Since black Ops can't even warp cloaked give it a mod that puts up a bubble with 10k radius that cloaks everything inside.
It can either cycle fast and each ship has a decloak delay, or cycles slow (5min) and uses some kind of fuel.
This would get some black ops kills on the killboards. And this can be the cloaking thing that requires the cloaking skill to be trained to 5 since nothing else does.

I very much like this idea. I proposed something similar before, a 'cloak bubble'
I believe having this only on BO ships would be an awesome move. /supported.

It's a pretty cool idea, I can see a lot of benefits. This might even be something that could inspire some of the carebears to come out to nullsec since you could cloak up the fleet if you're paying enough attention. I wonder if it would have to specifically exclude capital ships. "Aghast the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is." |

+1 I like that Idea, would make the BO's really usefull for small-scale Warfare, and would make the Savespot's saver

I have to admit that I like this idea. A small sphere of invisibility to all ships within X radius of the black ops hull sounds like an interesting and useful mechanic. The only things that need to be weighed carefully are actual effective radius, when the cloak effect will expire, which side effects, if any, apply etc. What I don't want to see happen is ratters having a black ops buddy ganged up with them in system that they warp to in order to hide from everyone they don't like in system without bothering with a cloak of their own.

What's the point when every ship the BO is designed to work with already has a covert cloak? Oh wait... you want to use it with normal ships. Thus making it a support ship for normal ships, which would end up only being the only way it is used, and thus completely bypassing the supposed role it was supposedly meant for... supposedly.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy with the way BOs are either. They do need alot of love to make them more worthwhile. However turning BOs into a ArtyPhoon-ambush machine probably isn't the right direction to take it.

Honestly the Blackops has nothing going for it as is, the skill trains are asburd, the cost to fly one and all the skills is just awesome and not in a good way. And yet it can't warp cloaked. It has less shields/armor/hull then a raven or scorpion, and no military power bonus other then it can jump things... so what... I honestly will never use this ship for anything because its too costly and its a waste of a skill train.
And how would having an ability to cloak ships around it bring carebears out to 0.0? Do you all read what you type. I can see it a bonus if your rendevuing with a group or hiding it out, but i would imagine the target delay would be there after cloak fail and it would reduce your speed and this would give no advantage otherwise. I'm also betting it would have a area of affect that woul be assainign like only useable 20km from gate and not useable in a pos blah blah. More rubbish idea's that still won't make this ship practical.
This is how a blackops would be practical, give it an absurdly high scan resoltion bonus, boost its shields, give it some resists, add a cloak while warping, and whola. This would scream black ops. Nothing about the ship as it stands screams "black-ops" more like covert jumper planner.. I think a jump friegther is more practical in the end then a blackops.

Sure why not +1, black ops need to be proliferated across more of the player-base. Funfact: There are less active black ops ships than titans (!)
BUT if anyone has played starcraft, remember the Protoss Arbiter?

I think black ops arent really broken. They do what they are supposed to do, which is to teleport OTHER ships around to gank people. The only problem is they cost 800 million each and they are rather crap for a stand up fight.
The lack of covert ops cloak should not be an issue since they are a jump or two away from the fight and just standing by to teleport their gank squad into the hostile system where a Covert Ops cloak fitted recon ship will have tackled the target and lit a covert cyno.
So CCP has a ship that can do what is intended for it to do...its just too expensive and takes too many skills/time to do it. So thats why almost no one even bothers to train the skills/buy the ship/get the fleet together.
Unless CCP is gonna drop black ops prices down to 1/3 of what they are now, then they may as well give them this crazy ability to create cloaking bubbles for anything nearby.
I have black ops V and all the skills trained and tbh its a total waste. May as well do this...

i loved the arbiter for its hiddy sneeky aproch and its i turn you into glass effect, but im hoping that the BO would cloak as well as they when armored have paper for protection but this would finaly give a reasion to use a BO more than once every year just to clean the dust out of the engine

We shall call this, "The Visibility Curtain"
I can see it now, 1 black ops with a visibility curtain of 10km, and within that 10km 17 titans and 4 Motherships all to gank 1 passive tanked drake at a gate XD --------------------------------------------

Maybe it needs a ship size limit too

Edited by: Sig Sour on 23/03/2010 22:18:32 With current mechanics, this idea has a bit of a problem.
How do you "decloak" with a proximity mechanic when the mechanic you are proposing would be proximity based cloaking?

Not Supported.
All that BO's need to make them correct is to increase the range of their portals / jump drives and lower fuel costs again by a minimum of 50% to both.
They do NOT need a covert ops cloak or an uber mod that makes all other ships cloak up.
If you want them to be "actively" used for pewpew, then boost the scan res a bit and the hit points. With the no targeting delay after de-cloaking they currently have - they are decent enough for surprise ambushes - just too paper thin for most people to risk using them (Redeemer being the notable exception here).

I support this Idea. +1
As for the people complaining about the insane skills to fly one, I don't think they're that bad. Sure I wish they would be lower train times just so I could get in one right now =), but for a jump drive, cover jump portal, being a T2 Battleship, and cloaking bonuses it's not too bad. It's not like your training some crappy skills to fly it, they are all useful for the most part.

That's what I've long argued here. The basic ship bonuses are fine (save maybe the sin's agility bonus) but they need an across the board buff to HP, jump range and fuel usage. The redeemer also really needs another 100 cpu with all lvl5 skills. A recon level resistance bonus is also welcome. But that's it really. It's not a fancy fix, just a very practical one.
I'd love to use my redeemer for covert ambushes but with less tank than a plated harbinger and only marginally better dps, it just isn't very appealing. At the moment it's a non cov ops cloaking glass cannon minus the cannon. I have some limited uses for it, but none of them involve using that dark blood warp disruptor I have on it. And that is a real shame.
Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

I suggested a version of this somewhere as well as a possible T3 Battleship subsystem/mod. Mine allowed any ship within the bubble to be cloaked, but the bubble itself was visible like your own cloaked ship is.
A wavering in space that can be detected visually, but no other way.
This would bring positioning and light sources/refractions into play, as well as distance from likely observation points.
While the cloak bubble would be a great toy, I still believe that the BO just needs range tweaks, fuel usage tweaks and a covert ops cloak.
No DPS or resist tweaks. Keep it fragile to keep gangs of BOs from forming and rampaging around. That is not its job as envisioned by CCP. We have a plethora of gank ships already.
The BO is not supposed to be a ganker or a roaming DPS machine. It is supposed to do one job; like a logistics, freighter or bomber has one job. It just cannot do it very well right now.
