To avoid misuse of the renaming option and to make it more logic, I think it would be more interestening to let players rename their ship only in station.
It would be also excellent in this case to be able to rename a not active ship.
The rename of a ship should also be taxed (percentage of the ship value).

I don't think that was the problem at hand, it probably was more like the guy renamed his ship just before engaging to: "I lied Neuts on".
