you do you will not get scammed, if you don't then suck it up and move on, lesson learned.
An no I'm not a scammer, but I have been scammed before. Bought a 8mil isk shuttle once and another time paid for a battleship on escrow and got 1 trit. The bottom line, I screwed up and didn't check the product, so there is nobody to blame but myself.
