Greetings, MD Gurus
Can someone please explain to me what seems to be about a 50% increase in Cynabal prices over the last week or so?
Thanks

It's that dumb discussion in Ship or whatever where everybody is saying Cynabal is the new HAC!

Every wannabe pirate out there is now buying cynabals, the only problem is that they're about two to three months too late.
Next up to spike, Machariels.

A while back (start of Dominion? Not sure) there was a bug that resulted in Cynabal BPOs dropping instead of BPCs. People produced an asston of them as a result, and prices dropped because of the huge supply.
This might be a sign that the market is finally back to normal. Or it could be a manipulation, or a bunch of people buying all the cynabals they can find. Or something.

I can confirm that a Cynabal BPO that I know of was removed from the game last week. It was being used to churn out BPCs non-stop...

BPC drop rate was increased with dominion so we saw a jump in supply of gilas/cynabals etc. But since everyone and their dogs starting to fly cynabals for casual pvp the demand is starting to overwhelm the supply.

Hmmm i dont really believe that. How can ccp sit by and let something like that happend? It should atleast end in a ban and removal of isk. No, dont believe it.

Why would they ban a player for making use of a BPO they got legitimately from the game? Removal of isk? Possibly... removal of BPO? Definitely. I know for a fact that at least a couple of these BPO's do/did exist though.

Not reporting something so "unusual" is otherwise known as exploiting. Not very complicated: No faction ship BPO's should exist. And, in case you ask, I've petitioned myself whenever something extremely fortuitous like this has happened to me. Of course I'm so well loved that I don't think I could survive the alternate process.

Current war in the north is resulting in epic amounts of cynabal explosions. Given the relative lack of cynabal deaths previously, demand for people reshipping is rather extreme which is driving prices through the roof.
Nothing more to it.
References: 4 killed, 1 lost so far this week on MM KB 15 killed, 1 lost last week on MM KB
Etc.
A sudden demand of 20+ of these ships (plus "usual" week to week purchases) will cause a price spike. Faction ships aren't supplied in the thousands like t1/t2.

Lots of guys flying cynabals in pure blind on both sides, lots of cynabals getting popped, lots of cynabals needing to be replaced rapidly.
I think that explains everything personally

Last time I checked the only way something is an 'exploit' is if the GM's declare it one and players continue to do it. Or if players are taking advantage of a broken game mechanic deliberately.
As to your argument: How do we know they didn't petition it? Having experienced the petition responses from GM's first hand I wouldn't put it past a gm to just go 'yep, it's a BPO' and leave it at that. Then like 4 months later CCP goes "oh ****... that's not supposed to be a bpo"? It's now the player's fault that they were using a bpo that was given to them legitimately by the game? Regardless of the fact that it's CCP's fault for putting it in in the first place?
Naw, I don't see banning the players as a real option here. Reversing the isk, sure... yanking the bpo and any copies they can trace back to it? Sure... but banning players for using a bpo they got legitimately? Naw.

Use this interpretation at your own risk. This is not my opinion. It is historical fact. CCP can, and has, decided that something is an exploit post facto. It is expressly written as such in the TOS/EULA. Play soap box lawyer if you wish, there's alot of people no longer playing Eve who has done the same exact thing. PS: You'll note that I implied that bans are unlikely unless you happen to be a "problem child". Then they are even more likely. Again, historical facts, not guesses.

Either way I doubt anyone will get banned for it unless, as you mention, they're frequent members of the 'abusing da game' crowd.

So how do you call plex dropping faction BPO when such BPO should never have existed? Game working as intended? Not broken? That was game mechanics flaw, people who got it knew it and exploited it at their own risk.

I lost a Cynabal yesterday in the Pure Blind fighting and was surprised by the replacement cost.
Demand has increased a ton, supply hasn't changed, prices spike.
And people are finally figuring out that compared to the Vagabond it's faster, tanks better, and deals more DPS. It's still a bargain.

The BPOs did exist and were unfortunately abused. To my knowledge the GMs cleaned this up weeks ago, and bans did not result since some of the BPO holders were continuing to discuss what happened on the forums on in-game. A little digging should reveal the relevant threads.

What I also find interesting is that the price of Vagabonds went up only 10% in the last week. So we now have a situation where a Cynabal costs almost twice as much as a Vaga (115 vs. 200 Mil ISK); and I consider the two ships to be very similar in capability.

