- Set EVE interval to immediate.
- Hear high-pitch whine coming from computer.
- Blue bolts of electricity arc out the back of computer.
- Electricity arcs across motherboard, seen through case window.
- Blue smoke pours from case.
- Interior of case covered in whitish-gray film.
Check.
Did changing my interval just kill my computer?

Nope. Im down for the count. Incidentally, I gave my account login to a trusted friend (absolutely trusted) the next day my EVE account was hacked through the site. Funny how that works, eh? The issue was resolved with support btw. Also got a few details on logins and the new EVE Gate thing through the support guy. Everyone that works for CCP is uber!

Yes. What you did was effectively shove the throttle to 1000% military power which overheated your gpu shorting the card which then dumped all those capacitors filled with energy into the motherboard. This is why I always have vsync forced on in the driver as eve isn't the only game to have this 'feature' though to be fair your case was a bit extreme.

The high pitched whine you mentioned does fit with a capacitor being charged. So it may be that something went wrong there, but I doubt that the capacitors on your motherboard could do this, but I really doubt it. But, I'm no expert.
So I'll stick with:
WOW! DO IT AGAIN!
XD

what was the computer's spec? my guess would be that when you turned off vsync and the GPU went to full load, it may have overloaded the PSU, and it decided to take down the rest of your PC in a catastrophic failure.

using Immediate on my PC causes my GPU to melt (temps reach 100ŚC), so generally have avoided it, first I heard of someone's PC 'aspolding from it tho

From the description, that would be my guess to. 100% load on the GPU blowing out the capacitors in the PSU (and the PSU may have been sufficient when new, capacitors do age and lose quite a bit of oomph over time).
The fact that the caps dying didn't cut off the PSU from the rest of the PC is troubling though, normally if something like that happens it should cut power to the motherboard and peripherals first, containing the short inside the PSU.
