Been looking at the sudden surge in people wanting to blow themselves up along with others and started wondering why ships laden with explosives to be used as guided missiles are not part of our world.
New Commodity: High Explosive Nanite (HEN). (only on market in low-sec and NPC null-sec from select few corporations, can be assembled in ammo array). Volume: 0.05-0.1 m¦ Damage: 1-5 points per unit. NB: Numbers to be determined.
How it works: - Pilot fills cargo (expanders work as normal) with explosives. - Pilot right clicks the stack and choose "fuse to hull" before undocking or in range of maintenance array. - Pilot flies ship into object.
Restrictions/balancing: - Once fused to hull the cargo bay becomes inaccessible (as if it was a pod = 0 m¦). - Once fused it can not be undone, reprocessing or detonation are only options. - All modules except AB/MWD on ship become inactive/offline/inaccessible but retain their effect (resists, plates, cargo etc.). - HEN priming is disrupted by Concord in a similar fashion to cloaks, no high-sec suicide bombing. - Any insurance is naturally voided when explosives are fused to hull. - HEN cannot be fused to cargo vessels (transports/industrials) due to the Planck Stabilisers used to maintain their cargo holds. - "Friendly fire" is possible so of less use in furball scenarios where drones and ships are everywhere.
Final thoughts: Values should be enough for a frigate to one-shot an un-tanked tech 1 cruiser (approx. same damage as bombs but not AoE), hence the 'NB' earlier. Perhaps scale per hull-size but staying low enough to prevent a BS gang (ten'ish) from popping a carrier.
Weekly brain-fart is now concluded. Take a good whiff and comment if you'd like.

Cause neither you nor the others stopped to consider the implications of these ideas in the context of the suicide gank and Jita 4-4.
Do we really want newb ships with newb pilots suiciding everything in site?

this idea gets suggested at least ones a month and then gets shot to pieces. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

If explosives can't be implanted in highsec and players can't take these ships into highsec...how does that happen then?

So let's say .1m3 and 5 = 50 dmg per m3.
Max skills Charon (981250m3) x 50 dmg = 49,062,500 - head shot supercap, anyone?!
Although, it could be quite funny if there was a random chance of the explosive becoming unstable and goig off at an inopportune moment! :p
/me wafts the brainfart out the window....

I still prefer the idea of ramming your ship without explosives into another. In fact, I'd like to see bumping replaced with actual collisions which could seriously damage or destroy both ships. It would require a complete redesign of the way stations eject players however.
Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

. I like to refer to this as "reading comprehension" or "reading before replying". You should try it, quite ingenious concepts.

Yea, yea. So I forgot to add freighters to restrictions .. minor oversight on my part
Random chance for explosives to go off .. perhaps when taking damage to hull as a percentage of total. Would be silly if it could happen at any time, makes for a rather crappy weapon .. I would like to think that the Eve universe has moved beyond simple nitroglycerin and blackpowder
Would give Rapiers and Huggins a purpose in fleets: Protecting the ECM (and other high value assets), TP + Web are imminently suited to prevent a kamikaze ship from reaching its target.
