What other country have 1-2% of its population sitting in prison, seeing 10s of thousands getting killed every year but not the need for gun control?
I coul mention more, but in fear of bringing politics into the picture I will abstain. But honestly, USA should look more to Europe on how to do things. Maybe you could learn something... just sayin'

yeah its not a requirement to be american to use a gun, it only enables you and your comrades to generally shoot and ask questions later, its not suprising that an AMERICAN is so hyped over using a weapon, generally it doesnt take much for you cowboys to use braincells to use your undex finger to pull the trigger and then say "omg that was extreme!" after blowing sum1s arm off

If you got a money in the bank, your wallet and some spare change you are in the world's top 8% in wealth, go munch on that.
Also several spots in europe has a suicide rates that makes american military rates look happy.
Also take guns away from people who want to kill and they'll resort to bats sticks boots and knives all which hurt quite a bit.
take guns away from all those but who wont apply and that only leaves the law breaking criminals with the guns and they'll have the advantage for years on end.
The fact that not everyone has health care isnt the problem in america, and in my opinion never was, the fact that health care as gotten to the point that not everyone can afford it and its turned into a milking its victims system (ie treat the almients not provide a cure) this now over lobbied health care system is going to line the pockets of those who pitched for it. Just like selling all those jobs to china made those proliticals very rich back when bill clintion passed that bill allowing china to own most of americas debt.
Also would love somone to explain where all that stimulus money went, at least when bush did his stimulus we had some idea where it wasted to, where as an obama stimulus we got money going into parts of states that dont exist or investements used to pay ceos or companies that default within months after receivng thier bailouts. IMO the healthcare system that they pushed so far for in a ciritical time of 11% jobless and growing problem of goverement kick backs.
Now that they passed the bill they're wasting millions more on advertising it... millions we barely dont have to the point entire school sytems are shutting down becuase they're facing bankrupcy.
So Ill keep my guns for that day theyll be needed.

Considering we literally are made up of every single race and ethnicty in the entire world as our citizen base we are in the perfect position to troll everyone and feel like a champ in the process. I'm guessing 99% of the haters in this thread will never touch a firearm such as I have displayed in the OP. And I'm guessing that 99% of the reason is that while they probably have no desire to, their countries laws also make it impossible to own one due to their local laws.
Yes, some countries may allow you to own similar firearms, I doubt it's as easy to do there as it is here, in the United States. In the U.S. it's easy and I'm free to do so.
As for countries where it is easy/allowed to own and operate weapons such as fully automatic weapons of all sorts, large caliber rifles (.50 cal., 14.5mm, 20mm etc.), suppressed weapons etc. I'd like to hear from people in those countries. I'm curious as to just how many other countries out there give it's citizens similar rights like the United States does.
I'm thinking that if you look at the total number of countries in the world and compare the number that legally allow a person to own a firearm such as those in the OP vs. do not, the countries that allow such a thing will number in the 4-5% range.
That being said, shooting guns is awesome. Getting muddy while shooting guns is also awesome.

USA is extremely diverse. I admire its inovative business culture and cutting edge technology development. I love big block american sports cars, Star Wars, BSG and lots of other mainstream culture. But i dislike some right wingers 19th century attitude of be a christian militant with us or be against us.
My mum remarried to an American and he has rounded views of all sorts of stuff. And he actually travelled outside the USA which a lot of other Americans really should do.
USA is bizarre in that most of the people who live there actually don't give a hoot about the rest of the world. But its political institutions are interested in maintaining USA's hegemoney of no 1 superpower in the world.

althou american are a bit wierd in regards to there gun laws (and in general), guns clearly takes 2 out 3 points category "toys for men" which is
1. Smell of/uses fuel in anyway
2. destruktive
3. Loud

i never thought i'd agree with sokratesz but tbh keeping your guns is the least of your concerns as a nation atm. yes i realise many places in the us you need guns and thats just good practice but noone needs assault rifles and artillery for home defence :p

I think that's the point. You wanted to shoot guns and did. Others are not so lucky.
I don't shoot my guns everyday. When I feel the urge to (and ammo prices are reasonable), I go to the range and safely practice. I don't shoot targets or plates thinking: wow i'm getting pretty good, I think i'll go on a murderous rampage soon. I shoot because I feel that it's important to know how to survive, in case something bad happens (If I knew what bad thing was exactly going to happen, i'd train for that, but i'm not psychic, so I keep the spectrum of known skills broad). I shoot because it's fun. I shoot because I can.

