Basically, my EVE client logs me in, allows me to choose my character, then loads up the game. I give my ship one or two commands, or click to open a window (i.e. character skills, wallet, exc.) and I lose connection to the game everytime. I am having no other problems with my system at this time so I cannot figure it out. Anyone have any suggestions?
P.S. I already tried clearing the cache file and all that stuff.
P.P.S. I am running the latest patch (the optional one) 2945.

Indeed so. I too am getting a LOT of random disconnects from the server. Very strange. I suspect 'transient network conditions' will be blamed, since this is NOT a universal problem.

Well, I've even tried reinstalling from the release cd and auto-patching to this point. That only makes it worse so don't try it.
I'm beginning to think we shoul dbe reimbursed for the times we can't play.....

I've been having the same problem, home lan being wireless. I ran a few simple tests to see if it was my wireless causing the problem and it isn't. However the EVE client itself is affecting network connectivity. When the EVE connection drops, so does all traffic on my NIC.....

I have been setting up my new pc with the same settings as the old one BUT it keeps radmoningly ( just looked and I cdt'ed again )keeps disconnectiong. Is anyone sele useing my setup with nmo problems?? if so what are your settings??
hope CCP can help fix this, I have already lost EnB don't want to lose ( shiiiit CDT'ed again ) EvE.

i was getting disconnected at random from the server pre-exdous and it's still about the same now. i done a ping trace and found i went through 21 servers / ip's before i got to the eve servers. i think the problem could be something to do with that

Mine will be fine for a while and then the following, in this order every time:
1) Cap does not reflect actual useage 2) Pause before actually trying to dock at a station 3) Bouncing off the station/gate when close enough to dock/jump 4) Unable to undock at all
Restart the game and it works fine again... for a little bit and then it's all over again. Didn't start till Exodus. ______________________ There are three truths: my truth, your truth and the truth, I endeavor to find the latter. |

I jus love it when i hit my map and it says amarr or sarum prime is unreachable.....and I also notice before this happens my cap wont boost my shields at the rate it should..or my sheilds wont boost correctly. I have pingd my own radio (wireless) and I do not hane time outs so I know its EvE. I love this game but this is gettin annoying. Like I said before EvE workd well before Exodus. -----------------------------------------------

Did a trace route to 157.157.39.10 and timed out after 13 hops. Hops 1 through 12 were solid tho. I don't get these problems with other games or my connection in general. It stopped counting them after this:

will disabling the sound, atl+control+shift+f12, did not stop the CTDs but..... I disabled the AC97 on board sound (MSI NEO2 Plat, 939 socket ) and installed a $20.00 Philips PCI sound card. Don't know if that was my problem but I have played non stop for 3 hours.. No CTDs or trouble logging in. will test it longer tomrrow.

I have played without any disconnects or lock ups for 6 hours now. Installed a cheap sound card, disabled the onboard sound which was AC97, have been happly playing ever since.
If you have onborad sound enable and are having disconnects, try installing a PCI sound card, worked for me.

I've been getting the same problem for the last couple of days. I noticed tonight that my Cable modem lost connection for a second at the same point I dropped from Eve, this happend twice. Other times I don't loose my net connection, just Eve. I recreated the problem twice by clicking on my Corp icon, as it attmepted to load the modem dropped then Eve did. I ran a ping to the last router before the Eve servers & it seemed fine, then I ran a continous ping & noticed fairly large spikes every now & then but I was still playing without being dropped. The only thing that has changed for me since this has been happening has been the times I have logged into Eve, it's been between 9pm & 10pm Eve time. Normally it's been alot earlier. My opion is that when the server has been under load it is randomly kicking people off, possibly last in first out (wild guess I know but as nobody 'Official' has replied yet then thats all we have, guess work). I hope this gets resolved soon, I nearly lost my Raven three times the other night.
My Specs are as follows: Athlon 64 3000 socket 754 Winfast K8N Mobo nForce 3 150 Chipset(disabled onboard sound) 1GB 3200 RAM (Corsair) 160GB Seagate Barracuda SATA HDD Creative Audigy Player Saphire 256mb 9800XT

It's just a very buggy game tbh, in fact I would say that this is the buggiest game that I have ever played. CCP ought to be doing a lot more testing than they are, and using code profilers to cut down on the bugs. I get lots of exceptions each time i go through a jump gate, and get lots of errors like this in my log:

I keep getting random disconnects ("Connection to server lost" or something like that). Never had it before 3106. Also, I am having problems logging in since last night. Just keeps sitting on the "Entering game as <char name>". Sometimes it gets in, sometimes it CTD's (after about 10 mins).
Rest of my Internet connection is working fine (2MB link)

Yep I'm also getting kicked off of the server regularly.
I run 2 accounts on 2 different machines sharing the same router. Sometimes only 1 account loses connection to the server and sometimes they both do at the same time. I can still browse the web and irc still works when this happens so I can only assume my net connection is fine.

