So, i've started trying out the brutix as a cheap gank boat. So far it's working well as a glass cannon. Question is what drones to use.
I know you lose about 200dps dropping the hammerheads, but whats the general opinion on ECM drones instead? for solo work.

eh.. there is not a "yes or no" answer, every fight is different.
sometimes i like the drones dps, they keep shooting even if you are jammed, but ecm saved my ass more than once.

Pretty much. If you're going with a max gank shield Brutix I would personally maximize my gank. If you're looking at a dual armor rep, dual injector Brutix, I might choose to maximize my gtfo ability.
I guess it all comes down to playstyle. All options are pretty valid here.

On one hand you want hammerheads to do indeed max gank. But in the end imo the only case you want hammers is when you really want a kill very fast and then be able to move out soon. Otherwise ECM drones always the better option imo. Cruisers will be jammed half of the time, battlecruisers bit less but still often. This reduces the incoming dps from them, and also gives you ability warp out when it goes bad, either since you are still losing or because local spiked.
Additionally with hammers the first frig that tackles you kills you, even a t1 frig (well you might be lucky, but i wouldnt count on it). ECM drones just jam them easily, so you can either warp out, or mwd to drop transversal and blast them away.

I tried to fight a raven with sentries on my side in a brutix. ECM drones managed to keep him almost permajammed, but that was an oddity and usually ECM drones will only jam when you least need them.
So I prefer the gankage of medium damage drones, usually valkryes or hammerheads.

go with ecm drones. they'll basically permajam your target.

If you're HiSec suicide ganking, you want the Hammerheads because all that matters is DPS.
If you're in a gang with EWar support, you'll generally also want to go with the Hammerheads because your role is max DPS.
If you're soloing around in LoSec or in a small gang without EWar support, you'll almost certainly want the ECM drones because they are your 'get out of jail free' card.
In the end, there is no 'wrong' decision though as both are useful.
