Wow, just wow.. . .
Just when I really felt like I was starting to make momentum and progressing nicely disaster strikes....
I logged on this morning to see my wallet displaying just over 1 million...
Looking through the wallet journal I saw a transaction for 64 million for a contract (I never created) for 1 item to go 2 jumps (item worth a measly 40k).
Seems my account was hacked while I slept, I have no idea how and no idea why. Have logged a petition for now, wait and see what they say.
Pretty gutted. Alot of hard work to lose such a large chunk of hard earned isk. I know its not much to most of you out there though, and thats the way I am looking at it. In a few more weeks 60 mill is going to look like chump change to me :P
Not all is lost, I still have 100 mill tied up in buy/sell orders.
Just leaves a sour taste in your mouth you know ?
Well I am currently changing all my PW's and running virus/bot/malware checks on my pc...
Minor set back for this Trader... can't keep me away from making isk !! :P

P.s thanks to Gray and Cya for your inputs :) I have used Eve-central a fair bit when dealing with the NPC stuff. Not sure that I have quiet fine tuned my use of it to work well with player made/ ship mod/weapons/high lvl meta items yet though... Will give it another go.

Yeah no problem, glad to see you being successful despite the setbacks you've encountered. Good to see someone else flourish, as long as they're not in my hub =)
If you want to talk about trading in-game feel free to eve-mail or convo me. I'm no genius, but I've stayed steadily profitable with no loss whatsoever.

Crisis over, nobody panic!
I have been reimbursed of the money hacked and now stronger than ever. I had almost made it all back anyways by the time the GM sorted it all out :P No idea how it happened but I have done a thorough clean up and from now on I will be a bit more selective of where I go looking for Eve info. . . . some dodgy dodgy sites out there.
Hey Gray, thanks mate, yeah I agree, you rule the Caladri domains and I'll stick to Amarr :P Its FFA in Jita though :P Will def hit you up in game for a chat sometime soon. Pick your trading brain. Good luck as always mate.
Pretty much at 200 mill now, woooot. Going safe and steady. Just bought a pimped out Omen to have some PVE fun in. Lovin it.

240 mills and rolling now. A bit slow changing over to new and faster markets is holding me back though. I may be getting a little confined in my Trade Hub now. The Isk is still steadily ticking over though... but yeah.. really only 120 mill working for me in buy/sell orders and the rest sitting in the wallet doing sweet F/A.
Maybe some bold new adventures await me. New expansion coming in next few weeks though. Maybe I will hoard until then and see what new oppertunities come with Tyrannis. . . .

Bit of an update. I have cleared the 500 mill mark now. After my last post I re-worked my trading items/culled the ones slowing me down and moved into some bigger/scarier items. I have even had a dabble into some speadsheet working to investigate potential lucrative trade items and pick a winner from a bunch of potentials. So far it seems to have paid off.
It has been pretty smooth moving, still only checking orders before work and before bed time for 20 mins a time. Prob averaging 40 mill profit a day now, but have had some slow days where I wasnt even online.
I am still in my low end trading hub. I still feel as though there is enough movement to justify staying. Jita will always be there I suppose. I just think the speed of this hub suits my play style better, In Jita my orders would be quickly overrun and I would be stagnant, not moving much.
Still welcoming any advice from you pro's out there. Thanks to everyone who have mailed me so far !
Hopefully looking to hit the 1 bill mark sometime soon. Its going to be a very rewarding milestone for me. Too bad the original poster Ester didnt hang around. (lol she prob reached 1 bill a few weeks ago :P)

Congrats Kurri. 500m is a big milestone. 1b is right around the corner. So is Jita With only updating orders twice a day it may be better to wait till you have a bigger bankroll to place many diversified orders to make it profitable tho. But it sounds like you have the smaller hub trading tuned in for you. WTG and good luck

Really nice to read these threads, even though i've browsed a dozen of them in the few weeks ive been around.
I've got a similar plan as yours, pick out a smallish hub and work it for a while, but ive got a little more long-term plan for myself. Ive been spending time getting into the basics of mining, mission running, as well as pvp/researching/industrial. While it's been a big time sink without much profit, I feel like i'm getting valuable insight into the drive behind some markets.
My skill plan doesnt have me investing a lot into trading skills for another month or so, but i've got a lot of motivation from this thread. Thanks for the narrative and good luck =). |

If you want, you can jump right in with minimal skills. Having high standing an good broker / accounting skills has a much bigger impact on the low margin / high volume items, which don't start making sense until you have a lot of capital. For high margin items, loosing a percent or two doesn't cut nearly as deep.

