ú15 a month. Lets ballpark that I average 1hr a day.
15/30 = 50p/hr entertainment.
Compare that to movie (ú5/hr), beer (ú3/30mins), game of tennis (ú8/hr), hooker (ú200/hr)... you get the point.
eve is good value for money imo!

i pay cash, because I need to work 3 hours to be able to afford it (so I am not going to grind 10 hours for GTC) but I pay with ISK (from time to time) because I have quite a lot of ISK too __________________________________ I do it myyyy wayyyy... Milky Way. |

Like others have said, cost per hour entertainment is extremely good value compared to other activities.
Thanks to Eve, I can save and still get entertainment on tap.
I suppose this must be my sig. I'll do something cool with it eventually. |

You ask,
Quote: Why is it worth to pay the 15quid to play eve?
Well the answer is buried in your statement. It is worth playing because playing is fun. If EVE is not fun to play, the customer leaves. Once you start thinking about it however, things become more complex.
Differences of opinion What one person might find entertaining is perhaps mindnumblingly stupid to someone else. For a demonstration of this, please view the EVE Online review by game critic Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw of Zero Punctuation fame.
Not for everyone The very aspect of a persistent state game world does not appeal to everyone. They might still be willing to pay X realworld moniez every month to play, but they still like their games to have a beginning and an end. X-Box live and similar online game credit stores depend on return business as much as CCP does for their MMO. Having just one product (game) and a set monthly fee does put more demand on the developers and distributors alike.
What makes me play EVE? EVE was concieved as a single world rather than the avatar-base, illusion of choice-type MMOs out there (you know of what I speak.) One world appeals to me.
I like the space setting. Though it has been kiddified over the years and some of the grit polished off (Why hi there HDR and BLOOM,) I like the dark and forboding future it portrays. I mean... Lasers man! Lasers!
Death penalty is set at NORMAL not BEGINNER as in most MMOs. One can argue for years, but fact remains. People simply try harder when they have something to loose. That (generally) makes for a more challengeing interaction between players.
Player markets. A huge selection of stuff and annoyingly complex ways to maneufacture (craft,) appeals to me. I like the way the market has developed since the game started in 2003. Some other games have the mechanics of a free market but lack balance and content. In many online games the crafting systems are rarely used to make anything but a few different items. In EVE you are bound to find someone, somewhere that makes what you need - not just some NPC seeded market.
Scale & Scope in the community EVE is large. It is larger by far than any other game world. Sure other games may have more subscribers, but those are fragmented across two or more shards. One EVE world makes our community special. So special in fact, that EVE recently got an award for having the best community of any MMO. Sure awards are a dime a dozen, but in this case, I think those who awarded it are right to reason as they do.
Developer vs. Distributor Right from the beginning it was clear that CCP had a vision for EVE. A vision that was almost destroyed by the distributor. Once they got rid of all the morons on suits, the company managed to grow a lot. That must be an objective measure of their succes. Taking ownership frees the creative develpment. CCP no longer have to reason with moneymonkies to get the resources to complete an essential upgrad. Though they still have to reason with the bankmonkies which is just as bad.
Why pick an MMO with a monthly fee over a singleplayer game with multiplayer capacity? For me, it is because I like the notion of persitant state universes. I log off, sleep, log on and the game has progressed without me.
I think of the money I spend and compare it with a trip to the movies. Then I think of all the morons who text or chat during the movie, and then I decide that spaceships are more fun!
Twice a year, CCP also give me a new game (or exansion if you like.) I end up spending as much on EVE as I would have if I bought five or six console titles, and a fair number of those are crap. With EVE I know what I want, what to expect and where to pay for it - it can all end in a month though
