There's been a lot of hurf-blurf over the meteoric drop in ABCM value since Dominion/Wormholes. Ideas have been flung around regarding decreasing supply, npc buy orders for minerals, etc. The Commies square off with the Capitalists and wackiness ensues.
I think one idea most people could get behind though is making NPC items such as robotics, quidance systems, etc player producable and removing the NPC sell orders. I have no idea how to balance this, but each item could use a very small amount of mega, zydrine, or morphite along with larger amounts of the more common minerals. This is really the best of both worlds as it would: 1) increase the demand for minerals and 2) make the eve economy more player driven.
I did not come up with idea, I believe I read it in one of the threadnaughts, I just figured this deserved its own thread. Of course this whole idea would be pointless if CCP plans on making NPC items producable on planets.

The problem is what you want to support: - high end pirces? - low end prices? - general mineral production?
Depending on your goal the minerals used in the end products will change.
So while more mineral sinks would be a good idea the problem is deciding the quantity of the different materials that should be used for the different items.
Widely used gadget A that use 10.000 tritanium and 1 zydrine will push for higher priced tritanium,, widely used gadget B that use 1 tritanium and 1 zydrine will push for higher priced zydrine.
Balancing that will be a pain.

From this, the test server and a simple 1 + 1 = darwin calculation. I'm thiking PI will cover all this crap.

You would not have to remove the sell orders. If mineral prices are too low, then no one will buy from the NPC sell orders. They'd manufacture themselves or buy from a player that was undercutting the NPC price. If, however, prices for minerals were to get "too high", whatever that means, then people would resume buying from NPCs and remove that mineral sink.
The NPC buy and sell orders become the self balancing mechanism. |

So I was half asleep when I wrote that and although I did note it in the OP I'll agree with other posts that there is a high liklihood that NPC goods will be what PI is all about. We won't know until the next dev blog about it though.
As far as what mineral prices its meant to support (high ends or low ends) the answer would be 'neither'-I don't know how many more minerals would be used up in producing these items but practically it wouldn't be enough to significantly dent the ABCM fall or any other mineral market. The idea here is not to fix the entire system with one change but to take baby steps to increase demand for minerals. |