Thanks for the tip, that's definitly good to hear. I'm more or less playing into several other aspects of the game to see what is driving the markets there. I hear alot about mission hubs, mining gear, pvp fittings, etc. but, i thought it would be beneficial to spend a month or two "in the field," so to speak, so i'm better able to sense the market values. Perhaps i'm going overboard in my preperation. =)

I concur with this. Having only been trading for three weeks myself I've recently started an alt and you really don't need any trading skills for the kind of stuff you should be looking at trading. All you need is Trading III, Retail II or III or so you can put enough orders up. Broker Relations won't hurt cause it's a cheap skill (Social I prereq only) and will give you a quick boost. Accounting is probably not worth the 4.5M investment until you've made a pretty bundle. 3 weeks on I'm trading with 600M (starting with around 1M) and I still don't really see a lot of returns, although as my daily turnover increases and my profit margins move away from 100% more towards 30-40%, there is a bit more of a point.
One skill that might be worth working towards in Day Trading. If you don't have a second account and don't want to sit in the station all day, Day Trading is your friend. At lvl 2 or 3 it will allow you to change orders from 5/10 jumps out. So you can run missions, haul stuff or mine while still 0.01 isking as much as you desire.
<edit> I should mention that Day Trading is vastly more expensive again and you need Accounting anyway, but it's still a very nice skill to have once you can afford to get it.
BTW also don't listen to people saying you need a certain amount of experience/isk to trade in Jita, it's BS. High volume = high potential for profit. And besides, I've been trading in Amarr recently and the 0.01 isking there is at least as fierce, if not more, than in Jita, but the daily volumes are much lower.
If you want a tip on something I started with and that got me to about 80M from 1M in five days of 0-risk hauling and trading in Jita, convo me in game.

I've found the same thing in Amarr and I can't quite figure out why it is. It doesn't seem to be a great choice of trading hub if you're not ready to commit some time to modifying orders. |

Congratulations on reaching an important milestone. I'm a dedicated trader since November 2009 and this is my first post to the boards. I reached the 1B ISK mark about a month ago but I was involved in some high risk hauling through low sec and I probably lost 1.5B to pirates before I got my cloaking skills up. Anyway, if you want to compare notes just drop me a line in game. Best of luck and fly safe.

Thanks Nyx, yes it was/is very rewarding ! But now back to the grind. After 1 billion comes 2. :P I would def be keen to talk trade with you. In fact once uni stuff is out of the way for the sememster I will look you up for sure.
As for the Amarr/Domain as potential for trade hub/station trade, It has been ok for me (I think), I have traded some items that you are lucky to be at top of the pile for more than 5 mins at any one time !! I dont really have anything else to compare too though, havnt tried jita. Wow I really need to get out there. . . lol.
Btw Kurri Conway = me. Hi !

I also reached the 1B mark sometime between Friday and Saturday this weekend.
Trading with a higher bankroll is definitely nice as it allows more of a spread, including expensive but slower moving items that are not as competitive so even on weekends when I can hardly play at all (like this long weekend with family obligations and a compulsive need to be outside due to the sun finally arriving) I can still make like 100M a day with two or three price updates.
1000B inc I think ;-)

Not too sure if it'll be any help as I'm talking about trading from 5,000 upwards (but all over the place not just station trading) and have little idea of what I'm doing (always fun to discover new things though and I think I'm making some good progress regardless :p) But I've made a log of what I've been doing, the link is in my sig maybe it'll have something useful in it.
As for public investments, I'd steer well clear of those until you have a bit more capital and can absorb a potential loss through scaming etc. ----------
Where can you end up with just 5,000isk and the Market Interface? I have no idea but I intend to find out: Drew Jerac's Log |