I wanna play lawyer
A "glitch" happens after an update and you get a cynabal bpo instead of bpc. You legitimately acquired it. So now u go to milk that thing like there is no tomorrow. You got it legitimately then the isk u make with it is legitimate, no? Personally i dont see were some ppl are getting off on advocating ppl's isk to be taken away that they legitimately made by the in-game mechanics; for all I know it could be some easter egg the dev's put in then forgot to put into patch notes or what not.
Taking away players isk... maybe we need to also start doing something about those pirates ganking those poor lone miners in low/null sec. Oh and insurance fraud! how they are cheating the system.

I can confirm that one of our members received one of these BPOs in an escalation of a Cosmic anomoly. when he got it we were unsure as to wether it was legit because of its rarity. When we attempted to look into the situation we saw that a Cynabal BPO was introduced into the BPO pool in 2006 but no one confirmed ever getting one. Our pilot made copies and gave some to our corporation and some were produced to market. We attempted to confirm that this was legit without any confirmation one way or the other, and when I went to the lueprints discussion channel I was informed that I was a Liar and it was impossible to get one. At this time the guy who got the BPO has stated that he was banned without being notified as to why. He belives it wa sbecause of the BPO and is attempting to regain his character but there has been no word as of yet concerning this issue.

This link should stop the discussion on topic "Cynabal BPO; truth or no?". As we can see from the dev response, cynabal BPOs actually appeared in game some time ago.

First of all, your friend shouldn't get banned because CCP screwed up plexes.
And second, why the hell make copies? I would build from that BPO 24/7!

The only true CYA that is effective, in the eyes of the GMs, is a petition. Nothing else is as effective or is the undeniably correct action. Everything else is lesser and not as effective. In fact, some of you know that and that's why the petition route is not taken. "See, we tried to ask someone?" "Your petition menu broken?" "Well, ummm..." </kickban> Conventional wisdom suggests that it is easier to ask forgiveness than it is permission. This quote, following, is how forgiveness is asked of the GMs in Eve: Originally by: Hawkcrest He belives it wa sbecause of the BPO and is attempting to regain his character but there has been no word as of yet concerning this issue.
It is far easier to ignore someone you've already banned then it is to have to listen to all the whining about the isk you took from them and ships you took from all their customers. Heck, it is also easier to just ban the person instead of doing all that too. Now, that being said, I truly have tons of sympathy for your mate. It probably was a "Oh wow" moment followed by "CooOOOOooooL". But, well, your mate stuck his head into it once he started making bpc's. He could've made a few ships off of it and probably just gotten a smack on the wrist. But the bpc's, that was OTT and everyone knows that. Especially him, your mate. What probably makes this a truly sucky moment is that I can readily see a corpie saying, "Hey, make me a bpc. I'll pay you for it." And the corpie is happy with his bought for bpc's (unlikely they were deleted) and your mate is just s.o.l..

All of the guys who had bpo knew that it is "use situation asap" and "print isk before ccp correct it" and "i hope i get out clean from this". And they knew from day 1 that ccp knew about that but god knows why it took them that long to fix it.
Why do you think that that small patch came just 1-2 days after big patch.
No sympathies for bpo owners. I hope they all get negative isk in their wallets.
p.s. it wasn't only the cynabal.

I remember one specific instance: Back when items were accidentally dropping into other people's/corporation hangars (yeah, it was happening back when) I found a BPO that I know (to this day) was not mine. I petitioned myself saying I did not buy it, that it must belong to someone else. That I was putting it into a lab to ME research while awaiting response/corrective measure. GM firmly told me it was mine. I responded with "You sure?!?" He said, "You making an issue of this little thing I can crush?" "No sir, yes sir, I'm sorry sir" I'll readily admit that I am, at times, pugnacious and cranky when discussing/dealing with Moderators and Developers. I never, ever, will say anything bad about the GM's. I will never lose respect for them. They have the crappiest job in Eve. The most underloved guys who have, to my every experience, done the best job that they can even though their hands are very well tied. And I will tell everyone, fear anything that brings you into the smallest conflict with the GMs. You may survive forum rebellion. You may survive flaming/trolling a Dev. Gm's are a losing proposition every time. Without fail.
