Edited by: Adabuesi on 20/03/2010 05:08:14 Ok, so ive been away for two months so sorry if this is the dead horse getting another uppercut.
I've been playing STO (Star Trek online) for the last two months, and after dealing with the way cryptic/Atari run things i felt compelled to post and tell all the employees at CCP thank you!
So thank you devs, testers, marketing everyone involved in making this a great game. I know we have had our problems along the way (T20 Boot.ini Nomi nom!) but your customer service and your respect of your player base far exceeds that of at least one of your competitors.
So a big thank you i will never take you for granted again, and i promise to call the morning after!
Thanks for your hard work and for making this a GREAT community/game. Ada |

I'll second this. Although my account has been active the entire time, playing STO reaffirmed my belief that CCP drive EVE in the direction in which the current players want it to go, rather than what they think the mass market would prefer.

Great question lol. I think I lasted a week. Even though I love Star Trek, (well maybe not DS9 that was a bit dull), STO was a bunch of instances cobbled together cack. To say I was disappointed is indeed a massive understatement.
The devs here are good, not perfect by any means, but you really do appreciate what you have when you try to compare with other mmo's ------------------------------------------

Edited by: Jesse Fergasion on 20/03/2010 10:56:17 I liked the game play in STo, i know im strange but i really did.
But i have to agree with the OP, a few days after the game was released it went on sale and had 60 days of game play opposed to 30. I let this slide and continued to enjoy the game. Then they announced that if you purchase some MMO magazine you will get a code that you can redeem for an outfit that was advertised as an exclusive deal for buying the digital download version of sto. Then it got REALLY bad:as a special perk the people that forked up 300 US dollars for a lifetime sub will now get, a lounge that only lifers have access to, a chat channel only lifers have access to and front of the line "cuts" for login and support queues.
That is when i had to draw the line, It completely baffles me that a company will willing segregate their entire player base.
It was my first time playing a cryptic game and i assure you i will never make that mistake again.
/rant off
EDIT: (posting with an alt due to i know im flamebait for saying i enjoyed sto )

Atari can make some pretty ****ty business decisions but the MMO's that suck are mostly Cryptic's fault. The only way your post could be better is if you sent me large multimillion ISK sums immediately. |

I have my quibbles with their reimbursement and a few bugs and stupid mechanics but honestly the most important thing is like you said. They care about the customer and they are taking EVE to a place the players want. They know that EVE is a game that does not appeal to the masses and yes they could make it generic and bring in more players and more income but they choose not to because they want their customers to have a unique gaming experience. The fact that since its inception EVE has developed and evolved more than any other game on the market and has continued to stay true to its originality. The other fact that CCP has put out expansions for FREE every 6 months with game changing content and new concepts and completely updated the graphics engine on a budget 1/1000th of Blizzard is incredible and on its own deserves a salute.
So to you CCP. Thank you for not being like every other greed stricken company and snubbing your customers so that you could make the extra buck (or Isk I suppose it would be )

Exactly. Look at Turbines games DDO and LOTRO. Both produced by ATARI and both excellent games but very different. DDO is an amazing game but due to poor marketing and the segregated D&D market they chose to make it F2P due to low subscribers.

DDO failed because it was too instanced.
It was a fun game but it felt too small and meaningless. I leveled a few characters up in it and that was it. I also did not like the integrated voice com forcing me to use it for every single little random group i joined when i would much rather be grinding away my repetitive tasks listening to my musics or audio books.
lotro is a more traditional mmo which is why it worked, the lotr fanboys helped also.

Ask anyone from the 'mass market' what they'd like to be in a space MMO, and chances are they'll say "I wanna be a pirate!". EVE caters to them, the lowest common denominator, while other space MMOs just milk franchises.

What do you think about newbies (that show complete lack of understanding of even basic game mechanics) that come here and tell how eve should be after someone wardeced him?
Those guys also fail to see what happened to that one popular mmo when the masses wanted to ruin that game!
Then they go mad because people don't like their suggestions?

Now, you do know that mentioning other companies is not against the forum rules, right? If you're of a different opinion, would you please point to the paragraph that made any of the edits you made necessary? ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Don't worry, since CCP can change the rules at any time without warning, you can probably expect a C+P of them here soon.
Meanwhile, please don't refer to SNOWSTORM or GLOBE OF GOBLINS or something terrible might happen, like constructive criticism or even compliments arising from a comparison.
