The demographics of this game certainly seem fifferent than most other MMOs I've ever played, and I am curious to see, by personal admission, a sampling of actual age ranges playing. I realize, sadly, that the vast majority of the players never post on these forums, but I am hoping to get a reasonable representative sample.
As for myself, I am 47. I used to think I'd be grandpa moses in this game, but I have encountered a fair many in my age group over the last 2 years while on various gangs and roams, and after quick chats we all share the same draw of the game, the complexity of it compared to other offerings.
I would imagine the bulk of players are college aged; that is to be expected. It will be most interesting to see how many old codgers like me actually frequent the forums, and are willing to honsetly answer the question. There seem to be a number who, for whatever reason, are ashamed of their age among so many younger players. Sad, that.
Thank you in advance for your participation,.

I am 45. When I played WoW up until a few months ago I was 8. "What are we going to do tonight Brain?" asked Pinky.
"Tonight, we are going to take over the universe!" replied The Brain. |

Just looked up some stats online, seems like the average player of WoW is 28 and the average player of EVE is 27. Basically its the same. It would be more interesting to compare IQ stats.

At least WoW players dont have that desperate urge to find reasons why they would be superior to other gamers. (Well i hope, dont play it myself, but really all this "we are superior" crap is getting old).

I'd like to see an arrogance-o-meter implemented into both games.

27 here, I'd honestly say, maybe more so then IQ EVE players have much more patients then a WoW player. We don't crave instant gratification, and are willing to work and earn what we get knowing fully well we can loose it all at anytime potentially.
So I think at the end of the day you'll probably find the average age for most MMO's to be the same. Just the type of ethics the people have will vary based on the game play experience.

I'm exceedingly happy to answer this... I'm 34 and decently successful in R/L... My best bud in EVE is a former USAF pilot pushing late 60's probably. (Not trying to forget any of my other friends in EVE for sure...) Haven't seen him online lately, but he's got some damned cool stories....

I am soon to be 38 and my wife is soon to be 43. We both play, although she tends to spend more time on eve than I do. Most of the people in our corp tend to be late 20's early 30's with a couple over 50. I love the diversity of people that I have found in game.
Although I have to admit that at times on vent I feel like screaming out "Get off my lawn".

I guess I missed the T2 BPO whines from those who don't have them... the warp to zero whines from pirates losing their easy kills... the Doomsday whines from everyone involved... the "buff my race as it isn't an I win button whines... the ease of ISK generation in Empire and in 0.0... the skill queue for those who cannot tell the ****ing time or use EVEMon... Character attribute respecs... reducing each bloodline to nothing more than a cosmetic difference... the "I cannot compete because I've not played as much" whines.
Actually, we're a lot closer to certain games and gamers than I think most people would care to admit or realise.

24 myself today ! been playing 6 months.
In the end it shouldn't matter to people their age. I find more important the individuals actions. Some younger people Ive met in game have been a lot more mature compared to some of the raving manchildren Ive encountered. I do agree though its good to see a mixed bag of age groups in this game. Keeps it interesting.

Some(probably most) 0.0 corps have much lower average ages than the game in general. Not little kids at all but mostly early 20s.
But most of the successful ones have leaders a bit older.

One number was provided by the company running the game.
The other number comes from some internet dude surveying just over 1000 players with no clear information on how bias was avoided.
I think I'll take one of those numbers with a bag of salt.

There was a study a few years back which showed the average gamer to be around 32 if i recall correctly.
It only seems like lots of children game because they never shut up.

i'm 22 myself and have played Dark age of camelot, warhammer online, WoW, LOTRO, and i can safely say, in all those games mostly it has been some who had that mentality and some who didn't. Even for EVE that mentality is around, i've only played for about 3 weeks, but from the experience i have gathered so far from the mmo world. Also age =/= maturity, there are young players who are way more mature than say a 40y/o. But that overall age around 28/27 seems accurate.
Ther will allways be those around trying to show their e-peen and prove that they are better than everyone else etc. That stuff is unavoidable, and the fact that many non WoW players talk **** about WoW players is bull**** imo. There are nice wow players and there are awful wow players, there are nice wow player and there's awful eve players. Keep in mind that in a MMO you got a virtual society, that means you will also have good and bad personalities in that society.
If you don't want to be around those that got a ****ty attitude, then go an play a singleplayer game, but if you're playing a MMO, get used to being treated bad at times for now reason.
edit: forgot to add something
