So C&C 4 is out and getting bad reviews. Judging by how much cash EA has to bribe reviewers (see RA3), to get bad review it must be horrendous.
Is it as bad as they say? Anyone play it? |

Its Command and Conquer in name only..
I was at a moment of weakness buying it while picking up my pre-ordered GOW3.
after having to jump through loops to actually play the gameinstalling, then installing the EA downloader, then entering the code for the game (again) after i loaded into C&C4, i was really really disappointed. But thats my opinion.

Also, after reading the spoilers, plot is utter **** that the writers should bear eternal shame on their souls for even considering, let alone producing. Oh well, I won't be buying, more money for me \o/
edit: also, game review sites make me lol, what with their "we appear to think this game sucks, but we aren't paid to have standards so 7.5/10" |

Edited by: Meiyang Lee on 19/03/2010 08:54:42 Unholy amounts of grind to unlock units for both sides (since you only start with a handful of different units per Crawler type).
Haven't tried the campaign yet, want to level up a bit before I do so I have more options.
no Economy, no base building (aside from defences as a Defence Crawler), just a unit cap.
Multi-player is basically tuned for 5v5, rushes are abound obviously, but not really an issue since you can only build units anyway. Fun drop-in games though, but don't see it as a long term thing. Loss of a crawler is no problem as you just respawn after 30 seconds or so (can change type of Crawler too). Battles are about points, rather than to the death.

Apparently theres only 7 missions for GDI and 7 for NOD.
I've also heard that the mission briefing vids were the worst ever in C&C (and thats saying something when you look at RA3). They're not even trying to hide the bad props this time , the "portal" at the "amazing end" looks like its just drawn on a whiteboard or something.
And the "Amazing ending to the Kane storyline!!!!" is totally and utter crap. |

It has the same problem as DOW2, ignore the title.
The skirmish and multiplayer modes which I experienced over my friends, are actually fun, if you're willing to look past the fact it's a CNC game.
The lack of resources and what-not just makes it a straight up combat RTS, it's like they wanted to do Company of Heroes/Dawn of War style capturing points, without the resources. It's an interesting result, but it's ruined by the fact it's going to be the last game in the CNC list (the studio is now completely gone so don't expect much support for it either)the other downside is that the units and graphics are just bloody awful, they took the RA3 route instead of the CNC3 route and it looks terrible because of it.
EA have tried to experiment with it and gotten the result, the game does work, especially in comparison to the ageing form of CNC but the result is just a kick in the balls to CNC fans.

indeed from what I've seen, it does get that feeling, like C&C Generals (meaning, good game, but not C&C). |

Yup. SupCom2 would be a better than than DOW2 for my post. Generals was good fun though. Tactical Nuke MiG spam was glorious. |

It really aint anything like the earlier C&C. you do not build bases, you only build units from que, you can select 3 different approach. Attack, defence, logistic. attack is you can pick all vehicle and units to attack with. Defence is more infantry and defencive structures. logistic is quite franky what it is. I only bought the game so i would see the ending, takes some time to get there though. :p |

Despite being a C&C fan, I want to see C&C4 to be buried in the ground where it belongs. Changing the whole concept of the C&C series (build bases, make armies, management) to something that.. that.. I've got no words to describe it. C&C3 Tiberium Generals was still tolerable in my perspective, but RA3 and C&C4 are completely Frankenstein-like.
Absolutely horrible idea of EA to do this, I hope EA becomes defunct.
Please note this down: Make a time machine, go back in time and kill John Riccitiello, the CEO of EA, with a tesla-handshake. |

You see, the problem here is that Westwood is dead. IIRC, the developers moved on to other pastures. The people developing the game now are in no way related to the good old days, except for the fact that they work for EA who has the rights to the title. |

Oh my Gods, I just did this. These were the stupidest, sappiest, boringest vids I have ever seen. I hate you, EA, I truly, truly want to see your base crippled, your fields destroyed, your infantry munched up by the glorious armies of Kane for this, this abomination.
Its got bloody palm trees! Palm trees! This is supposed to be a planet nigh inhospitable and riddled with Ion storms you stupid, background-destroying ****s! |

I did this, I could almost see the disappointment in Joe Kucans face. Awaiting all that epic CGI at the ending cut-scene, and it looked like it had been done in pencil.
CCP should hire Kucan so we can have an evil emperor of the Minmatar.

I have read that this was supposed to finish Kane's storyline. Does it? If you, is it executed in a manner worth "acquiring" the game for?

Idk, I thoroughly enjoyed Universe At War, it was buggy, and sega wouldn't pay for them patch it so it died, but while it was around, it was one of my favorite RTS games.

Perhaps this is a chance, CCP if you want to make an eve movie you should embrace the cheesiness of the early C&C videos. I would go even a step further and salvage Joe Kucan from this trainwreck and give him a role as charismatic, evil Gallente President.
