Confirming I play MW2, AND pewpew (usually for no good reason) in eve.
Therefore I am a murderous army-of-one killing machine on par with the likes of Nico Bellic (oh did I mention I also play GTA IV XD). I am a psychopathic serial killer, whose twisted problem lies with a deep hatred of 'pixel ownership'.
I just have to kill people who think they 'own' pixels that are created by a game company. The pixels don't deserve this kind of slavery. You can't OWN a pixel, mannnnn (in soviet Russia, pixels own YOU!).
Thankfully my extensive weapons training (mw2) and piracy experience (eve) --not to mention my fondness for dropping primed grenades in the middle of cop chases (thank you GTAIV)-- have all prepared me for this important life.
I am a psychopathic crusader for the pixel....better hope you don't run into me in a back alley with your myrmidon t-shirt...
((I hope this post makes as much sense as the OP's))

Originally by: Wen Alis If you play chess you will regularly be killing bishops, kings and queens of your opponent. But does this make you a calculating unfeeling psychopath in real life? People of sound mind see very good distinctions between in-game "killing" and real life world kind of killing.
I see this all the time; Eve being compared to a game of chess. But let's take a look at this in closer detail.
First, in chess there is only one way to be declared a winner. And this is achieved through only one means; killing. Eve is much more complex and there is NO END GAME. There are many individual goals. And these goals can be achieved in a million different ways. Basically, there does not need to be the "I kill you for no reason just as in chess you kill for no reason.ö In fact, if in chess you kill a piece for no reason other than because you can and because of the "lulz" you're simply playing chess wrong. You kill because it's part of the greater and only one strategy; capture the opposing king.
When you play chess you don't do it to 'collect tears' or to **** off your opponent simply because you can. And playing chess with someone that is looking to provoke a negative reaction from you is quite a turn off. At least the people I play with are not that mean-spirited. In fact, the more professional the players the more sportsmanship they seem to possess, something you don't see much of in Eve.
I'm not saying that killing for the sake of killing in-game is wrong, especially if that's your goal. But doing it to p*ss off players and for "lulz" is simply lacking sportsmanship. And yes, if you play for "tears" you do need help in real life. You see, at this point Eve isn't "just a game" to you. It's a tool you use to realize and manifest your perception of real power over others. The key words being perception of real power.
Or if you're simply inclined in comparing Eve to chess, think of it this way: Do you enjoy competing or watching a veteran massacre a 2-day-old noob in chess? Yeah, I'm sure there are a few of you that get a kick out of it. But these are the people that use Eve more as a real-life tool to bully than as a game.

You kill and grief and gank to try and induce suicide IRL. If you succeed at this you win EVE!

Oh, I'm sure there's a handful that would get a kick out of this and agree with you. And if this isn't the mentality of a psychopath then really, what is?

You call it fighting but a lot of setups I see are made to kill rather then fight. The fight is done on another level then when the actual shooting. The attacker chooses to engage without much (if any) risk to himself his prey and kills him without much of a fight.
If you call that fighting you might as well say that a butcher has a fight with the cattle.
You know how people go deerhunting or fishing?
Dont be a deer.

In EvE there is a lot of killing that occurs simply because players like to kill other ships/players. Some call it griefing, others call it PvP. Typically, these are horribly one-sided engagements that the victor knows he/she will win before it begins. Many players seem to get off on the grief of their victims..."tear collecting" they call it. Some folks say this is just done in the spirit of the game, other folks call it an antisocial, sociopathic play style.
It's all part of the game though, so fly safely, and be prepared to lose a few ships and/or pods over the course of your stay in New Eden.
Even though grief play is rampant in EvE, it's usually not personal, and it adds an element of risk that you can't find in most MMO's anymore.

I've lost 100s of millions of isk to pirates and gankers. I've killed dozens of ships in wars in high sec and 0.0 and for lulz in lowsec. It's all in the game, yo.
