Well tbh I've always wondered why ccp never gave ships, bases on size, point defense.
As an example maybe like T3 ships allowing players to remove a low slot for say:
anti missle Gatling anti laser refractor anti kinetic round blast plates
Basically super low range defenses that can't be used for offense but offer close in defense or whatever.
Naturally the larger class of ships could sacrifice more slots to give more of what the op is wanting giving a broader range of that true to life feel. Problem is it's a game loosely based off real world ships so real world comparisons are not 100% appropriate.
As a side note I would like to see actual ship bonuses be allowed to be removed so perhaps other types of point defenses could be extended to say short range for anti frigate defense or whatever. That on conjunction with negatives like neuts or webs can't be used. Otherwise frigates wouldn't even remotely stand a chance. With something like that we can make ships have a feeling of majesty. |

Quote: Firstly, battleships shouldn't be solowtfpwnmobiles. If you think that your BS might encounter some smaller ships, then take an escort with you.
Secondly, there's nothing stopping you fitting small or medium guns on your battleship.
well not that I disagree with you but your last sentence was stupid as he!l. Why? I want you to put small guns on your mega or whatever battleship you fly next time you go out with it. When you lose it tell me how much grief and Luls you get from your brosefs. Then tell me how long it took for you to explain to everyone why you did it.
The idea is sound for frigate defense. The actual implementation of it will get you smacked on teamspeak and the killmail. |

Edited by: Jovialmadness on 30/03/2010 16:10:48 Ha yea I can see that kind of flak going over well in eve. If that were put in game I would suspect it would last 5 minutes before the whiners flooded the forums with tears of blood.
Edit: in reference to ecco's post. |

Quote: Now, I realize most of this is nullified by the simple fact that EVE is a game and the ships are balanced the way they are to give everyone a fair shot, and that's fine. But that doesn't mean that it's the best approach. Honestly, if you want to see the future of space combat, the best place to look is Star Wars or Wing Commander, both of which did a far better job of transfering known and understood fleet tactics into space. Both of those fictional universes did a bang-up job of keeping the role of little ships limited, goal-oriented and viable, while simultaneously largely eliminating all but capital ships and fighters from big space battles - exactly how it should be.
man you make sense! One thing I've always done is actually implement this in big fleet fights. I never understood why fc's want concentrated dps EVEN FROM interceptors and what not when primaries are called. I always immediately go into dog fight mode when others are present. My dps is not going to change the outcome of a fight and win or lose I'll take extra ships down that normally wouldn't have been. Now I do realize that concentrated dps and the removal of serious targets quickly can decide a fight....there are always exceptions. I'm also NOT advocating only same class ships of all classes engage each other although that would be interesting and make for more real to life fleets possibly but I am stating that as far as the super spec'd ships with lower dps like interceptors or ewar frigs have no buisness flying 5 kms off a dam(n) gate just to add 60-120 dps to a target already getting 10000 dps. |
