I am not getting the logic.
Now you are just looking to save face. Give it up, you did not understand the fact that the mission had to be flagged in one go, and you got confused. The mission has to be flagged in one go to prevent exploitation, meaning, exactly that, CCP does not want people farming mining missions after every DT and then selling the unique ore to other mission runners. Each mission runner must flag their own mission completed, regardless of whether they purchased the mission materials in some fashion. It works the same way with combat missions, just because you can buy militants does not mean the agent will accept them until you go into your actual mission pocket and pop the ships to flag it completed. Forget the people who will hound you for this, everyone makes mistakes, move on, and learn from it.
Simple.

For the folks who are trying to compare to combat missions- Apples and oranges folks.
Would you like a list of the "Combat missions" that you can blitz in about 2 minutes?(or less)
If it says get the documents from "x" you can blitz up to that and get it- others say to get some spiced wine, and you fly in and them out and give them some spiced wine you have sitting in your hanger for 3 years ago. Some say eleminate all enemies. Those cause you to eleminate all enemies.
I understand what they want now- thanks for the info from the handful of people who read the actual problem I have with the post. That it is called a get item mission, and when I got the items and needed to move on- GM's just said-"mission not complete, have a nice day"
And for the uber miners who kept saying bingo- you didnt mine it with your main- i enjoy that all the other folks whom have finished it with alts posted here and showed these noobs how funny they sound...thanks to the few folks at the end who have a brain- to the others, ...fill in blank... Oh, and to the gent who said insulting people isnt smart, right after he posted I was wrong for using and alt...first off- If i insult you enough, you might come to 0.0 to kill me, which is awesome, second- The interweb isnt real, nor is this game- so its only a virtual insult- so you should virtually not care...heheheh
Too dumb to do a mission (and a mining mission no less) even with like 20 people explaining how...too much epeen to admit you were wrong and instead insult those trying to help...nice work!

QFT And just wanted to add, if you're a combat character and get a mining mission like this, just skip it and take the next combat mission. You shouldn't get another mining/courier mission for at least the 4 hour cooldown with a decent combat agent...

There are plenty of item delivery missions which you can complete by buying those items off the market.
There are plenty of combat missions which require you to kill every ship in the complex.
This is not an apples and oranges comparison - many missions have a trigger which must be activated for mission objectives to be completed, and without that mission objective completed flag, you cannot complete the mission.
In "Break Their Will" the objective is to destroy the repair station. In "Mother Lode" the objective is to destroy the polygypsum asteroid.
Quote: That it is called a get item mission, and when I got the items and needed to move on- GM's just said-"mission not complete, have a nice day"
Mother Lode is a mining mission. See the graphic? It's a sepia tone with a Reaper mining an asteroid. If it was an "item get" (ie: "trade") mission, the graphic would be the green one with the box of items. If it was a courier mission, the graphic would be the blue one with the Bestower approaching the jump gate.
Some missions are bastard mixes of course - you have Cargo Delivery which is an "encounter" mission (graphic is red with two caracals flying amongst explosions) mixed with a trade mission.

A couple of random comments: I'm pretty sure that the ore that you turn in can be in any number of piles with the following caveats: It must all either be in your hangar or in your ship's cargo bay. It cannot be shared between them. Furthermore it cannot be inside a container (like a station container).
Your alt can mine the entire asteroid and trade you the ore. The completion trigger is mining the last bit of ore from the last asteroid and it doesn't matter who mines it. If you have identical ore stored up from a previous mission and your alt triggers the objective by mining the last bit of the asteroid you can go ahead and turn in your stored ore. You don't have to turn in the ore from the actual asteroid that popped.
Downtime does reset the asteroid to full. You have to re-mine the entire thing to get the mission completion objective.
There are combat missions whose objective is to destroy a particular ship and actually require you to destroy all the ships, or all the ships in the last room in order to get flagged as completed. If you destroy the 'target ship' but don't get flagged as completed then after downtime the entire mission will re-spawn.
If you post a question and multiple people try to help you then randomly insulting those people demonstrates an enormous lack of personal worth.

