Im thinking it is, ccp hasn't produced much about it really. For example...
1. How will it integrate with eve? 2. What consoles will it support? 3. Will it have 60 dollar intro pricing? 4. How will it affect the eve universe gameplay wise?
Im sure its in dev, but its probably like ambulation and atmo flight

1. It integrates into eve with Planetary Interaction. You'll be able to hire Mercs (Dust 514 players) to attack other people's settlements/infrastructures on planets. Low-sec and 0.0 of course, hi-sec is probably a no.
2. No word on what consoles support it yet, but I'd assume Xbox 360 and PS3 would both be supported.
3. Probably will have a 60 dollar intro pricing, although it would be smart of CCP to reduce it considering I believe they want to do micro transactions ($1.99 for upgraded weapons etc.) and lowering the initial cost would benefit them.
4. See #1

After watching that gdc interview with nathan I'm starting to think icelands financial woes have hit ccp a bit harder than they are admiting. Not hard enough to kill eve but maybe hard enough to make them cut back on all current development projects and so take the "oh sorry marketing will kill me if I told you any real info past yes we are making a game and it will be zomgawesome promise!!111".

Edited by: Frozen Corpses on 16/03/2010 04:35:27 it will most likely have no effect on the eve universe at all. Like faction warfare, it will only effect stats that were added with the expansion. It will probably be exactly like the game MAG. Where theres no real objective like there is in planetside, just stat padding until the 7 day cycle starts over again. yay! caldari owns the most planets... now what
And like Faction Warfare. Theres no racial bonuses, advantages, fee's waived, extra experienced gained, station gains...
And of course, doing lvl4's in motsu is way more rewarding then lvl 4's in lowsec enemy FW space which is 15 jumps away. With CCP's track record, Im sure they will figure out how to be the 1st ever developers to integrate carebears into a FPS game.

3. I am pretty sure CCP said at Fanfest that they would be no initial charge and free-to-play - microtransaction supported revenue plan.
They have not confirmed PS3 support, but the GDC announcement of support for the new Sony controllers ...
My interpretation of what they said was while there were certainly many ideas for the future, they were trying to make Release 1.0 quite distinct (different games for different people) from EVE; certainly that would be the safest software development. (feature creep is hazardous to ship-dates) Having been in some long-march-to-Hell software development projects, I would think that the safest Dust 1.0.0 project plan would come out with a product that leaves the EVE community loudly complaining about the lack of integration. OTOH, EVE players will complain regardless.
But what do I know; perhaps some beleaguered CCP marketing/product manager will be along to dance around these questions. |

Given the hunted look nathan had in that gdc interview every time he was pressed for any info at all past 'yup we be makin an fps' I seriously doubt we are going to get any real info for quite a while..

??? Really, you think this and are not permastoned ??? Really ??? Oh...I get it, you have no economic knowledge whatsoever!
Aha! Time to bring in my little friend:

Hi there, I'm econbunny and I'm here to explain why companies with an expanding global customer base do even BETTER in a global economy when their home country's currency is devalued.
Flowers and lollipops!
When the Icelandic Krona loses purchasing power abroad, that means that you can get more of them for every dollar, euro, and pound!
Pink umbrellas!
Now CCP is paying its employees "less" and paying "less" for operations and goods in Iceland. Meanwhile, their revenue has been growing.
Red licorice ropes!
Regardless, CCP is in an investment-driven expansionary period. They're supposed to be barely breaking even.
Monkeys with cute hats!
More to the point, wtf are you talking about?

You're supossing they're such morons that they inmediately convert all their EUR and USD income into ISK...
Anyone with half a brain will keep all their assets in strong currency, converting only the strictly necesary into ISK and only when needed (every month to pay wages and rents) avoiding having any "real" amount in such a volatile currency...

When a countries monetary unit is devalued, everything in that country costs more of it's monetary units to purchase. If employees in that country are not financially compensated (getting a Raise at work) for the devaluing of their countries monetary unit, then they end up struggling to make ends meet, or worse case, fail to make ends meet at all.

no, alice seemed to have been working under the assumption they did that. My post was a counter-point to that, implying it would be best if all liquid assets were left in foreign currencies to prevent problems that alice said. OHGODS BELOW THIS LINE IS MY SIG !!!! SRSLY! ok, im going to bite at the troll
-360 and ps3 versions have been known about for ages, if you cant be bothered to go read shut up -there is no pc support, its console only, get over it -it will interact as we hire the dust players to take out things on planets to cripple enemy supply lines etc -probally, its a standard console game, so price accordinly -it will make eve interesting, as if alliances have more dust players they can simply outgun the oher side, but if the other side has more tactical and experiances players, things may not work with just numbers
