Hi,
I soon will jump into a Golem and I wonder if a Crystal set is needed, or is the Golem tank/cap that good that this investment isn`t a "must have" ?
Thanks

I run missions in a vargur atm, and most missions I don't even need to turn on my tank at all. You'll be fine without crystals. |

Edited by: Mendolus on 01/04/2010 14:41:11 If you invest about 300-400MIL into some low grade Crystals you'll get about 10-12% bonus to shield boosting on a Golem...
Whether this makes a small or huge difference for you really depends on your fit. I can honestly say that for my fit, it is just icing on the cake, and not a huge boost to my ability to tank. I'd say, the bigger the shield booster you fit on your Golem, the more implants are going to help, i.e. simple math really. For instance, my Golem does not even have any shield boost amps fit, because they do not impact my tank as much as hardeners do, with my particular fit.
I looked at the full blown Crystal set, and it was only somewhat better than the low grade as it gives you +3 to attributes instead of +2. When you factor in a substantial difference in price between low grade and full Crystal then it makes them seem even less worth it to me personally. I do not really have an intimate understanding of implants to begin with, so maybe someone else can explain if the Crystal set has some other advantage I am not seeing, cuz it looks like the complete set whether low grade or full Crystal still only gives 15% maximum bonus to shield boosting.
i.e. If you really want to use some implants, buy a couple of the low grade Crystals, but for the most part, it's just going to add some more cushion to your tank, and not much else.

What do you mean with needed?
with chrystals you get more tank which translates into either more target painters or a cheaper booster.
You can certainly run one without em though.

actually with just the first 5 implants from the LG set you will gain ~23% or so more shield boost, extremly worth it for not really very much compared to HG+omega.

I thought it was additive, i.e. +15% bonus to shield boost amount? Maybe I need to look at it ingame... trusting too much in EFT does not always lead to good things.

Except for the -3 attribute penalty compared to +5s. Golem can tank just fine without crystals.

Ahhhh very nice, tyvm :)
OP:
So yea, low grade, I almost have the full set of LG, but I still do not recommend them unless you're using an XL booster, or you just want some extra cushion on what will already be a sufficient tank for a Golem.

If you are gonna go down the road of pimping your golem crystals is the best place to start, large bonus to tank without any added gank risk. its not really a must have but can allow you to run less tanky setups for more mission speed

you must have T2 large range rigs to hit everything. also, more range means your rage torps can hit further and you can rely on your weaker javelin torps less. it blows to train and buy expensive rigs that dont increase your dps (directly), but you must if you want to mission in a golem and not go crazy. OR you could fit an AB...but then you are reduced to chasing each BS rat around the room which gets old fast.

I'd take my +4 attribute implants over the Crystals any day. The Golem already tanks more than enough for lvl4 missions.
