Not a single Spartan survived the battle at Thermopylae. Keep that in mind. King Leonidas were sent to his death by the Ephors and elders, refused reinforcements and betrayed to his death by one of his "equals".

Even if the Amarrian Empire could trace it's origins back to these men of ancient times, it is nothing to brag about, it is only proof of how deep corruption and treachery runs in your blood.

Sulla,

you do not have to be Amarrian to be moved by respect for heroes of the ancient past. While many of my kinsmen prefer to rattle their weapons and beat the drums of war rather than reflect upon the possible peaceful solutions, there are some of us, as I can see there are amongst you, whose hatred does not run so deep that it has poisoned our mind.

The spartans maintained a populace of slaves that outnumbered them many times over, and to stay in control of the Messenians they constantly terrorized them. The state maintained a constant state of war with itself and young men assassinated outstanding helots as part of their training. But there were some who tried to reform, to free slaves and redistribute land, like Agis and Cleomenes, men who understood that the continued enslavement of a whole people would lead to Sparta's downfall.

I see in you one of these great men, if not a liberator then at least a brave and noble commander. If the day come when we must face each other on the field of battle, it will be a day of sorrow, and know this, I will stand down and give you a honorable retreat when the battle is done.

The helots fought and died at the sides of their masters at Thermopylae. I can not help but think it folly to fight for continued apartheid.
