OOPE is full of threads about other games, some of them even with CCP staff posting there.
Personally I think the rules need to be revisited and clarified. No one can blame Adida for enforcing the rules, because that is her job.
But right now, some of them are more then a bit overzealous.

Considering rule 17, I realized there is a bit of ambiguity behind it that leads it to be open to interpretation.
Quote: #17 All posts must be about or related to Eve Online.
Posts about other games or game companies, products or services not related to Eve are not permitted.
The ambiguity in this is that it doesn't explicitly state that posts containing material about other games (or stuff relating to EVE, for that matter) are not permitted. It states that only posts with the SUBJECT of other games aren't permitted. Technically, this means you could post a thread about how to improve EVE with reference to "random MMO" and still be abiding by the rule. This IS resolved with the special rules for OOPE though through rule 5.
Quote: 5. You are not allowed to discuss other games in Out of Pod Experience.
In other words, as it stands, according to the exact wording of the current rules, you may ONLY mention other games in the other subforums ONLY when they are not the subject of your posts, while they are COMPLETELY disallowed in OOPE.
Alongside this, going through the rules again, I can't find that rule that disallows the discussion on moderation. I know its been used many times before, with mods stating explicitly that it isn't allowed, but out of all the rules there isn't one that specifically says this. I looked into this because I was certain that this thread should be locked at some point, but now im not entirely sure.

Just for the LOLZ, mods should create an acct called "CCP Mod 13th" with a Jason-like avatar to deal with this topic.

Yes, there has been indeed some ninja editing going on..
Originally by: Official OOPE Rules as of yesterday 1. Unless amended in this set of rules, the EVE Forum rules apply in this forum.2. Unlike all other forums on the website, all posts here do not have to be related to EVE. In fact, they should not be related to EVE. The purpose of this forum is for all posts not related to EVE.3. Discussions about politics and religion not allowed, there are other websites with forums for these topics.4. Quit posts are allowed, however we ask you to only post that you are leaving and say goodbye to your friends, rants and non-constructive posts will be removed.5. You are allowed to discuss other games as long as it is constructive and not related to EVE.6. We remind you that forum rule 10 still applies in this forum. The posting of ****ography; discriminatory remarks which are sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive; excessive obscene or vulgar language; posts which discuss or illustrate illegal activity; providing links to sites that contain any of the aforementioned.7. It shouldn't be necessary to do so, but it appears that some players feel the need to inflict their viewpoints on race, religion, politics, and other hot topic opinions on other players. These discussions will not be tolerated anywhere on the EVE forums. Players that cannot follow this guideline can lose their posting privileges immediately. This is the sole warning that will be issued regarding this.8. If you're posting an entry in response to a signature competition or request, you're allowed to link to the image directly. This is only allowed in threads that are obviously about requesting a signature. The posted graphics *must*comply with current signature regulations; in both content and dimension.Multiple images are allowed, but using them to create a bigger image in composite is not allowed.Other than that, enjoy and have fun!
So whats next? Fake edit: FFS thats the end of the line. Ordering a new pc to replace this totally funcked up ps3 browser.

So...lets take bets. What will the CCP Dev response be to this thread?
- Ignore it
- Lock with no explanation for questions
- Dev posting in SUPPORT of rule change
  - Dev (preferably Adida) explaining rule(s) (plus lock)

And it begs the question, how many thread about other games can we legitimately make before mod locking them becomes overwhelming. ## You got that? Right I'll be back in approximately 300 seconds to retort! ## |

The rule makes perfect sense. Why would a group of gamers want a forum section, where they are free to discuss gaming and other games. Surely after years of being allowed to do that here and it being allowed on every other game forum I've ever visited, it couldn't possibly be seen as a huge and unnecessary ****head move by CCP. Surely.
It boggles the mind all the more, since the rules already allowed the closing of non-constructive threads, so why exactly was this new rule necessary? Either CCP is brown nosing to some unknown entity, they have collectively been hit by a bad case of stupid or other games killed the community managers only child and the issue is just too painful for him to handle right now. That or some crazy view that negativity should be minimized here, so they crack down on the most popular topics that people like to argue about.
Personally I don't see why it was changed. It seems unnecessary and stupid considering that this is a gaming community. Even more so, since EVE is very niche in what it tries to do and limited in gameplay styles it allows(as are most MMOs), so people will naturally seek out other games to fulfill all their gaming needs.

I'm going to assume they changed the rules and rule enforcement right about the time STO went live...

Dunno but if memory serves me right they started to enforce the "no other games" rule around that time, who ever said that CCP thinks logically.

C'mon CCP, show a little confidence. Censorship of this kind just reeks of insecurity.

I wonder if this is how CCP metagames.
>"Hey Adida." <"Yeah"? >"Lock that thread." <"Why"? >"Do it! It'll be funny" (moments later) <"You guys suck!" - "He feeds exclusively off dead bodies. The Destroyer. The Flesh-Eater. The next logical step on the way to dictatorship is banning the use of EVE material in external and therefore uncontrollable resources like EVE Search or Scrapheap Challenge.
I'd rather like to see what democracy at work could look like if Chribba ever got banned for providing a better forum experience than CCPs own web team can, voluntarily and at substantial financial involvement for himself - all free of charge.
Let's stop the silliness now, please.
Thank you.

Locking this as it questions a moderator's actions.