Sure we have alot of vocal gun owners but they certainly are not the majority. That we have hundreds of millions of gun owners is simply because its allowed and encouraged. I seriously doubt even a minute fraction of them have actually shot the things and have them tucked away in a case to pull out and show off to the guys on occasion.

Those limits are much closer than you'd like to think, they won't be recognized on the eve-online forums though because it's full of cornucopian futurists who are sad Arthur C. Clarke's world never came to fruition. The world post peak/plateau in oil extraction will be much different. You will not be driving a hydrogen fueled car to a wind powered Starbucks come 2050.

You must be in your late 30's or early 40's so I can forgive your gloomy outlook on the world as your experience of it has mostly been the paranoia of the cold war and the ongoing corpratization of pretty much everything including society. Belive it or not this all happened back in the turn of the century when industry was king and the worlds governments were mostly in bed with them. Then came the crash which reverberated around the world and was a major contributor to the start of ww2 as the entire conflict was mostly about resourses. Bad times came around and we rebooted the country to what it is now. Only this time around I think the powers that be have a better understanding of things and even though the worlds problems might seem out of control atm it takes a very long time to change the course of a single nation let alone the entire world even now that we have global instantanious communications. Heh, I bet poor arthur is rolling in his grave over what his idea of bringing the world together though instant communication has been perverted into. Hell if i was a non american and my only window into the country was the jerry springer show or the endless brainless sitcoms and prime time 'reality' shows that have about as much in common with the common man as your local nutcase who lives out in the woods I would think the entire country was fat redneck inbred fast food eaters too.

@baltec1 @novafox: That school system faced bankrupcy because they had twice as many schools as they needed for the current population and had to close them to keep solvent just like any other buisiness would have to do. No student is going without an education as they simply shipped them to the schools that stayed open and now everyone is happy. Kids get moar potential friends due to the increase in each schools population to what it was designed to hold and they also get a better education with the savings from the closed schools being used to purchase additional up to date curriculum and other nice things like computers for additional programming classes or gym and art supplies and such.

Never shot the SAW myself, we didn't have any in my unit we did have the M240 though which is the same except heavier, and shoots a larger caliber, and can't be shot well from the standing position. Ok they arn't the same at all.
The MK-19 on the otherhand was my main gun during my tour in Iraq, it's not so much that you curse at it when you shoot it, it's more of a 'holy **** look what I did' reaction it's a lot of fun. the TOW2B while being a larger missle is a lot quieter than the AT4 as well it's more of a click, pauseohgoddiditmalfunction?, FWOOSH.
The AT4 wins hands down for being the rudest weapon to the shooter, though I never shot the javalin but it seems to be the same experience as the TOW without the need to stare through sights guiding the missile in. BANG ohgodmyearstheyarebleedingi'mnevershootingthisthingagain is my experience with the AT4.
So what the heck are these people on about in this thread? Most of them seem rather dumb.

Yeah I think I read somewhere in the brainless text of the past few pages about school funding and the federal government. Which is kind of stupid, granted federal funding plays a role, but it is local (city) and state support that is the primary (or should be) source of funding. If you are from a Republican state, or semi-republican you will find misnomers on the poor quality of public education due to loaded state tests and the like that are twisted in a manner to make the public schools look bad. Why is this? Mostly because they want to get charter schools the same kind of funding, and the best way to do this is destroy public education to the point where popular opinion is all for it. They do this by reducing state funding, hampering local funding, and making a big deal about poor quality state tests that even colleges know better than to use as a guide pole.
This effort can be made perfectly clear if you look at the 'evaluation' tests from the initial no child left behind (aka: lets see if we can kill public schools) effort of Mr. George (lets destroy the economy while we can) Bush jr. The American history, and world history questions read as a propaganda machine, and all the school teachers I know were pulling their hair out trying to figure out how they will be able to teach their students reality and also get the right answers in the tests. The answer was they didn't have the time for both. Some of these teachers quit, some trundled on. Things have gotten a lot better recently (god I wonder why).
It's examples like that that make sure I never vote republican ever again in my life time. Hell I had a family friend who dedicated his life working for the republican party. He recently retired after 50 years of service for the party. At his retirement party I asked him if there were any good republican up and comers (I try to believe in a balance of power) he told me he hasn't voted republican for 10 years they are all *******s don't vote for any of them.