I run 2 accounts on 1 machine. Before exodus everything was fine. Now when i attack another ship I always get a hard reset if I have both accounts running.
Really frustrating. Especially after investing so much time in this game on 2 accounts to now only be able to play one at a time.
And guess what they promotoed 2 accounts! and now it doesn't work for many they say nothing!

Edited by: MaximvS on 19/12/2004 14:15:45 Well it's nigh on unplayable for me at the moment. I don't get any server disconnected message, I just get unceromniously dumped back at the desktop. It only started happening since the last patch. It is definately not my connection as I have been monitoring it, it's runtime exceptions within the game. I've even un-installed EVE and done a clean re-install just to make sure I didn't have a corrupt file somewhere.
It might be an idea for others experiencing this problem to log an official bug report, or check your EVE log directory and paste the contents of some of the error logs at the end of your post.
I also get lots of these:
165 : triui.UIWindow: Window dot (0A112E78) destructor called before being Closed 164 : triui.UIWindow: Window shadow (0A123058) destructor called before being Closed
166 : triui.UIWindow: Window simplepic (0A2E2900) destructor called before being Closed ----------------------------------------------------- Member of STK Scientific [STK-S]. Come see us at http://www.stkscientific.com |

Yep, I'm experiencing disconnect problems too, but not as severe as a lot of you. I run three accounts on the same computer, and every 15-30 minutes it dumps one of my accounts--- it completely completely shuts down, no error message, no black screen, EVE doesn't even re-open afterward. Sometimes it'll go a few hours without a problem, and other times, I get dumped 3-4 times every half hour. For spite, EVE is particularly fond of dumping me when a 3 BS, 4 scrambling frigate spawn comes to mess up my mining op :-( Nothing is particularly out of the ordinary, other than the fact that whenever I turn on my mining lasers, it makes these annoying like scratchy sounds. Anyway, there's my angle of it.

I have been doing some tests with the Eve server.. here is whats going on... Eve has an EXTREME low or no packet loss tolerance.
Cable modem users will be most affected, and COX is in the process of major technology upgrade, as are many other cable companys, this process is causing some of the main switch nodes to toss there hands up in the are... you see TCP/IP packets have a TTL stamp (time to live), this TTL stamp limits the number of HOPs before a packet is discarded, when a packet is bouncing around the internet from server to node to server, its asking each server 'Hey buddy, do you know ###.###.###.###' ? and that server is like, 'yea that way!(points)' well sometimes packets take a wrong turn, because the server the packet is normally bouncing off of is like 'go ask Bob, i am answering the other 40 billion people' and of course Bob points Mr. Packet to the nudey bar, where 'MAYBE' someone knows where Mr Packet is suppose to go, but by them, Mr Packet is all out of TTL tickets, and the police pick him up and put him in the Drop Tank.
Meanwhile, Mrs EVE server is stamping her foot, waiting for Mr Packet to show up, but when he doesnt, sends Mr PacketResendRequest to Mr Packet's house to ask for Mr Packet's Twin brother to get his butt to Mrs EVE's house, at this point sometimes the First Mr Packet shows up, then Mr Packet's Twin might show up, provided Mr PacketResendReqest made it ok, in that case Mr Twin is Mr Fin! Sometimes Mr Packet's Twin is kidnappered or something, and he doesn't show up either, and Mrs Eve server decides to give up on getting some action and takes off her makeup.
TCP can be very fragile, its not like UDP or voice transit protocal where its ok to drop packets and drive on, TCP must have every single packet... if those packets dont arrive in X amount of miliseconds its resend, then if resend happends X number of times, its a error code.
Bottem line, this problem could be cleaned up with a little tweaking to EVE's TTL and resend number and tolercance... but i you want to know the truth... the programers probly kept these settings constraint keep server preformance as high end as possable... you see, if a server is talking to 80 people thats 1 thing, but if 40 of them are slow, the 80 more people behind the first 80 are pulling 120 worth of load, thanks to the server still waiting for the other 40 to reply with "Mr Packet Received"...
The other reason 'could' be possable exploits if server allowed more lag... but i dont know
Its not your computers people, its the route from your computer to the server in a state of FLUX, either its being changed, messed with, upgraded, overloaded, or the cable company higherd an IDIOT for network admin, and so on.
do you guys have any idea how much bandwidth is being SUCKed up globally by SPAM ???? its something like 20% of all of it!
Oh yea, and its time for a new internet protocal... TCP/IP is reallllly old and limited.

