It sounds like its just vets vs. noobs, noobs want a way to catch up, vets want to maintain their elitism... I've been around for more than two years, so I'd say I'm somewhere in between. This issue doesn't really stir my genitals the way it has with some of the other posters here, and if CCP came up to me and asked if this was a good idea, I would say don't do it because it doesn't feel like something I want and I don't want to potentially disrupt current game mechanics over an issue I don't particularly care about.
That said, I don't see whats wrong with buying SP with PLEX or regular GTC's back up to your character creation date. You can already buy SP by buying other characters, this would just let you choose your name and such.
Catching up? Are you going to restrict the veterans from doing this too? If anything, this will just create a huge rift between the poor students who can barely afford the game and Johnny Money with mommy's credit card.
