Originally by: SabotNoob I haven't mined ice yet but was wondering if ice mining is more profitable than asteroid mining. I know there's different types of ice but I'm just asking in general.
Also, I was looking at the 2D map and observing the numbering system on security status for each region in general. I know anything below .5 is fair game for jumping others and being jumped.
What's the difference between .6, .7, .8, .9, and 1.0 systems? I don't think I've traveled to a .6 system yet, and I remember getting attacked by some NPC ships in a belt in a .7 system. Are there just more NPC enemy ships in the lower end of high security systems?
Thanks
Ice mining is a fools' game. Macrominers and people who do it semi-AFK all day drive the prices down so far that the profit is marginal, for a reasonably large investment in ships, skills and mods. Plus, with the ten-minute cycles on ice miners, it's INCREDIBLY boring, even compared to the questionable "excitement" of mining asteroids...
The differences between the various "shades" of highsec: In 1.0 or 0.9 space, there are no random NPC pirates in asteroid belts. They DO show up in 0.8 space, and get tougher with lower security statusses. Although even in 0.5 space they're limited to frigates and are no threat to any miner paying at least a LITTLE attention. The other big difference is in the response time CONCORD takes to show up after player agression. I'm not positive on the numbers, but they rapidly increase with falling sec status. (Note that this does NOT make you safe in 1.0 systems... It just means the bad guys get only one shot, two at most... But if they're in WTFBBQ gank fits, this'll be more than enough.)
Difference 3 is for the mission runners amongst us: The same mission from an agent of the same quality will pay MORE (in reward, time bonus and loyalty points) in an 0.6 system than in a 1.0 system.
There's some other small diferences, like the fact that you can't anchor highsec POS structures in 1.0-0.8 (?) systems, but these are unlikely to be of much concern to you.
NOt only all that, but according to show info, one unit of ice takes up 1,000 M3... Welcome to EVE. |