Lots of idiots defending bad game mechanics in this thread. I'm so surprised.
IMO, pass on all missions that require for you to obtain a "specific item" unless it's damsel in distress.
edit: and just to remind you, there is still no divider between posts and sigs.

You're right, there is no mineral called polygupsum. It's an ore you mine in a mission.

I applaud you wet ferret- As far as those who dont like my attitude- it breaks my heart- can I send you isk so that you will be my friends? Interestingly- since the nice dev deleted my posting of the GM's responses, a bulk of this is taken out of context, and it could have been avoided if the crappy GM's would have explained what a few of you actually did-
the first few responses were arrogant, and then the super posters pointed out that I have to mine it myself...lulz. I think about 90% of you are moons, and a few of you actually see my frustration.
I accidentally accepted this dumb mission, trust me- its been about a year since i have been in empire, and i decided to run a few missions before our next wave of attacks on bad guys in 0.0...
Lesson learned, stay out of empire except with logistics alts.

That said- i read it and the answer they gave was 100% correct. If you had just done what they said instead of insisting you were right the problem would have been over and done.
Is it a screwy mechanic? yes- but eh, you cant have a game as complex as eve and expect everything to be intuitively simple.

Wow, i was giving the OP the benefit of the doubt since I read it after the responses were removed. Upon seeing the actual GM answers it makes you wonder how the OP knows how to breathe without getting detailed instructions and having someone hold his hand as he tells them how the instructions are wrong and he can live by inhaling and expelling mayonnaise through his left ear...

Originally by: Darth Matt and a few of you actually see my frustration.
Here what you have stated so far:
1. I cannot be bothered to understand mission mechanics. 2. I cannot be bothered to look for "Mission Objective Completed" in the journal before attempting to turn a mission in. 3. I cannot be bothered to fully read a GM response when I receive one. 4. When given the right answer, I will neither acknowledge, thank, nor consider it, where is the fun in learning something new when I can just assume everything. 5. Any perceived mistakes I make are automatically excused because I am an elite null sec pilot and Empire space is scary. 6. Everyone is always wrong but me, even when the evidence against me is monumental. 7. I am wholeheartedly incapable of flaw or error in both logic, comprehension, and behavior.
Must be so hard to be so ****ing right all the time, how do you stand it?
i.e. the right answer has been given to you dozens of times in this thread even after the GM gave it to you to begin with. If you cannot be bothered to read the journal or understand simple mechanics then maybe mission running is not for you. That's easy, right?

Something does sound fish here, with the whole ore amount thing...
but in fairness to the OP, he's right. A lot of GM's don't seem to read petitions at all, and just copy/paste responses that either don't even relate to the petition, or are "close"... either way it's obvious that they either didn't read, or couldn't be bothered to do more than copy/paste the closest response.

How does the fact that it is a game on the internet make an insult not real?
I love when people like you are complete as.holes to others just because it is the internet and you don't see people face to face.
The is no difference in social aspects of a video game on the internet over real life other then if you do something stupid irl the person can beat the snot out of you if they have a mind to.

Granted, I got a stock response to my Thanatos loss in the D-GTMI battle, as expected, even after writing a very courteous but emphatic petition basically saying, what is the point of capital engagements if one cannot actually participate.
However, given the sheer volume of petitions along the nature of, "amagawd cpp HALP ME! lost my rookie ship in L4 WC! reimburse!" that are likely out there, I don't fault them for reusing stock responses, when the nature of the petition warrants it.
They have quotas and job responsibilities to meet, and if your boss told you to stop coddling every single nooblet who filed a ticket based on his own lack of understanding of simple game mechanics, wouldn't you rather keep your job than cater to some random rube in a different country who can't seem to bother reading the mission completion flags in his journal?

Not neccessarily. I believe it all has to be either in ship's cargo or hangar, but doesn't have to be stacked.
