I know for some starbases are a way of controlling space but for smaller corps with no dreams of galactic conquest is it a realsitic way of making money.
I've looked at market prices and for a weeks worth of the required trade goods alone it would cost around 34 mill isk. Add on top of that the isotopes for fuel, CPU and power and it gets a fair bit higher.
There's no NPC demand for any of the materials I can harvest from the moons I've surveyed or for the more complex materials I can produce from them.

Dear Shifar,
I sincerely wish you the best in your endeavour to build and operate a Starbase. However, I sincerely doubt you'll be able to find a spot in 0.3- where you can leave your hardware exposed without seeing it go up in flames. Pirates, you know... Most of them blow stuff up just for the fun of it.
If you do make it happen, I'd like to know about it. Just so I know it CAN be done.
thanks,
Estelle, CEO of "Chez Stan"

There are plenty of reasons for smaller corps to band together, build and operate a station.
There will be EVEN MORE reasons to do that once lab modules get put in.
If you put a station around the right moon, the station will mine most (not all) of what it needs to operate...according to some off-the-cuff calculations I made.
Feel free to look me up in game.

There's also plenty of reasons why small corporations don't want to band together but be able to hide and operate their station regardless of numbers.

Edited by: Shifar on 27/11/2004 23:26:36 Will moons yield things like Oxygen isotopes and other such things that a controll tower consumes?.
Even ignoring the isotopes which I can mine.......can I make more then 33 mill a week from a Starbase?
