Originally by: TheBlueMonkey saying that, I've never read any of the eve books, not much or a reader in general (it's the graphics), where's a good place to start with the eve books?
I would say start with the chronicles and if you don't want to read them all from the bottom up, at least read the Black Mountain series as that will give you a good idea what the writing style is in EVE: The Burning Life.
There are only two printed EVE books btw:
EVE: The Empyrian Age EVE: The Burning Life

Why not? Are you really saying you only by books for an e-reader?

Originally by: CCP Abraxas Tony's book was amazingly good space opera. Given the genre in which he was writing, he absolutely knocked it out of the park. My book is very different. If you liked the Mercenaries, or even better, Black Mountain, chances are you'll like The Burning Life.
Yeah. It was good "Space Opera", at least if you, OOC, believe that the Gallente Federation are the be-all, end-all of goodness and light, and that Eve is "Space Opera".
Too bad, then, that they are not, by canon, and that Eve is film noir in space. Space Opera is all about grand struggles of good and evil, black and white (red and blue?) set against each other. Eve is about moral ambiguity and cultural conflicts set against a background of grays, which is why I prefer your chronicles and fiction to TonyG's. It's suited to the setting.
TonyG is trying to write Superman into the Watchmen, set Captain Kirk into the world of Blade Runner, insert Batman into the scenes of Ghost in the Shell. If that seems jarring, it is.
In addition, it's a disservice to your players (who belong to all the factions) to give them two who are good (Minmatar and Gallente) and two who are evil. Every side should have its triumphs and tragedies to rejoice over and be ashamed of. It makes the setting more realistic, and thus, easier to participate in. It also makes the actions of players more significant: in a world of grays, a truly heroic or villainous archetype becomes all the more remarkable.

Originally by: Mashie Saldana I just finished reading the book and I liked it. Sure it isn't near the complexity of anything written by Peter F. Hamilton, however it is still an enjoyable read.
Peter Hamilton is a space opera god who can create a world 6 books long and make his readers wish they were his servants

I've just finished my copy of the book; Took me 3 or so days.
Its a long way from what I was expecting! I hadn't really examined what the book was about, just knew that it was another eve book, and thus I'd combine 2 of my favourite hobbies It is a vastly different style to Empyrean Age, which owing to the different author is probably a good thing.
Hrm, the forum needs a <Spoiler> tag, not sure how much I can say. Essentially, I think for those who don't know too much about the lore, and haven't read the chronicles or been involved from the beginning it offers a whistle-stop tour of a large number of factions in the eve universe. I learned a few new things, particularly about the pirate factions, which I've not explored too much myself. What let the book down I think was the ending, which seemed a little sudden and forced, not quite meshing with the rest of the story. Throughout the plot, the motivations of the characters have been key, but they seem to be a little glossed over in the final part, another 10 or so pages digging a little deeper would have been nice.
Also an oddity; a large number of your chapters finish on round page numbers, 80 for example.

Couldn't agree more, Hamilton is a god, and I can't wait for his next book in September.

Finished reading my copy last night. Not a bad book by any means but the ending really didn't fit/make much sense.
Sorry Abraxes, I am a big fan of your work with the Chronicles, and the first 95% of the book was great... but that last 5% really didnt cut it.
