hey all,
I am currently in the process of training my alt to be able to fly a carrier. I am approaching the point where all warp and drone skills are done and i must choose the race which to fly in. I have come down to one of two choices - thanatos and niddy. When i look at them, they have their own advantages against each other - fighter damage and extra EHP versus dual rep with bonus and a badass look(yes im a minmatar fan
Considering ill be using this character to exclusively fly the carrier only - it will be asigning fighters to my main for ratting for the most part, and going to fleet battles when requested, id like to hear what you guys think would be a better choice for me.
I was 100% niddy until i discovered the 5% thanatos bonus towards fighter damage
cheers

I'm not entirely sure but I think the 5% damage bonus does not carry over if you assign your fighters.

If you're involved in a large corp/alliance with an established capfleet, a lot will depend on how they normally use it - ask your capfleet boss about your fleet doctrine and which one he thinks will be more useful. If they just love hotdropping carriers onto hostiles at point blank range, your Thanatos might get better use out of its fighter bonus, whereas if they prefer a support role (hanging out at a POS and assigning fighters/ providing reps), the Nid will probably be more useful.
The alternate answer is 'whichever will take less time to train'.

Confirmed.
Nid is 25% better in fleets than thanny - just be sure to shieldtank it because you¦re gonna need a lot of cap.

niddy it is.. thanks for the feedback :)
Even though id get more dps ratting, i guess fleet fights is where it would matter.
And im glad to train for the uber looking one

No you won't. Assigned fighters are not affected by the Thanatos' damage bonus, as mentioned earlier. The Niddy is a better choice. ________

do you get off repeating this nonsence?
shield: 6xcpr, 1xcr, 3xCCC, CSB, 3xinvul 6963 tanked, 634.5 cap/s
armour: 3xcpr, 5xCR, 3xCCC, 2xCAR, 1xEANM 6742(7036 with dirt cheap IM EANM) tanked, 680 cap/s
both are in triage of course.

try firing exp against that ship though .... single ENAM even faction doens't give you that good resists. 32% :S
with Armor Lows 2 CAR, 2 ENAM, 2CPR Meds 5x CR
give you Tank : 8600 Cap/s : 516
lowest resist 47%
OR
Shield Lows 6 x CPR Meds 2x Invuln CSB SBA CR
Gives you Tank : 7600 Cap/s : 634
The Tank is less, But you can Overload Invulns which give you
Tank (Overload invulns) : 8927

Great to see you not contributing to another carrier thread. No response eh. Better cap/s, better tank.

If you haven't got both Gallente and Minmatar BS skills to V, also take a look at the battleship lineup to base your choice on. Would you rather have a max skilled domi/mega/hype or phoon/pest/mael?
Beyond that I'd pick the Nidhoggur (I'll admit i'm partial to it) for its versatility. It can do well in both armor or shield spider tanking roles. I find a damage bonus on a support ship quite worthless myself, even more so if most of your damage dealing will be dealt through assigned fighters, because you don't get it.
However! Considering the Hel doesn't have much more than good looks atm, should you ever decide to get yourself a supercarrier the Nyx is way, way better. And that is a big understatement.

Your shield fit is sub par, you need to replace an invuln with a SBA for close to 1000 more dps tanked. The shield fit also has more ehp than the armor fit and has the option to overload invulns to peak to 9k dps tanked.
Here's a fit that tanks 7800 dps before any gang link effect.

The added resists of the shield tank make it superior in a capital gang. One resist mod on your armor tank is not enough. Local tank in fleet is largely irrelevant. ________

Just saying, but this isn't a blanket 100% true. In triage the shield fit is better definitely since it has the solid local tank but better cap, but since carrier blobs and fleets are mostly armour tanked the pantheon fit armour niddy with no local reps is equal or better in some situations. Likewise if your station hugging out of triage, having eccm and/or a sebo is necessary a armour fit is superior in this situation.
CPU is also a problem with shield fits. Like most fittings which is "best" is situational. There are very good fits for both shield and armour.
But niddy Vs thanny unless you plan on hot-dropping people with your carrier and want max dps the niddy is better. Also if you are planning to work towards a mom/SC then the Nyx is 100x times better than the Hel, unfortunately.
