Wyrm I've been following this war of words between our races here and found your remarks on my quote Tharrn posted particularly interesting. Since I've felt the impact of Minmatar missles on my shields in the past and attest to your races's eloquence in the language of war I was equally impressed to see a Minmatar speak so eloquently on ancient Earth history.

But first, on the matter of these convoy raids. If our races were honest we would both admit we often send brave men in poorly equiped Industrials to do dangerous work because it's "convenient". The fact is these same freighter captains are often far braver than those of us from either race who command from the bridge of a heavy cruiser.

The unfortunate truth of the matter is the convoy we intercepted was carrying weapons for the resistence and while I understand your races belief in the justice of your cause we are equally duty bound to oppose that resistence. I can however state that no true warrior, Amarr or Minmatar, in the quiet of his own thoughts takes honor in destroying an unescorted Industrial left by it's government to die. War however often drops unpleasant tasks in our laps and brave Minmatar captains have done no less.

Now to my quote...the facts you raised about Thermopylae are precisely why I picked it. The 1st Praetorian Guard finds itself in the same postion Leonidas and his band found themselves.

We have been told Oracle, a corp many times our size, is considering declaring war on us. We are a small unit it seems often forgotten by Amarr with few allies who seem willing to defend the Empire. If that is our lot we are prepared to accept...all races and Empires throughout history have spent good men's lives for the sake of "Politics". If we are to be spent in that manner so be it.

The truth of Thermopylae however is the Leonidas's betrayal is forgotten....the victory of the great Persian army is forgotten....the honor of Leonidas and the fallen Spartans has never been forgotten.

If the day arrives that Oracle and Minmatar in all their strength come against us, myself and the men I serve with, will on that day be prepared to "fight in the shade" as well.
And while we may share the fate of the Spartans we will certainly share their glory.

I respect your words Wyrm and hope war never brings us the choice of firing on each other.

Oh....one last thing to ponder about Themopylae you neglected to mention. While Persia was victorious, the spark that Spartan courage lit in Greece at those "Gates of Fire" ultimately consumed the Persians.

May fortune follow you Captain.
