Are you assuming that we'd want to in the first place regardless of laws? Because that would be funny.

The thing is, most countries don't have the same juvenile mindset and power fantasies that run rampant in America.
I guess it's a fair trade, you guys can have guns, and the rest of the developed world can have healthcare.

Edited by: Vogue on 29/03/2010 22:45:02 Edited by: Vogue on 29/03/2010 22:42:52 USA is extremely diverse. I admire its inovative business culture and cutting edge technology development. I love big block american sports cars, Star Wars, BSG and lots of other mainstream culture. But i dislike some right wingers 19th century attitude of be a christian militant with us or be against us.
My mum remarried to an American and he has rounded views of all sorts of stuff. And he actually travelled outside the USA which a lot of other Americans really should do.
USA is bizarre in that most of the people who live there actually don't give a hoot about the rest of the world. But its political institutions are interested in maintaining USA's hegemoney of no 1 superpower in the world.
But only in the USA would you have an airhead like Sarah Palin taken seriously.
And i would like to got to a shooting range and try out some guns. Just for fun

I love the fact that you can buy anti-materiel rifles in the states. I mean, all is well and fine, but why do you need those... with that said, I would totally own one if I was in the states, juts for the sake of owning one hah. Still slightly insane.

Fixed it for you. The rest of the United States actually has a reason to own a gun and 4x4. Lemme list them for ya:
For a 4x4: Snow, Mountains, Mud, Sand, and finally, Bad and Dangerous Public Roads.
For a gun: Actual four legged wild animals that will stalk and eat you (i.e. bears, cougars, mountain lions, wolves), actual four legged wild animals that look like they came out of a Disney flick, but are very dangerous when upset and hungry(i.e. deer, elk, moose, coyotes), actual two legged animals that think their awesome because (insert various, often random, reason here) and a police force that is generally either hamstrung by idiots posing as policemen, or lawyers posing as people.
People who shouldn't own a gun: People who allowed themselves to be harnessed like sheep and fleeced regularly, yet somehow think they're enlightened. This despite the fact they aren't smart enough to think for themselves and have "Hollywood" or "liberals" or "Micheal Moore" or "Republicans" or "the media" do it for them.
Think for yourself. Don't ever assume. The world is far more complex.
I only do diplomancy because I haven't found you.. yet. |

Thank you for this poast even though its a terrible attempt at a setup. It simply confirms what all americans regardless of ethnicity or original national origin already know: Non-americans are envious jealous bastages that emorage in whatever public venue is available every time they get denied immigrant status and are stuck yet again in their boring unfun country that regulates them into little moar than automatons.. So, fox and the sour grapes much mate?

what other country have a healthcare system that can be compared to south africa unless having a very expensive innsurance or paying in the price class of millions?
What other country have 1-2% of its population sitting in prison, seeing 10s of thousands getting killed every year but not the need for gun control?
I coul mention more, but in fear of bringing politics into the picture I will abstain. But honestly, USA should look more to Europe on how to do things. Maybe you could learn something... just sayin'

i never thought i'd agree with sokratesz but tbh keeping your guns is the least of your concerns as a nation atm. yes i realise many places in the us you need guns and thats just good practice but noone needs assault rifles and artillery for home defence :p
for the record i live in scotland i have shot guns many many times and pre dunblane i owned one myself for hunting, now i just stick to swords and big knives, much more manly :p

But that's what they want no? To be able to fight the government when it undertakes extremist steps like slowly ridding the country of the Christian blanket that's been covering it for a hundred years and introducing modern, civilised things like welfare and gun control.
Truth is, Americans don't seem to care about what their government does unless someone tells them to.

I think that's the point. You wanted to shoot guns and did. Others are not so lucky. I don't shoot my guns everyday. When I feel the urge to (and ammo prices are reasonable), I go to the range and safely practice. I don't shoot targets or plates thinking: wow i'm getting pretty good, I think i'll go on a murderous rampage soon. I shoot because I feel that it's important to know how to survive, in case something bad happens (If I knew what bad thing was exactly going to happen, i'd train for that, but i'm not psychic, so I keep the spectrum of known skills broad). I shoot because it's fun. I shoot because I can.
