I will be abroad half of May, but I have put Caldari COSMOS near the top of my "to do"-list. I can properly mix it with doing some Planetary Interaction at the same time.

One more silly request - can you indicate which missions are Storyline missions in your PDFs? Thanks!

Edited by: Jowen Datloran on 13/06/2010 06:40:39 Update 13/06/10: I have completed the Amarr epic arc two times more and have updated that guide to version 1.0. Like others, I am having problems with the epic arcs, making it impossible for me to complete them.
J'J'J'Jita: By Storyline missions I suspect you mean missions which hands out faction standing along with the normal corporation standing increases. Those are only present in the COSMOS missions, and to my knowledge, every last mission from any agent will provide a faction standing increase. I have in fact already marked all these with a (Important!) tag, but maybe I have not clarified this in the guide introduction.
Some final missions of the epic arcs also give faction standing increase as reward, but which do and which do not seems a bit bugged at the moment (sometimes I get a faction standing increase for completing a particular mission, sometimes I do not and have to petition the GMs).
Madame Sin: I am curious about those things myself too. I think I will go and seek them out.

Edited by: Jowen Datloran on 13/07/2010 07:02:18 Update 13/07/10: After standing issues have been fixed, I have done the Minmatar and Gallente epic arcs again and updated their respective guides. I have now done nearly every epic arc mission at least once.
That does not mean I am out of stuff to unravel lore about; this is just the beginning.

Jowen, you have done a really good work so far. Currently I am in the middle of the Caldari Cosmos missions, so let me know if you need any info on them. I've already finished the hard to reach missions in Otomainen (only accessible through low-sec).
Btw, if you travel to Otomainen or back from there, you have to really be careful and use an alt for scouting. But even with scouting the pirates (the not so friendly guys from IDLE Empire) may catch you. I almost always saw a few corpses there at the gates.
A cloaky ship could be a solution for traveling but since Otomainen has no stations, you cannot get rid of the cloak which is a big problem. You can use a cloaky Tengu with the related subsystem, but then you'll not have enough firepower for some of the missions. Also, some of the missions need a really huge tank.

Funny that you mention Otomainen, as I just got my self blown up in Ihakana an hour or two ago. Did not expect NPC warp scramble abilities and set my self up as easy prey for the only IDLE member in system. Well, I guess I have to lose a ship every year or so.
Getting in and out of Otomainen has generally not been a problem as IDLE are camping the Friggi gate in Ihakana while leaving the Otitoh and Otomainen gates wide open.

No, it's not true. I found the Otomainen gate camped a few times during the last few days. Also found a few corpses flawing there. They even almost caught me there once, but fortunatly they went after my 1 day old alt for some strange reason. Sometimes they even check the number of missionrunners in Otomainen.

2 small errors i noticed in the right to rule guide for the "Background check" mission, 1. there is a 9th wave of 1-2 frigs that spawns when what you have as wave 7 is damaged and 2. the triggers for waves 4 and 6 is killing the last ship in 3 and 8 respectively, not 1 and 4.

The trigger pattern and order of spawns in that mission are particularly difficult to track. I must have done it six times now and the order and triggers seems to change from time to time. I stopped caring as the mission is not difficult to handle as long as you complete destroy one spawn wave before moving on to the next.

Hey Jowen,
Thanks for the guide.
Just wondered what your recommendations of ship types would be for the Amarr COSMOS missions. I saw in another guide they mentioned a combat ship, hauler and inty, would you also reccomend those types? For the Combat ship would an Amarr BC do? Or would you suggest a HAC?
the above is more related to the Hi Sec missions rather than the Lo Sec ones (as id imagine the LS ones would require T3 or gang?).
Cheers

Jowen, I was wondering if you could verify the amount of Faction Standings received for each Epic Arc, both positive and/or negative. I might have missed that information while looking through your Lorebook.
As I understand it, there is supposed to be no derived Faction Standings incurred towards any Faction. However, I've seen a few players post that they have incurred negative Faction Standing towards Amarr for doing the Minmatar Epic Arc.

I cannot provide specific details on faction standing increases as they appear to be bugged (still). Concerning decreases: you do not get any derived standings (negative as well as positive) for finishing an epic arc. You can lose faction standing for shooting certain ships during the arc though. Especially for the Amarr epic arc you can end up with a negative total even when siding with the Sansha in the end.
The key is not to shoot sentry and/or missile towers It is never required to kill these to finish a mission or use an acceleration gate. And destroying one gives a -3.0% penalty. Compare this to the -0.025% or something you get for destroying a Sansha battleship...

Thanks for the answer. I guess the Epic Arcs being advertised by CCP as having no derived standings is incorrect.
I'll have to make a note of that in the Faction Standing Repair Plan

I guess what it comes down to is what you mean by derived standing... Strictly speaking there is no standing loss due to gaining standing from an opposed faction (i.e. derived standing)...but there are a couple of small losses due to ship kills (not strictly speaking derived standing). So yes they are free from derived standings, no they are not free from standing loss.

I have intentionally left the SoE epic arc out of this as it is very easy to complete and I want at least one thing out there for newbies to explore.
There is some interesting lore in the SoE arc though, but I have tried to put that in the general Lorebook. But, perhaps it could be interesting to put it all together as a part of my study on Sleepers.

Just finished Wildfire last night - and here is a suggestion that I have not seen in any of the rundowns on this epic arc. Use a shuttle to spawn ambushes(i.e. surfacing) if your mission ship setup is for distance, then come back to the area to finish it.

Good advice. I tend to trigger the ambush mission in a rookie ship that subsequently ends up getting destroyed.
I wrote a specific warning about ambush for the mission 'Assistance' in the Gallente epic arc as I lost a Vargur to the monster spawn of Mercenary Overlord battleships and Wingman frigates within all too short range.

Helpful guides to be sure, good work.
One thing though (there always is): the last mission of Angel Sound, Fear of Angels, can't be entered in a Stealth Bomber. Much to my dismay, as I was doing very well up until that highly illogical barrier. Needless to say, all the other missions in the arc let me through fine. Perhaps add this if you do another update, to prevent others making the same mistake I did.

Thank you, Dropbear.
Due to popular demand and my own interest in trying to solve the Sleeper mystery, I have finished the guide on the Sister of EVE epic arc mission.
While I did not get much wiser on Sleeper or rogue drones, I hope somebody else can have use of the guide.