Ok, thats good info. just adding myself to the list.
same disconnect problem here and it seems to be getting more frequent. This happens on two different machines, but it happens on my wireless laptop much more often. I just got the new wireless laptop around the same time as the patch so i suspected it was my wireless connection or router for the longest time.
That is until i started running two accounts on the laptop and one would drop and the other would stay up. :/ When Im only running one account and the game disconnects, my wireless signal meter also drops out much of the time. Other times it even stalls out for a while and I cant interact with anything and I can tell its not lag. Quite frustating and now it is crippling gameplay as everything but .9 mining is starting to seem too risky to attempt since I just lost a large barge and have narrowly escaped several other situations caused by this crap :/
Intel(R) Pro Wireless/2200BG Pentium M 2.0 1gig ram router is D-Link and Toshiba cable modem with roadrunner isp

Yes loads of stuff like that. When I submitted a bug report they tried to fob me off with 'It's a problem with your sound card drivers. Try disabling sound...'. It does annoy me that they're still spending time introducing new stuff without taking the time to fix what they have already. ----------------------------------------------------- Member of STK Scientific [STK-S]. Same crashes here, several an hour...
Very much the same in the logs as prior posts and also using an onboard AC97 soundcard which had no problems prior to last patch, 3106 I think..
disabling audio, via audio=0 in prefs.ini, will try after DT and hope it works -- if not adding myself to the pool of those who are having this issue

Here is a simple test you guys can do, to see if its a network traffic problem (poor sound card, awlays gets blamed)
Run the game, log in, then Alt tab out... Run Command Prompt
Type Netstat -a [enter]
Look for the IP address on port number 26000
Now write that down, and exit EVE.
now in command prompt type (###.###.###.### is the IP) Ping ###.###.###.### -n 1000 [ENTER]
It should take about 5min, then when its done it will tell you the statisics, example...
Ping statistics for ###.###.###.### Packets: Sent = 1000, Received = 990, Lost = 10 (1% Loss)
To be honest, a network tech would tell you, that if you internet is good, you should have 0% or 0.01% loss, but if you have more then 1% loss, you may need to call your ISP and start complaining.
I preformed this test at 04:25 CST in Kansas, my stats where 1000 sent, 999 receieved, 1 lost, which turns out to be 0.01% loss. Minimim = 161ms, Maximum = 185ms, average 165ms.
Post your stats if there above %0.5 loss

Alina, no disrespect as I understand where your coming from and I'm sure that *could* be the problem for some with random disconnects but my problem is definately more than a latency or routing problem...
I've done networking for over 15+ years so I know a few things and what you've added to the thread is genuine and those having minor disconnects should look into it...
My problem is definately something with the sound-card. Yes I must admit using the built-in card on this MB instead of purchasing a decent one

I posted this elsewhere but I wanted to get the message out.
I have bypassed my router and connected my PC direct to the Cable Modem. I have not had a single disconnect in over 1 hour.
Seems to solve my disconnects every 2-15 minutes.
Give it a try u never know. "If it aint broke, I cant fix it" |

Yea, Routers have a bad habit of deciding the server you are talking to is stranger...
Its kinda like this, You goto a Club with Carmen Electra, the bouncer knows her, and lets her in (the information comming back from eve server, your router acknolegdes your computer requested it) but if you stray to far behind Carmen, the bouncer steps in, and gives you the push back behind the line, carmen already inside didn't see, and doesn't come get you... The router is like a bouncer, sometimes if a packet is too long, it decides its really an external incomming connection and ignores it, meanwhile you computer is still waiting, and if it doesn't send a request for another packet, the server drops you cause you time out... this is way we have PnP Port Fowarding on newer routers, that games are allowed to setup the open port on your router for you! :)
I am not saying the sound card is not the problem, but its very strange that a sound card would interfer with your computer's network connection, these days IRQ mashing isn't suppose to be a problem, and driver clashing isn't suppose to be either with direct X, but i will say this... AC'97 is a nightmare.. i made sure i didn't get one on my ASUS Mobo... Its kind of a dieing religion to have a seperate sound card nowadays, I used to sport a Sound blaster no matter what, but most (not AC'97) built in sound cards are just great! Hardware accel. support and everything.
Plus you open the door for DirectX problems every time you add another joint to your computer.
I also know from being a software developer that it doesn't matter if your code is FLAWLESS, someone is not going to be able to install it, someone's computer is going lock up everytime they run it, someones computer is gona blow up when they run it, and they are always gona assume its your software, and not the 10 feet of duck tape holding there motherboard into its case made out of plasic spoons from McDonalds, with 60 programs of spyware running the background they dont even know about, insisting there computer is the best, cleanest thing on the market with zero problems ever before this! :)
